Full highlights as the United States beat Lithuania 99-94 in the Men's Preliminary Round Group A match from the Basketball Arena during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Basketball made its appearance at the Olympic Games in 1904 in St Louis as a demonstration sport, as the competition was held between only American teams and counted as an event of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU of the USA) Championships.
At the Games in 1936 in Berlin, basketball joined the Olympic programme, where it has remained to this day. Women's basketball debuted at the 1976 Games in Montreal.

big countries like usa/france/germany/russia/brazil/spain et cetera should be broken down based on population/wealth so we can actually see real games. and don't give me china/india arguments, especially india because they are so broke. china dominates in many sports. imagine these basketball games, they would be great: Lithuania vs Long Island national team (about 10 million pop) Croatia vs Los Angeles County national team (about 10 million pop) Serbia vs Illinois national team (about 12 million pop)

5rocklobsters i'm saying do this for all sports... and no... just no, tiny nations don't do just fine in soccer, that is the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard. soccer is dominated by big countries and some small countries work there way in once in a while by over achieving (just like other sports). how many world cups has germany, france, england, spain, brazil, argentina, and italy won compared to every single country with 3 million people? (there are dozens of countries those size) (: can you even name one small country that won it all? there is only one!

I'm from USA. USA vs Lietuva is one of the greatest international rivals. The 2000 match was one of legend this game and the 2010 USA vs Lietuva match are also good. I can't wait for USA to meet Lietuva again in 2014. The clash of two great basketball nations.

Let me keep this one hot. I just love this game the US had a good team which is Lithuanian playing against them but they did not look worried or scared it looked at flustrated because the calls are question will doesn't matter that it's in another country ticky-tack fouls Phantom travel calls because you reaching you assumed they foul I watch the whole game and I repeat the USA didn't look worried looking flushed rated from all them bad a** calls and then they have to get used to the call a foreign rules

Not skilful, the word more appropriate is more athletic. US has led almost all competitions in assists for last 10 years. I think they only tied with spain at 17 per game in 2008 or something like that. Lithuania got beat by almost everyone in this tourney which is a big disappointment to all the fans.You got the wrong end of the stick here mate.The coach was fired after this atrocity. We have a new one and some new up and coming starts.But yeah they are just better athletes with higher stamina.

Well we are obviously the best at basketball. We've been the best at basketball since 1936.... that's kinda a given. But lately we have been sacrificing teamwork for individual performance and it shows. We have also sacrificed big men in the NBA. This you need to be aware of. Cause honestly beating spain by like 7 points is shameful considering we have a team of Lebron, Kobe, Carmelo and Durant. It shouldn't even be close

USA is still better. Not trying to devalue team here, but USA is all around far better. USA :can: play isolated because of their extreme talent, but can also pass extremely well if you look at their games. Lithuanians puts a decent amount of focus on basketball, and Lithuanians are generally large, which leads to a decent team. Props to Lithuania and USA.
