This was back when the Wayans brothers actually had control of In Living Color and it was actually funny these episodes were better than SNL and Mad TV
Still comedy gold all these years later. Damon and David were struggling to keep a straight face the whole time. The coolest part is that Men On Football got a higher rating than the Super Bowl halftime show that year.
It's actually what caused the Super Bowl halftime shows to start hiring big time talent and started putting real money into it, first up Michael Jackson the very next year lol.
31 years later and this is just as hilarious as it was in 1992. If they played this on TV today the world go bonkers!!! In Living Color should go down in history as 1 of the best shows of all time!!! A timeless masterpiece!!!
Jesus it's 30 years later and I'm still crying in laughter at these two!! There will never be another show like In Living Color. This show would be vilified today.
funny enough, we almost got that super bowl. super bowl 2 was packers/raiders. raiders beat the oilers in the afl championship game. never came any closer to happening (since by the time the packers made it back to the super bowl, oilers stunk, moved to tennessee and were about to become the titans).
As a gay man, I find this HILARIOUS! We appreciate it because it's so well done and not done to be hateful. They obviously know some gay guys, because this is just too spot on :)
You're a good sport and I like you already. They're not mocking gay men. They're making fun of gay stereotypes which is totally fine and is called comedy.
This was aired during the Super Bowl 26 halftime in 1992. The competition from FOX for the halftime audience prompted the NFL to get Michael Jackson for the halftime show in 1993.
I remember this skit and this show. The skit was played at halftime of the Skins and Bills Super Bowl game. Hilarious. No way could they do this now, but it was so funny!
@@GeronFletcher crazy thing is the Super Bowl came on at like 3:30 p.m. on the West Coast so they're running this during the daytime while a bunch of kids were watching it LOL
This wasn't the Super Bowl halftime show, which was airing on CBS. The Super Bowl halftime was "A tribute to Winter" with Gloria Estefan, etc. In Living Color aired a live episode on FOX and pulled all of CBS viewers away. The Men On Football skit was the final skit of the episode. There was a "Countdown Timer" in the corner when it was live.
@@RichV20 this skit was the beginning of the end because the station began to take more control of what was put on television and Keenan began to lose the control he had
I’m gay and not offended in the least by skits like these. This is true comedic gold! I grew up when this was on tv and miss the days when we didn’t get vilified for poking fun at stereotypes! That tiny football hat, I can’t 😂 “DE-LI-CIOUS l, I’m through” 😂
This scene will forever be a classic. The shade thrown about the football players the way they laughed at each other’s jokes. The blue ball being pulled from between his legs. The screams and running in circles Blaine: “Dont get mad twan...,Is that all you?” 😂😂😂
@Pedro Sepulveda You Trump followers are always complaining that "all comedians do these days is make fun of Trump". Yet, here's a skit about gay guys, and gay people are laughing at it. Are they insulted ? No. Do they spam the comments with complaints ? No. It's harmless fun. But when people joke about Trump, you and the rest of the cult piss and moan. You could learn a lot from gay people.
@Pedro Sepulveda As for "if it was the opposite" - who the hell knows what you're talking about. If the characters were straight ? White ? Female ? Lesbians ? Who cares ? It's a joke. Laugh or watch something else - there's about 50 channels where you can see your Dear Leader doing what he does best - making a fool of himself. Or are you trying to emulate him, here ?
My son fell down the stairs to my basement 4 weeks ago today & took him off life support at 4:35 & passed away at 4:43 AM on 12/21/2019, 8 minutes later he passed away. Thank you so much for showing these videos. Laughter does heal the soul. Wish they would do a reunion show. Thank you for putting laughter back in my heart.
I know your pain.lost a child at 4yrs from cancer..the feeling of helplessness, the what if's or the why didn't i do this or notice that nearly killed me.it doesn't get better but it does get easier.i know he is with God,that's what gets me thru it.yes,,i questioned, pleaded, begged, got angry, screamed at God but in the end i know i will see him again
+Brandon nonyadamnbidness, I recall that it was an amazing episode, and everyone had to be sure to watch it. We were even yelling outside to nearby neighbors in our condos with whom we exchanged bbq that night,"It's on! Turn the channel!" My family is Black, so we kept checking, while the neighbors were more concerned with football. Fun memory!
This episode is the reason why the NFL decided to up the ante on their SB halftime shows. The following year, their act was Michael Jackson. Anything to keep all eyes locked on the entire broadcast
@@allanbard6048 Sam was one of my favorite comics, and this show was one of my favorite show. Im sure today it would be on some snowflakes cancel culture list.
