@OtherWorlds AllWorlds yes, he was wrong to take someones life based on words. The reality of the message is right or wrong. Watch what you say to people because you have no clue who youre talking to. Theyre several irrational demons out here based on the enviroment and how they were raise. Its not rather you agree with it or not. Its understanding it. Generally suburburian folk dont and wont. People like you would call him a "low iq thug" based on his appearance. But in america if that was a white booksmart kid who did that he would be labeled as having mental illness.
Interesting note: That Korean guy talking about his mom sounds like an insult in english... but in korean its a common phrase used by elders to younger folks as a plead for conscience. This is a classic case of cultural misunderstanding leading to worst case scenario
yhp99 that could very well have been the case. But everything prior to that shows him saying this to be insulting and demeaning to the young men in the store. Is it common in Korean culture to harass your paying customers?! Killing somebody in cold blood for something that they said is wrong BUT this would have eventually happened to him considering his business practices and where he decided to open up a store. If you notice in the film he was not going to give them their change back he had to ask for his change. Also they just paid for other items and were walking out it would’ve been easier to say nothing at all opposed to making a remark about someone’s mother. This had less to do with his culture and more to do with him being racist towards the men that walked in there. If these were Italian mafia man that walked in there what would’ve been his reaction? If he was to say the same thing to them they would’ve reacted the same way if not worse. He knew exactly what he was saying and what he was doing and unfortunately it cost his life and the life of the woman that was with him. A wise man once said nothing at all...
@@moveadvisor3580 youre probably right on many of your points. The guy should have kept his mouth shut. Also, definitely racist no doubt. He knew its a black neighborhood and these are not korean kids. But i think its possible for old habits to die hard and he blurted out what he would normally say to a wayward korean youth... and paid for it with his life. Also in Korean culture its not considered harassment for elders to chastise and "harass" young folks who look like trouble. Elder folks in korea are usually given this pass just cuz the culture accepts it. Whats viewed as harassment by american audience can be interpreted as chastisement by a different audience. I do think there is some of that element present in this scene
@@darianwilliams3452 Youre godamn right they dont care at all about the black community. But who does? Only black people really care about black people
yhp99 some do at least. Look throughout American history every time blacks make advancements we get held back by some type of disaster that strikes our community. Coincidence, no! Blacks need to form worldwide alliance with each other and we need to stick together because if we do not other races will always be against us!
The way he yelled out "Yeah!! Yeah!!" while shooting. He was excited by the violence. Even taunted him with "You aint gon talk shit now are you?" totally unfazed by the blood leaking from his head. He was only 17
I'm Mexican. My uncle rented this movie for me when I was a kid and said "Watch this, don't look up to your other uncle" Really eye opener. Really powerful/sad movie
remember that crazy lady killed the black woman cuz she lost her temper in her convenient store... that woman got off too! despicable.... she was korean....should have never had access to a fire arm with a temper like that....
They copied most of this film from Goodfellas & Boyz N The Hood!!!!! Goodfellas starts off in a very similar way , it's starts off with 7 stabs & 5 gunshots & then immediately goes to flashbacks to show the main character as a kid!!!! it's also got the same exact character arcs as Goodfellas does : u got the one main character that is narrating the film , one costar character that is the young crazy one the does most of the killing & then the OG that likes to see the other two younger main characters do most of the dirt 💯 they even introduce the other characters in this movie the same way as Goodfellas which is during a party using the same exact camera movements!!!! the Hughes brothers said they took all they're inspiration from that film & basically stole they're plot from Boyz N The Hood 💯
@@mattlawrence1932 that’s not copying what are you talking about that’s been around way before this move is the formula of the main character talking before the actual event beginning of the film menace to society is a completely different film compared to boys in the hood not copying anything all the movies you listed are different and original
I fell in love with this movie instantly! If you grew up in the hood you know that there was a certain authenticity about this movie that definitely showed you that this is really what street life was about.
🇯🇵🏯🍚🍶. His mother was on crack. And his father was death. Think about it. Because it is very strange that they don't show it in the movie. Because maddog didn't knew the japanees in the store. Think further my friend.

One of the most classic scenes ever. I remember watching this in the theater when it first came out. The audience went crazy on this scene. Set the tone for the whole movie.
The irony. It’s like a white audience going wild when a black person is being hung from a tree. As an Asian, all I’m getting is racism of blacks against Asians.
I worked at a movie theatre when this movie came out and this elderly couple came to the box office and asked for a refund. They had literally just watched this opening scene and thought they were seeing "Dennis the Menace Part 2" LOLOL. We of course refunded them but we all had a good chuckle.
PeanutButterXrunch ._. Smh if the kids were just respectful and didn’t drink the beer inside then none would happen. The fact he shot up the place reinforces the stereotype. It’s sad

