If the brothers were really these "evil monsters" and Jose and KItty were these "perfect parents" as alot of people said, why would the whole family support the brothers?! The fact that the grandmother, aunts, cousins, family friends...all defended them in court, and still do, says alot about the depravity of the parents. They all knew something sinister was going on in that family and wasn't right.
I think she loved Jośe (because he was her son), but also knew he was not innocent (because she knew him). Worth noting that in his testimony Lyle said that his father told him that the two of them would have a sexual relationship with each other because that's what their family does with father and his firstborn son and that he did the same with his father, and his father with his father and so on. So that would be this woman's husband. I don't know how much she knew about that, but I'm pretty sure she knew Jośe was fucked up and that the boys had good reason to kill their parents. Just my understanding of the situation, though.
I suspect that this interview occurred after the brothers were arrested but prior to them confessing to family members that they had committed the act. I think once they knew that the psychologist’s documents and testimony would be admitted as evidence then they told the family what was to become the defence position.