@@joannp5806 don’t forget that Disney purchased this show with its acquisition of 20th Century Fox 5 years ago and renamed it 20th Century Studios while likely placing this series in its Disney vault right next to Song Of The South
As a now 52 year old black man who then was on the DL and closeted: when I got with my gay friends, we let our hair (hypothetically speaking) down, and that’s how we talked back then amongst each other! That sketch nailed it! So when it aired we laughed our asses off then! And still today! Thanks for bringing us main stream!!
In Living Color Hi-Jacked the Super Bowl half time. What a brilliant idea! They actually had a countdown clock so viewers would know when the game was back on. But for the entire halftime--they brought it. So good.
Fun fact, this was the Super Bowl killer. When this aired it was done doing the Super Bowl halftime show and everyone tuned into In Living Colors. It's funny how after this the studios started to restrict the show's creators and 2-years later in Living Colors was off the air. I'm just saying!
They were way ahead of their time with this show...to still find myself in tears 30 years later..."why do they stop a play when there's too many men on the field, to me that's party time" LOL...I am in stitches!
DJaySplitSecond that’s one of the things that made it more laughable. The same thing happened on the Carol Burnett show ,always laughing out of character. Especially Harvey Kormen
This was the best half time show ever! I was in the Navy on shore duty during this superbowl. I was on watch during the game. Myself and the other watchstander had a tiny TV that we used to watch the Superbowl. (Yep, I know, you can't do that on watch but we did). Fox had advertised that there would be an "In Living Color" Half time show. So at half time we swapped to Fox. Once again... The Best Half Time Show ever! Too Bad other channels don't do the same nowdays! Sluggo
This show had amazingly hilarious routines and comedians and actors. Everyone of them was great. Of course I think my favorite was Damon Wayans, Kelly Coffield, Jim Carry, and David Allen Grier, Keenan Ivory Wayans was also extremely talented, he came up w this concept!!
I miss In Living Color, it was the funniest show on tv and they got away with things that we can't today. I would laugh so hard that my asthma would always act up after the show, but it was worth it! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
One of the best things about these skits were when one guy would go too far and the other would break character and laugh. I miss the 80s when we could actually laugh. Today this skit would be in court room litigation for a decade.
@petercox9 Yeah, carl lewis wanted to sue them. If he was comfortable with who he is, he would have just let it slide. They did, however, continue the characters, so that does say something about the differences in the social climates between then and now.
Then-NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue was pissed the next day when the ratings came through the fax. "Winter Magic" (the real Super Bowl XXVI halftime show) immediately became a bad memory, Michael Jackson was brought in the following year, and the rest they say is history.
As funny as this was, sadly, this is where the wheels fell off for In Living Color. Fox got corporate and drove off the Wayans. Once the Wayans were gone, the show was doomed.
Bryan Mathews ...no the show was actually doomed bc of inside fighting among its cast members...i saw an interview with one of the cast members cant remember his name now were he said their was infighting among cast bc they felt Keenan Wayons was using his family members in way to many of the skits which caused the shows demise...Tommy Davidson was doing the interview...Fox had nothing to do with show called driving them off...why wouldn't they want a top rated program to continue?
James Vickers and you believe a guy who was entering rehab around the time that the Wayans walked off? Fox was trying to take full control over a masterpiece that Keenan created like just like the powers that be always do especially to successful blacks. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. That whole family was talented and Keenan found a way to use of ALL the cast members including his brothers and sister if you go back and actually look at the episodes.
@petercox9 mad tv and snl air on Saturday in late night. In living color aired in weekday primetime. Differnt FCC rules. Kennan knows that. He has a reputation for being difficult to work with.
According to Keenan Ivory Wayans the execs wanted to filter his writing skills/ and the things were being said verbally on the show. He said, basically he would leave HIS show prior to allowing anyone or anything to filter his beliefs or passion.
"Jo Namath is married hello!" "But so is Richard Gear. You should have seen that gerbal in a wedding dress!" 😂😂😂😂 Still hilarious after all these years.
Y'all just be saying shit. Both Richard Gere and Carl Lewis threatened to sue the show and Fox for this. The network even publicly apologized to Carl Lewis.
As a child I learned tons about life watching these fools... they made it possible to explore each persons differences and at the end everybody had fun and laughed about it
