So thats my #1 Summer Style essential: the short sleeve button down. Like I said, my favorite is the Robert Graham Carbone. Just open the top few buttons and cuff the sleeves and you’re good to go.
I also recently picked up a short sleeve button down from Vuori--it has a subtle pattern and this has a cool laid back California vibe to it.
My #2 most crucial Summer Style essential: sunglasses, baby. For me, sunglasses are just essential year round because I have these sensitive baby-blues, but I know some of you guys have tough eyes that can handle staring at the sun for hours on end. Still, summer is a great moment to bust out a fresh pair of shades.
Here, I’ve paired up these MessyWeekend sunglasses with the Robert Graham Carbone Shirt. I love the light frames---pair that with the unique morracan tile inspired design of the shirt, and you have a fun, colorful outfit.
That’s one thing to keep in mind---summer is when you get to add tons of color into your wardrobe, so take advantage of it.
In this second outfit, I’ve got the Blenders Eyewear hexagram glasses and I’ve paired that with the Vuori short sleeve for the ultimate Californian duo.
The third most important thing to get for summer is a boss pair of shorts. I’ll admit, I was never really into shorts until a few years ago when I moved to the east coast. With how humid it gets, I really do see shorts as a necessity.
Here I’m wearing the Robert Graham Daywalt short, which is perfect for chilling by the pool. It’s made with performance fabric and it’s sort of a short/trunk hybrid. You can wear them out as a pair of shorts and they’ll look great, or you can take them to the beach.
Their ideal spot however is a poolside bar. But really, who’s ideal spot isn’t a poolside bar?
Micheladas.
I personally like to keep my shorts more neutral---either navy, khaki, a dark charcoal like with the Daywalt shorts. My preference is toward a more colorful shirt, so I just keep the shorts simple.
I’ve had these flower shorts from J.Crew for a few years, but the pattern limits what I can wear on top. DUER also makes some great shorts that are excellent if you go hiking, climbing, or do any sort of outdoor adventure but still want to look good, and I’ll link to those down in the description below as well.
The fourth essential is a pair of minimalist sneakers. If you’ve been keeping up with the channel, you know I’m a fan of GREATS sneakers. Their Royale sneaker in all-white is a great summer choice as you can pair it with shorts, chinos, jeans---whatever, it’s super versatile. The all white look works for spring and summer equally well, though if you want to wear these through the fall, consider getting the gum-sole version, or something like these grey GREATS. Those darker tones will blend better in your cooler-month wardrobes, but still look dope for summer.
Grab some no-show socks while you’re at it so you can show off your sexy ankles.
If showing off your sexy ankles is something you’re into then you are SICK. Just kidding. While sneakers are a safe bet for any outfit, there are a few key moments you want to rock something a little more upscale. I picked up these suede blue loafers from M.Gemi last year and I love them. They’re unlined so they’re super lightweight and you don’t need to wear socks with them. They’ve got that Italian flair that just seems to work so well during summer.
I want to say that Sandals or flip-flops are a summer essential, too, and I think they are. But I don’t own any sandals. If you know of a great sandal/ flip flop brand, let us know in the comments below
Now to talk accessories, if you wear a watch, swap out that strap for a nato. I personally like the nylon nato straps from Vario---they’re inexpensive but the striped designs are perfect for casual wear. They’re super easy to swap out so you can get a couple and coordinate them with whatever outfit you’re wearing for the day.
