I was there also. What a great time we had in Barcelona! It was good to see a home victory (our British golden era at 1500m had ended). Cacho was a fine athlete. Very smart in tactical races but also recorded some fast times
A brilliant win in front of an adoring home crowd. Proving it was no fluke, he ran a great race to get Silver behind Morceli in the ‘96 final at Atlanta.
The big and fatal mistake that Noureddine Morceli made was to give in to the slow pace of the race which allows any runner to win and the timing of the race proves that it is a women's final and not a men's. Except for fermin cacho, the third and second runners do not have a level before and after the Barcelona Olympics.
But why cacho. Not didnt win against morsseli. Outside of spain. Normaly control anti dopage in all competitions. Fir example in.mexico 1986 maradone played like horse . He was controled ...but. Player of spain was controled positif againsg algeria. Because maradona visiteed israeil in 1985

@@robertbrowne4049 he had no tactics the kinians obstract and entrapt the way to morsly and leave the spanish win because they had not the finish speed i remeber because i was there
Tactics had nothing to do with Morceli losing If he felt like a million dollars he would have paced the two laps and slowly pulled away in lap 3 I think the dude was just on a bad day
I've seen a few other races to see how top 1500m racers deal with a slow pace They will play around for 2 laps but usually a sub 55 second lap 3 is the key, it eliminates the sit and kick strategy
The fantastic British commentator, David Coleman, who didn't care what nationality a winner was, he always made it sound special to a British audience. Arguably one of the greatest sports commentators of all time. Covered Football back in the 1950s and so many other sports for 40 years.
El ritmo lento de tres vueltas, favoreció totalmente a Cacho, por ser un rematador excelso: ultima vuelta en 52 segundos, extraordinario; aunque el tiempo (3'42") fue mediocre.
David Coleman states that the winning time was slow,,,,but you know what!!! ,3:40'1 is,,,,,I would have loved to have run under 4 minutes for ,1500m,😤😭👍💥🙏🏼💦💨😤💫🔥🌟 3:40 is half the world record for the 3000m !!!!!!!!!!!! Back to back imagine this for training session_ ,2x1500m (3:40) 10 seconds recovery,,, or NO RECOVERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That terminology "you couldn't live at this pace" is sooooooo true under these circumstances@@@
50'2; LAST LAP!!!!((REALLY,???? ) Unstoppable,,, I know of only 1',guy running under 50 seconds in a 1500m Jim Ryan in Dusseldorf (Germany) 1967? CACHO,S LAST LAP To this day 30 years later HOLDS UP WELL!!!!!!!!!
