An embroidery hoop? Glad you showed that. Didn’t know about it’s existence.

Thanks! I’m a plumber and I go thru work pants like crazy. I even buy the more expensive brands and that are double kneed but I still blow out the knees just as fast and I’m tired of spending $50+ each every couple months. I wish I would’ve asked Mom how to sew before she passed. Much love and God bless

If you're a professional making good money, don't care super much about esthetics and have little time, there still are plenty of shops out there where they will repair your jeans for you for like 10 euros or something like that.

If you don't have all of this a simple needle thread & scrap will suffice. I'm definitely going to be picking up some of this I have been sewing without all of these tools for years. Just never really a patch usually always a seam or a tiny hole.

I've only got one pair of denim pants for winter wear( I'm in tx and on the bus for transportation, the heat being a prob for 3/4 of the year, shorts are more needed than pants). My jeans are a thrift store buy that's about five years ago. When I bought them, they had minor tears, but were still warm when layered up. The 3 holes are much worse now and I was worried about having the funds to replace them ( I'm fixed income, my ssi chk barely covers the bills and I've had to resort to reuseable wipes instead of tp). I knew if I could repair my jeans, that would be the best option. I just wasn't sure about how to do that. I have a nice sewing kit, a messed up pair of Jean shorts I was going to reporpose, so on that I'm set. Don't have an embroidery hoop, but I can see I'm gonna need to get one soon. I don't have embroidery thread either ( never been able to do anything fancier than a cross stitch, but I hand sew for practical use quite well. I've altered my own clothes by hand before. It's not pretty, but functional). I'm not against going back over my stitching to reinforce it the way using embroidery thread would do. This video is a major help, and is gonna save my bacon, so thnx!

Could you just do the stitching around the exterior of the hole to keep the patch in place? Is it necessary to also secure the patch first (as you did)?

Looks so great! I have 3 pair of One Teaspoon overalls and the hole on the right knee of each has become so BIG I have to do something. I will try this on a pair. What do you think of putting a liquid type fray check or similar on the edges of the patch to avoid it fraying and becoming smaller over many washes??? Thank you for a great tutorial

I’m trying to patch my work pants. Your video helped me a lot, but I don’t know how to tie a good knot. Worn my pants for a day and the stitches are all loose, idk if it’s because of a bad knot or bad sewing. First time seeing anything.

@hannahr.6573
@hannahr.6573 Год назад
How did you secure the thread to the needle? I rewatched it a few times but it looks like you just pull one end through then put a knot in the other end but then the thread would slip out!
@ThisLittleFarmhouse
@ThisLittleFarmhouse Год назад
I knot one end of the thread and then pull the thread through the fabric, leaving the knot on the inside. Just how you would when hand stitching. Hope that helps answer your question.

Why embroidery thread instead of regular thread? Is it an aesthetic choice or a functional one?
@ThisLittleFarmhouse
@ThisLittleFarmhouse 4 года назад
The embroidery thread is thicker, stronger, and works best with denim. Also easier to demonstrate for a tutorial.

I’d love to see if you have any ideas on how I guess “reinforce” a pair of jeans in the leg/crotch area. Lol it sounds strange but the reason is because my thighs rub together when I walk so that’s where they tend to get ripped a lot on me. I’m talking huge holes. I was hoping maybe if I put a patch over that area maybe it would prevent the actual jeans from rubbing and wearing out? 🤔 just curious lol
@ThisLittleFarmhouse
@ThisLittleFarmhouse 4 года назад
Absolutely, it’s a super common wear and tear area. For reinforcements I would add a patch to the back and do a few lines of the running stitch across the whole area.
@andrewsalazar98

What about adding abrasion-resistant material like cordura or cotton-duck canvas?
@briandaaranda9735

I don't know if you still need this, but I've just repaired a pair of jeans using colored embroidery floss and darning over the areas that seem thinner (the denim looks almost white at the parts that need it). Honestly I've just sort of embraced visible mending as a way to say "yeah, they're worn and torn but that just means they have a history! They're my clothes!"
@affordableliving2756

Would be good to see a tutorial on the crotch area. That always seems to go for me. Just whether to patch the inside or outside. :) Love the jeans hate the holes.
