I got to play David Reed in the Quarter-Finals of the Richmond City open hosted by the RTA (LINK). This is an epic tennis match between a really good NTRP 5.5/USTA 5.5 ( UTR 11-12.5) vs an NTRP 5.0/USTA 5.0 (UTR 10-11). This is the first set of our tennis match. I love playing against NTRP 5.5s because it for sure helps me raise my level when playing a tennis match

Dill I really think you’re onto something with this style of video. I’ve been paying close attention to what successful RU-vidrs are doing. I’m sure you’ve heard of the Tennis Brothers channel, I like their content a lot. I feel like your video intro, a quick 30-40 second video montage telling a brief story/context, then commentated sets or highlights. I’m a fan of Karue Sell from My Tennis HQ, his commentated sets too. I’ve seen bits and pieces of like 4-5 of your videos over the past year or two, but this one really caught me off guard. Loved every element! For what it’s worth that’s my feedback. And the quality of play is always good, we’re probably similar in level. Love watching 5.0-5.5 matches online. Thanks man, have a great day!

You played a great match tactically. Good patience and commitment to the pattern. I’m about the same size as your opponent and similar level, 5.0+, and let me tell you a decent slice serve that carves into my body can be really frustrating! I think you could get a lot of easy points or short returns by using his length against him. Just an idea

What’s the best advise on improving backhand, as a short girl I have hard time returning backhand serve, mainly when the ball kicks up, pretty much any balls that kicks up to my backhand is either missed or balls go straight into the net, if I’m lucky enough i somehow end up lobbing it to the baseline.

Wow, you've come a long way in this set! You won this with some great returning and mental toughness (great consistency on long rallies) but if you want to really get a leg up on a 5.5 player you need to rework the nice kick you have into a nasty slice. Reed's serve (esp the short slicer on deuce court) gives him easier points than you get off your serve so you have to equalize with great returns (and you had it in this set), but over the long haul stronger (well placed) serves make it easier to win sets.The kick you have is great but at 5+ its easier to kill if the speed is not there (which can happen sometimes). Apart from that maybe work on flatter short forehands, and hitting down on high forehands when inside the court for easier put-aways. Again game looks great!
@pilroone
@pilroone 2 года назад
You played great. Anyway, my advice for next matches against this opponent will be throwing more balls to his backhand, serves in the deuce side above all. Stand closer to the divline will help. And pay attention to his attacks over your backhand, in this case you better go crosscourt on his poach.

Very nice tennis but on the down the line ground stroke you hit, time stamp 6:30, that David didn't call but you saw out, you should have said it was out. You had the "down the line" view and the best angle and even though it wasn't your call you should have spoken up. Everyone can always win at displaying great sportsmanship and really, which matters most, winning or integrity?
@DillPlays
@DillPlays Год назад
Part of competitive tennis is making good line calls. I respect your opinion. But in a sanctioned tournament. If my opponent can’t make lines calls it’s not up to me to correct them. It’s easier at the professional level where they have judges everywhere.
@DillPlays
@DillPlays Год назад
I appreciate your honesty in your comment
@michaelevans3942
@michaelevans3942 Год назад
@@DillPlays At the professional level you let the linesmen or chair or now days shotspot make the calls. So at the professional level you would not say anything. Where it matters is when players are calling their own lines and yes, I've been in sanctioned tournaments where I have spoken up in a very similar situation and it was in a 3rd set tie-breaker and it cost me the match. I would have felt terrible if I won the match but wasn't honest. All that said I agree that you didn't do anything wrong, its just you can "play" at a higher level if you so choose.
@americantruth9001

Dill's swing is always on time but never early. Reed's is early most of the time which is a huge advantage. Dill's legs are stronger so that is where he will win. Reed's legs gave out halfway through the match which cost him the win. Just watch and count every proper knee bend point vs straight legged swing points lost. Reed has slightly better skills but Dills physical ability produced the win.

@@DillPlays for sure. you have consistency and the forehand is starting to have some attack that is noticeable, but just need the attack more, kinda like your friend Jacob. I think a lot went into that. 1. Traveling to a new place 2. I definitely went out the night before Lolol 3. Those hard courts are the fastest court I’ve ever played on 4. When ever I have played people “better than me” I’ve always played sooooo well. I do think my level is higher than mark ( lol saying that giving the 0-2 record) but he FOR SURE raised his level and played some fantastic tennis. At 6:33 you miss a forehand down the line that you say you are pretty sure was out but your opponent doesn’t call it out so you take the point. You then give the erroneous advice that you should say nothing and take the point even though you know your shot was out. According to the USTAs CODE of unwritten rules you should call your own shot out if your opponent fails to do so. I know with today’s average mind set this seems to be an absurd notion. But it originates in the idea that tennis is a gentleman’s game played by fair minded individuals. Golf has similar rules. I just think this should be pointed out because some of your viewers may be young and impressionable and they should be told what is actually expected of them in this situation and not just the modern cutthroat way of doing things on a tennis court.
@DillPlays
@DillPlays 2 года назад
If your opponent misses a call it’s your point. That’s how it works.
@Dasato123
@Dasato123 2 года назад
That’s how it works in your mind and I understand that yours is the more common mind set in today’s world. I just thought that it needed to be pointed out that in the mind of the creators of this game something greater in terms of character and honor was being strived for. Did you know that your opponent can request a opinion on a ball you hit as to if was out or in. Obviously the world was a different place when these Codes of conduct were thought up. We get the world we deserve.
@atlantahawks98
@atlantahawks98 2 года назад
i’m a 5.0- player and my understanding of the etiquette is that if you’re 100% sure your ball was out you call it but if not you let the opponent call it. an example being if you hit a drop shot and your opponent is sprinting to it and doesn’t have a great view. if you clearly see it out and your opponent can’t see it you just say hey that was out. but if you THINK it was out but aren’t 100% sure it’s up to the opponent to call it out. there have been countless times where myself or opponents have called our own shots out if the opponent doesn’t have a good view but also countless times where the opponent has a good view and plays it. there’s a big difference between knowing and thinking if something is out.
