There are also those of us (myself included) that work outside of the home for various reasons, but WISH we could stay at home with our children. Just because a mom works outside of the home doesn’t mean that’s her dream or her priority. My husband is a full-time pastor with a score of health issues, and I work outside of the home to provide my family with good health insurance. My heart’s desire is to be at home with my kids - but I sacrifice for my family BY working full-time.

I think feminism often gets warped. Ultimately it's about giving women the same chance to live their lives as they want. And that definitely means stay at home moms! I love watching you live the life that is ideal for you ❤

I was raised with the assumption that I would be focusing on career full-time, whether children came into the picture or not - which is completely contrary to my parents where my mom was a SAHM! I was very blessed to be afforded the opportunity to go to college debt-free and graduated this year at 22 years old. I am newly married, and newly pregnant, and God just really worked on my heart while I was in school about how much of a blessing it is to raise a family, carry on a legacy and pass good values on to the next generation. I went back and forth and was fully convinced that I couldn't do anything else but be a mom, but with the encouragement of my wonderful husband, I've come to the place where I realize we have TOGETHER goals for our TOGETHER life and we're both business-minded. I have two side hustles going at the moment, but am prepping for my first little one to be here in October. Who knows how many children we will be privileged to have, but all I know is, they come first, and any capacity the Lord gives me after that, I want to use to create our dream home and work in whatever business interests me at the time.

When I get leave periods from work I am SO fulfilled being a sahm, even if it’s temporary. I’m getting out for good in august and I can’t wait to keep the home permanently! For me a big part of feminism is about freedom of choice. The freedom to choose being a sahm or work or study or doing it all. I love cooking, baking, canning etc but I couldn't be a stay at home mom because I need to do other things to feel good about myself and my life. I have much more patience when I'm with my child if I make room for other parts of me as well. I think that makes me a better mother in the long run.

I love your videos and visiting with you while I do my chores at home. This is the first time I think I’ve disagreed with you about anything and I was so shocked! I think feminism can be a positive thing and true feminists encourage women to live the life they want. We should all have the opportunity to fulfill our passions. Also, I was very lucky to be raised by my stay at home dad after he got hurt and my mom had to support us. My dad is the gentlest, most nurturing man in the world and even though I missed my mom, I didn’t lack any of the love and affection. I hope we can give dads credit where it’s due - their love and presence is every bit as important!

I met my husband later in life, so we didn't have children, but I think that is just how my path went. I have furbabies, and have helped raise the children of friends. To me, the term "mom" has many meaning. I feel that for some of us, we are "mom' in not so traditional ways. It's just acceptance of others, and just following what we each need to do.

I love being a stay at home mom! It’s soo rewarding and I get to be the main influence on my kids and watch them grow. The Bible is the best place to get answers on our role as women. Love that you are speaking out with confidence your beliefs because in the day we live in the media has worked so hard to make Christians look bad and they want us to hunker and hesitate to speak out.
@BioBioLove
@BioBioLove 3 года назад
Respectfully, I am not sure where you live but which media work to make Christians look bad? I live in Europe and thats definitely not the case. In the USA 65% of adults are Christians, and even world wide Christianity is the biggest religion. Again really respectfully, I dont see anyone silencing Christians, unless of course your circumstances are very different than what we experience.
@Lea2008-k8b
@Lea2008-k8b 3 года назад
@@BioBioLove I believe there is a stigma against women in certain areas that choose to stay home and raise their children. Some church denominations do encourage that. A woman can be a Christian and help provide for her family. I do believe that if financially possible, and it is agreed by both parents it is helpful to have a parent ( notice I said a parent) home with the children. Christians many times do get a bad wrap, We have to remember Christians are human beings, they are not perfect. Sometimes the media doesn't always recognize that.
@heatherervin8321
@heatherervin8321 3 года назад
I live in the US as the news here is biased against Christians, the public school system is against Christianity and even pushing to be more so (hence why most Christians are pulling their kids out now from public schools), our president is definitely against Christians. It’s definitely everywhere. I’m not sure if u re Christian or not but if u are it’s easy to see it.
@heatherervin8321
@heatherervin8321 3 года назад
media definitely gets the upper hand in being heard because they’re not mostly Christian and they’re on a platform that is able to be heard and make it look like most of us believe the way they do, which is definitely deceitful. There’s been lots of censoring for those who speak out against media. They’ve been known to take down comments, anything that goes against what they promote.

