I’ve got to tell you, I watched him live and instead of having a conductor, he played lead violin and he was exuding joy the whole time and all the members of the orchestra looked so happy. It was beautiful.
Cannot imagine how many times he must have played this concerto, yet, his enthusiasm and joy he expresses for the music and toward other musicians and audience as if this was the first time, is a greatest gift. Yet, he seems so humble, and to be this great. He would rather give the ovation to the orchestra than receiving it for himself. I just love listening and watching him play. Thank you.
Agreed! Shaham and Maestro Lan Shui are a dynamic combination. I also recommend their interpretation of Butterfly Lover Concerto - I was in tears listening to it!
WOW. He played Bach's Gavotte en Rondeau as an encore at the end. The faces in the violin section tell it all. They are PRICELESS. Astounding rendition.
@@peregrinusabsoluti2302 I know. But I think they're smiling at his rendition in a good way. They're like "I wouldn't ever dare to play it that way, but he's nailing it nonetheless" xD.
Gil not only performs the music with gusto and utmost elegance, he engages the orchestra and communicates with them subliminally. He's a master of his craft. I hope to meet him in heaven someday.
This familiar piece sounds refreshing and new in Shaham's hands. This is what great artists do. They take something you think you know and they have you consider it in wholly different way. Bravo Gil!
I love Gil Shaham. He has Chafetz's accuracy, Perlman's warmth, and Paganini-like whimsical... He's a true phenom; I've seen him live four times, and every times surpassed the other. He's a national treasure!
He is simply a beautiful delight! He loves what he is doing and it shines through. He not only smiles at the fun of this music but he shows you how it’s done! Remarkable
Oh my gosh this is the most beautiful, sublime performance. I am just loving everything about it. Gil Shaham to me isn't just a violinist, he's like a magic music wizard.... Been a fan of his for a long long time.
Gil Shaham is my favorite player overall....consistently amazing interpretations on everything he plays. The top is wide and filled with wonderful artists, as is the level just below. We are blessed to have such a rich array of performers these days to choose from...especially here on youtube...where one can analyze and critique to hearts content. But the test is when someone can turn out a performance of Wieniasky concerto no.1 in live performance, and own it!! Only two I know of so far...Gil Shaham and Midori.
Fantastic!!! It is such a joy to wach the expressions of Gil Shaham and how he is taking the music serious and still humorous in the same moment. It seems to be just natural for him to play this masterpiece. Gil Shaham is a genius.
This is such a beautifully recorded, lit, edited, and produced video. My deepest respect to all of those who put this together. The conductor, the orchestra and Gil Shaham aren't just making music here, it feels like they're making a statement about life and art.
Andante enchanting. The interplay between violin / orchestra = magnificent composition by Mendelsohn. Gil Shaham shines through with his majestic playing and delightful personality. Making the world a better place again.
This particular performance of Mendelssohn‘s violin concerto is one of the best interpretations I’ve heard so far. Shaham and Singapore Symphony Orchestra are a dynamite combination.
BRAVO !!! Saludos desde España.
Thank-you very much to the excellent performance of this genius fiddler from effulgent Tokyo in profound Japan 🍎 His performance penetrates God,s territory .
...such an amazing performer for classical music. Fun is fun! As an orchestral musician nothing compares to an animated soloist. He's controlling the tempo with the conductor every time.
If you close your eyes and hear him play. It sounds as if he has a 10m long bow. Every note is so well connected... The only pity here is that some parts are a little too fast.
BRAVO!!! Every note was played mechanically correct with musical calculation. It’s nice to see a human robot with programmed feeling. A lot of 1st position, open strings, harmonics? Basic correct playing.1st mvt. good. 2nd mvt. was okay. 3rd mvt. was great, the best perfect performance!!! I was surprised to see him play the last note in 3rd pos. on the G str. as opposed to 1st finger on the D str. Very sterile and safe. Everything correct but not memorable. Fake feeling with no individual character.
Shaham is a favorite in Germany. He actually had a weak beginning in the Mendelssohn but the rest was pretty good. I heard him live with the San Francisco Symphony in this same concerto and it was much better than this. Sometimes he looks like he is trying to play instead of just playing. At times, he had the Bach thing sounding like an Irish reel but his intonation was truly flawless. But he is, after all, a great fiddler and musician.
It is not Shaham, but the sound engineering that is weak, at least at the outset. The recording engineer cranked up the volume of the orchestra at the expense of the violin. Either his priorities or my ears are off!
