Hi Everyone
This channel (Tom's Man Shed) will occasionally contain affiliate links,which means I receive a small commission on a purchase without any additional cost to you, if you buy something through my links.
Many of my reviews are on tools and stuff from Lidl who I have no association with whatsoever (other than a regular customer) and I receive no commission from them ... I buy all the items.
I will only include links to items used in the videos which will mainly be Amazon ones as that's my preferred site for buying stuff ....if the link includes any affiliate commission I will include the word "affiliated" before the link.
If you do purchase an item through my affiliate link thank you so much for your support as every little penny helps me do the reviews.
Tom
Just to confirm....the MG5 can now definitely carry up to a 35kg load on its roof rails....confirmed by a letter recently to MG5 owners from MG themselves.....these rails weigh 3.1 kg for the pair and have a max load capacity of 90kg.
A great set of roof bars suitable for loads of different cars with raised roof rails.
A full explanation with fitting them to an MG ZS EV is shown
Great price from Lidl
Link to them on Amazon (but more expensive than Lidl)

Hows the wind noise? When I had a set fitted to my old 530d and 330d they produced quite a bit of whistle or hum (after putting tape over T Slot).
@TomsManShed
@TomsManShed 3 года назад
Hi Brett...I won't be able to report on the wind noise as I bought them for my daughter's car and she won't be using them till she gets a roof box.....I would imagine that some noise will be inevitable but most will be from the roof box or the luggage on them that will be carried.....they are easy enough to remove when not needed

just removed my set after 2 years, bent a key trying to unlock them, had to come here to see how to remove them. a squirt of silicone spray released them and now for my long car journey today.

I’ have the exact car on order so I’m really pleased you showed the sunroof being opened, is the Ariel flexible for longer loads on the rails or do you swap for a stubby arial please
@TomsManShed
@TomsManShed 2 года назад
It's not extremely flexible and alot of smaller/sharkfin aerials don't work as well ...I have sold the car now (awaiting delivery of a new MK2 zs EV) so can't measure how much it flexes

Hi mate. What length are the bars. I'm looking on ebay and there are some that look the same which are 120cm.
@TomsManShed
@TomsManShed 3 года назад
Hi...I show the specs in detail at 9:38 on the vid.....also right at the beginning at 14 secs on the box it shows 120cm so they are the same ones plus in the bit where I show the Amazon pages there are identical ones with a different name with specs shown

hi tom I'm going to have to get myself a decent NVR one that supports virtual host, Hikvision is I believe the one to go for however not wishing to break the bank, But it not always clear if virtual hosting is supported in the spec i don't want to pay out any money to find like my Annke N48PBB it's not supported, I would be grateful for your view

Hi Astra (can't keep calling you Astra...what's your 1st name? :) .....btw did you know you have posted this on my roof bars vid not the hikvision one? :) I can only vouch for the Hikvision NVR as that's all I have ever had....my current one is only my second one.....the old and new one are shown in one of the vids but both have never let me down....I only had to buy the new one as the 4MP of the new Colorvues want supported in the old one. ....like I mentioned though what I would recommend is that you get one from somewhere like CCTV Empire or any other proper clued up CCTV supplier. ...They are pretty good on price anyway and even if slightly dearer than the very cheapest Ebay seller its worth it for the support. I have used their support (CCTV Empire) a few times and they have been excellent...quick replies to emails and a wealth of knowledge....would be worth a call to them for advice and a sale if they help out.

Do you know how much these weigh please? I'll be using them on an MG5 so need to calculate the total weight I'll be carrying, including the roof bars and box.
@TomsManShed
@TomsManShed 3 года назад
Hi Neil...just went into the garage to look at the box and it says their weight is 3.1kg....I wasn't sure whether this meant each or the pair so have just weighed them on the kitchen scales and it showed just under 1.5kg for one bar so call it 3kg for the pair......the total load capacity is 90kg so you have got 32kg left for your box and contents on the MG5 ...hope this helps.....have added this info to the description above for future reference of others.

@@TomsManShed Thanks so much for the swift response and weighing them - greatly appreciated. I have a test drive booked in the MG5 tomorrow. I know I already want one but driving it anyway. Car will be used for camping so will look to purchase these bars + a suitable roof box in the very near future. I just need to check what size bars I need for the 5 now! Thanks again.

How important are the end caps? Are they just aesthetic? I've bought a used pair via Amazon and one of the caps is missing. Also no instructions, which is why I came to this video.
@TomsManShed
@TomsManShed 2 года назад
Hi Malcolm...yes they are just aesthetic.....they remove so you can insert things like bike carriers ...they can be a bit loose so its worth taping them on
@ConnectCreativeDesign
@ConnectCreativeDesign 3 года назад
Did you manage to get a Lidl roof box to go with them too?
@TomsManShed
@TomsManShed 3 года назад
Hi Neil...no I bought them for my daughters Toyota ( although they are kept here in my garage) I don't actually have a use for them at present as the kids have flown the nest and my camping days are over :) ....I have seen roof boxes in Lidl and Aldi in the past though.

Thanks Tom, I went to Lidl Thursday and no stock but after seeing your video tried Poulton Lidl today and 3 left! We have your twin red zs ev in Thornton! Who did your tints by the way? We’re they expensive?

Hi David...yes have seen you about :) ... Yes I went Clev and Poulton on Thurs and the assistant at Poulton said they were missed off the order.....so the stock will have been delivered there Sat night for the Sunday start...I bet those remaing 3 go quite quick. Re the Tints...had them done on Redmarsh Industrial Estate...couldn't remember the name so have just driven there to remind myself (there's dedication eh? :) ) ....It was Blackpool Signs & Graphics...they are in the side compound near the big red Thornton Roofing sign board on the fence. Can't remember the price but they were pretty similar to others and were the nearest to me.......tel 01253 851106

If you get them done David don't forget to inform your car's insurers....mine (LV) charged me £12 extra....if you don't inform them it gives them a reason to wriggle out of any claim.

Bought these secondhand without the key… I don’t suppose you know what the key code is on your yours/your daughters? We need a picture of the M098 key before a company can make us a replacement. Thanks