I feel like the pressure that comes onto young women is from society as a whole. People pressure others into feeling like they need to have kids even when they don’t necessarily think they want kids and they end up maybe neglecting their kids or not taking motherhood as importantly as they should.

I am a sahm to a two year old little girl. Leaving the workforce to stay home with her was very hard on me and I have dealt with a lot of depression around that but I also cannot bare the thought of having it any other way! Being that she's two now I have kinda figured out those issues surrounding the loneliness of it but it's just something I didn't expect when going into motherhood. I'm thinking when she is older I will probably start working part time but until then I love teaching her things. She also teaches me how to slow down and enjoy the little things more
@briannapeters4936

Totally understand this! I worked since I was 15. And stopped at 27 when I had my daughter. I wasn’t ready for the shock of just being home. It was a huge adjustment and I did feel lonely. I wasn’t sure how to cope and no one ever talked about this kind of feeling before so I didn’t know what was wrong with me! But now she’s almost 3, I have a 1 year old and another on the way due in November. It gets so much better! I think I’ve just fully accepted this role and not just as a “job” but as a gift from God. What we are doing in our homes with our children, will affect generations from now. Their kids, their kids kids and so on will hopefully all have learned something starting with us. How awesome is that?? Listen to Nancy Campbell’s podcast “from our home to yours”... if you get the chance! I listen to her once a week and just boosts me in the encouragement department :) I hope you enjoy this season of life 💕
@Reeshawd
@Reeshawd 3 года назад
The transition can be SO rough! I felt guilt for not bringing in money, the loneliness, feeling useless bc I didn't have a "job". It took me two years to get my footing at home mentally/emotionally. And really, no one talks about it! Now that I'm settled, the only thing I want to do is open my own business if I work at all. I have grown to appreciate myself and the hard work I do all day, just like when I was at work. What helped me, not saying it'd work for everyone, but I always shared my feelings to my husband. I tried not to be overwhelming lol but i could get in tears sometimes. We worked out times for us to hang out alone, and times I could leave and go to the gym or coffee shop to have some solitude. He also assured me that it was okay that I didn't contribute financially which would chip away at the guilt I felt about it. Everything else just took time.

Wow, Megan. This chatty video is just what I needed. I’m a mom of two and I never imagined a future where I’d be a stay at home mom. I have 3 college degrees and used to think it was a waste of my time to stay home. However, my point of view changed as I go through life and realize what a blessing it is to be there for my children on a daily basis. Not only do I care for them but I also take care of my dad and my in-laws. My life is unique but I know the care and service I provide to my family is highly valued by my loved ones. Thank you for the encouragement!

It really needs to be about personal choice - the most important thing for kids seems to be having parents who are mostly happy/contented with their lives. Miserable parents whether at home or working away usually aren't able to give their kids their best. I always knew that if I had children I wanted to mostly stay home with them - but none of the men I dated saw the value of women's work and all told me that they expected to have a wife who worked full time and kids would be fine in daycare. Money was their priority and they didn't see that having a mom mostly stay home with the children as being worth the sacrifices. So - no husband or kids for me. I don't want to parent with someone who didn't value/prioritize the same things I did. Appreciation to all the moms and dads out there who are doing the best they can for their kids.

Each mom should do what she wants/needs to do without fear of reproach from other moms. When my kids were young I had to work to make ends meet. I had always wanted to be a stay at home mom, but you do what you have to do. We did live in Silicon Valley at the time so that didn’t help. Now, I am fortunate enough to not have to work anymore and I now do daycare for my grandson. It is amazing! Bottom line is let’s all take an example from Jesus and always be kind and say kind things. I love your channel, it the video I wait for anxiously each Thursday. Keep it up!

