First band I saw ever saw live. They were on at the Mapperley Folk Club Nottingham, in the late 1960s/early 1970s and they were brilliant. I'd first heard them on a Radio Nottingham Folk show and had taped a couple of their tracks from this show, one being the Gipsy. I finally managed to get hold of both their lp releases on a single CD quite recently.
Mr Fox - Pissed over Mendle is the origin of the title, from the novel Mist Over Pendle. Saw them live at the Fernhurst pub near Ewood Park in Blackburn in about 1971. Totally blew me away, quite unlike anything else at the time. Carolanne Pegg playing the electric fiddle Dales style half way down her arm. In bright red hotpants, for goodness' sake. You didn't feel the band were too stable, which gave the night a real edge. They didn't survive much longer.
Only 638 views in over a year! My favourite Mr Fox song. Still as good as when I first heard it in 1975. There's not many other songs that raise the hairs on the back of my neck. I never got to see them live and would love to see a video of them.