Just edgy kids with no sense of what the real world is like. Only the weakest, most pathetic mf would take a life over hurt feelings. Pointing a gun and clicking a trigger ain't brave, it's how a pu$$y deals with his problems. Real G's don't be sensitive, and if they really gotta make a point they lay down a beating with they're bare hands.
They did not deserve to be killed like that, of course. But hey, if you keep playing with rabid dog, you are gonna get bite, no matter what. Mentioning black fool's mother was unnecessary.
As a Latino, it's horrible when white people look down on you, stare at you like you some kinda criminal. I've been harassed by police quite a few times. You get tired of it. I've never done anything like beating people up or anything, but I've known people who decided they had enough and confronted those who racially stereotyped them. You can't accuse someone of something they've never done, and when they fight back "they're right all along to assume"? Respectfully, gtfo
@Michael D I respectfully disagree. You just can't treat everyone the same just because of your own vision of them. By that logic, I should carry a gun or a knife or whatever ready to defend myself whenever I get into a majority white zone out of fear of them beating me up or trying to kill me because my skin is a different color
Which btw, I don't, obviously. But what I actually do is never hanging around in the white neighborhoods, specially at night, because they actually think you're a criminal and call the police. And you know what happens when white police officers pull up. Not saying they beat you up every time, but let's say they're not really respectful or professional either
Me at 9: Clueless and taken by action. Love it!!! Me at 16: O dog is a beast! Kaydeen a punk Me at 28: Why can't o dog control his emotions and use logic? Does he Have concern about his future? Think about how precious life is and understand how God created us all? Man my views have changed on this scene.
Yeah it took you WAY too long to realize this isn't the proper response. And you needed religion to do it. I've been an Atheist all my life and if you showed me this at 8 I would say the robbery and killing was wrong.
@@SunlightGwyn I havent seen this scene since 17 because I changed my path and gave that way up. This movie never gets the credit it deserves. It really puts into perspective how O-Dog is a psychopath, and not everyone in the hood is like him. Whether nature or nurture comes into play, he is pretty crazed. I don't even think most people get that from the film, but it goes to show how all problems are ignored in the hood. He isn't romanticized for being a psychopath either, he is just seen as a "bad" black guy, and that is essentially how society sees men like him. Sadly though, his behavior is how many people see all black men. While Ted Bundy is humanized, black men never get that treatment. He gets away with insane shit living in the hood because no one cares, and honestly this is why living in the hood is dangerous. As we see, his behavior influences people with morals and values, and they end up evaluating their behavior. It isn't just the poverty you have to deal with living in the hood. This movie was always sad to me, an eye open of what some people go through. I always saw it as one of the saddest movies out there. It's bleak, and in your face.
thats not how society sees all black men . but if you sag pants with dreads and carry yourself like him, your gonna get some funny looks.. rightfully so eh?
“Went into the store just to get a beer. Came out an accessory to murder and armed robbery. It was funny like that in the 'hood sometimes. But you never knew what was gonna happen or when. After that, I knew it was gonna be a long summer.„ ~ Caine elaborates about the incident.
@@Jay-jq6bl they didn't finger print him because he was still a minor so they let him off with a warning... Caine didn't touch anything but the bottle and the counter so they couldn't prove he did anything
O-Dog would have been finger printed even though the judge let him off with a warning. I can’t explain why the police didn’t find his prints on the register.
One of the first movie a watched as a kid that got me in to the hiphop movement when the rest of my pals were listening to indie music. STRAIGHT OUT CLASSIC 💯🔥🔥🔥❤️
It seems like a brutal scene but they were just buying beer. The shop owners were the instigators. They assumed they were thieves, told them to hurry up and get out, tried to short change Cain then dissed O-Dog's momma. Shit happened.
It's 2023 and I still get followed around the store. I'm there for the same reason as everyone else. I'm there to pay with the same money we all use, but for some reason that ain enough. It's exhausting.
Or said it in Korean. If you speak more than one language....GO TO YOUR BACK UP.English not even your main language...Now if O-Dog understood Korean...THAT would've been crazy.
The impact of the single mother household: A boy is raised by a single mother with no male role model and no one to teach him discipline. The boy then inherits the emotional traits of the mother, making him an irrational loose cannon. The boy worships his single mother because it's the only parental figure he knows,(hence the sensitivity over having her mentioned) regardless of whether or not she put her boy in this situation.
@@dantelan-i-er5466 not really cuz if that was case then suburban white kids in middle class neighborhoods that are bullied in schools mostly come from 2 parent households and are very emotional to shoot up them schools as your seeing on the news every year wouldn’t do that if they have both parents but they do. This myth is foolish
@@omariorou1339 Hahaha! If you're seriously trying to ignore the impact of single motherhood in the black community, I don't know what to tell you. It's not a myth. Also, I'm not saying single motherhood is the cause of all violent crime everywhere. More often than not though, it plays a factor in a child's erratic behavior.
I’m glad that O-Dog responded to the unfair suggestion that he was a violent criminal by murdering two people and stealing from them. He really showed them that they misjudged him.

@@itachi-qb1sg they lived in the Jordan Downs Projects. MC Eiht said in a recent interview that it was Grape Street but they couldn't give actual gang names in the movie because they probably would've caught funk & problems from gangs in LA for being to specific about the gangs were doin in the movie. Like u got Grape Street killin off some Crenshaw Mafia Bloods or Piru Bloods when they got payback for harold but you tell people that who see the movie then gang members gonna end up gettin offended & start causing trouble. Cube and Cuba Gooding Jr together... Overall they are better actors . I got to go with Boyz in the Hood. That is a more realistic hood movie. Menace 2 Society is good, but its just more violent... it went on shock factor. Where Boyz in the Hood was more about the realism. That should change your mind. Unless you just like the gangsta shit and violence more in general. but for that just watch slasher films.
Lol this brings back so many memories, this store is a real place in L.A. it's on PICO & REDONDO. when I was a teen I use to go there every Friday after work to buy my 40oz...for the record, the store was owned by a Korean family and they were really cool.