I agree with your sentiments that women shouldn’t judge one another for doing things differently. Some women don’t want to have children and that’s okay. Some women will never enter the workforce and will stay at home full time and that’s okay. Some women work full time but have wonderful relationships with their children. Personally, I think it is important for my children to see me working outside the home so that I can model for my children the importance of contributing to society and knowing my own self worth separate from being a mother. Let’s not judge one another, but instead recognize that we all have different values and priorities.

Motherhood is not a set thing... Our Mothering styles are what works best for the family. I'm a full time RN, Momma of an amazing 10 year old (with 3 angel babies in heaven). Life is crazy busy, sometimes stressful, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Our home is clean enough to be healthy, dirty enough to be happy and our daughter is thriving. We teach her alot of the old school values and lost talents like cooking, cleaning, canning and preserves, sewing, gardening, my hubby has taught her how to change the oil in her 4 wheeler and change the tires on my vehicle. She's content to be out side rather than on social media. In general it's quite simple, just be kind, we are all doing the very best we can.

I am a sahm, and I always say I am lucky I had the privilege to be able to do that. Children are a blessing, and I am so happy I was able to stay home for mine. Growing up my parents told my brothers and I that it didn't matter to them what we wanted to do with our lives as long as we kept striving to put God first and to serve Him faithfully in all that we do. This has become my prayer and desire for my children too. Keep on keeping on for the Lord, Megan! We can see you're a God fearing mom, an encouragement to many!

What amazing timing for this discussion! We are moving into our first home this August after a few years of renting and we are newly married. My husband loves to work and thrives on that, but in the past year I’ve realized how much I love being a homemaker. I’m not super happy in my current full time job and am seriously considering leaving once we move. My husband is very supportive and happy to go to work while I take care of our home and future children.. for now we just have fur children! I’m thinking of having a part time job too, but am planning to just take things slow and figure out what makes me happiest. I went to college and got a degree and originally planned to be a career woman so I’m not sure where the shift happened but I’m excited for the future! Absolutely LOVE your videos!

My mom always worked outside the home and I can say I've learned so much from her. Even though I definitely saw her being stressed out sometimes and working crazy hours to fulfil all our wishes, she absolutely loved her job and I know for sure that she needed to be that amazing scientist she still is. There is a lot she taught me through her going to work and talking about work but also admitting that sometimes it can be really hard to get all on the same page. So thankful for my upbringing and also for my experiences in day-care! I absolutely support your perspective on respecting and not attacking each other: We're all moms or future moms who struggle and are still looking for their way of doing this. Love to all our moms from Germany, with God's help you'll find your way!

None of us who work outside of the home are “just” a mom in the evenings. And we don’t have other people raise our children…we do just as much raising as SAHMs or WFHMs. It’s a privilege to be a mom however we do it.

I think you're absolutely right about 'seasons of life' - I have worked full-time, then been a SAHM for a few years, then been a part-time working Mum. Now my children are grown up I still work part-time rather than go back full time as I really enjoy the free time to do other things now e.g. gardening, keeping my home nice, volunteer work, meeting up with friends etc. Some people in our Church (usually more well-off ones!) raised their eyebrows at working Mums like me, but the thing that matters most to me is that BOTH parents work out what is right for the family - my husband and I discussed these things together at every stage in our life and were careful to ensure we felt our family life was in good balance. I absolutely agree with what you say about our example to our children - especially our daughters - that women can have fulfilling careers. I'm very like you - I love my daughters and so glad I was given them by God but I wasn't very maternal either!

Hi Megan - Hearing you say you disagree with the premise of feminism makes me think you might not understand it, because everything you're saying aligns with the premise of feminism. Contemporary feminism isn't about women being one thing in particular, or denying the value of femininity and work that women often do in the realms of home and family. Feminism is about every woman having the freedom to make choices for herself, choices that align with her faith/personal beliefs and honor her heart's desires, instead of her choices being governed by someone else or a wider set of cultural expectations of what women *should* do. Everything you're saying echoes the feminist idea that there's value and validation in being a full-time parent, just as there's value in having a side hustle, being a work-from-home parent, or being a parent who works outside the home. As you say, everyone has different talents, capacities, dreams, and support networks. Being a feminist means believing that no matter where she was born or into what her circumstances look like, each woman should be able to take those differences into consideration and make the choices that help her own dreams come true.

There are different "waves" of feminism am I right. I guess one of the things I would disagree with would be that men and women are EQUAL. Yes we have equal worth, but we both inherently bring different gifts to the table. We aren't actually the same. But perhaps, I would have been more of a feminist the first time around. Maybe I don't understand it completely. You are right!

I totally hear you on this and think you are talking about true and Biblical feminism. But I will say that the world has twisted the word feminism to mean something totally different. I would argue that feminism in the world can carry a tone of bashing men and looking down on the Christian and/or traditional view of family.

I came from a background nearly identical to yours. It was the same way in our church denomination - no one said it was required to be a SAHM, but it was the common thing to do. On the other hand, our church did encourage women to go to college and work toward careers if that’s what they felt was right. I think having a career is wonderful, but there are so many factors to consider, especially when kids are involved. Who would be babysitting? If I had a trusted family member or friend that could help out, I would be more willing to spend time away from home. However, if a public daycare was my only option, I would be extremely hesitant to go that route 🤷🏼‍♀️ Again, it’s all personal choices and what works best for each family. Thanks for the great content! 😊

I think this is great advice! I'm not a mom and don't really have any desire to be but I think it's the hardest job out there. I look at my mom and know how much she did and gave up, to take care of me. It's not easy! But I agree that you can be and/or do whatever it is you feel called to do and should do so without having major guilt. :)

Thank you Megan, for addressing this topic. I could agree with so much of what you said! I'm a mom of three and was a sahm, then a work from home mom and now a sahm again in this season. 🙂 (And I love both!) An interesting insight I once read from someone concerning Proverbs 31... if you start at the beginning of the chapter it appears that this is the advice of the kings mother on the type of woman he should be looking for. So that would mean the woman described in Proverbs 31 was not an actual person but rather an ideal/model woman that the kings mother would have wanted for him. I think if we look at it that way it takes off some of the pressure. 😅 What mother wouldn't have some almost unattainable ideals for the woman she wants for her son?😉

Being a stay at home mom is a blessing. Being a working mom is sometimes an absolute must. Just being a mom either way is a real blessing. I was both. I stayed home with my kids until they both were in school. Then started working part time then full time about the time my oldest started college. I was told I was oppressed because I have been married 43 years. I am happy and content in what ever season I am in, in my life. That is what matters to me. Not others opinions.

My husband and I worked opposite shifts so our children were never in childcare . Luckily, I didn’t work full time so we still made sure to have family time. We were fortunate we had that option , but we also made a choice to do without certain things other people may deem as necessities. We wanted to be the ones to raise our children . But moms need support , especially in the time of social media where it seems people only post their best images . None of us have it all together , so we should support each other . I personally agree with your views and cannot believe anyone would take the the time to email you and tell you that you were oppressed ! You were very diplomatic and gracious .

I feel like raising children is a lot of work. I personally would love to do a side hustle but I had a mom that babysat through my growing up years and I feel like you can’t do both well. Again this is my personal experience and I also have a friend that also had a working mom(store) and we both don’t have a tight bond if you know what I mean. The relationship isn’t strong because she was distracted and I felt like she valued her stay at home job more than raising us/relationship. making sure that your children don’t see your face light more through your job over spending time with them. Also making sure you don’t shrug there feelings aside when working. I think that’s a lot of it I seen that her job sparked joy over nurturing a relationship. We had a lot of fun playing with other children but I would take having a present non distracted mom over having playmate. There are pros to a child seeing a parent work from home but we need to put it on a scale and see if it’s worth it. I feel life is to short to not spend with my children because before I know it they will be grown then I will have time to do my hobby dreams/job. I like what keepers at home mean. Guarding our children’s hearts with what comes in our home. I was surprised by the types of books some M people bring into the home.

As a feminist I cringed when you said you don’t agree with feminism! I support lifting up and empowering other women to live how they want to. I mostly stay home with my children too and it’s very valuable work and can be very fulfilling. But I support any path a woman/ mother wants to take and will fight anyone who says a wife/mother NEEDS to live a certain way, work/ not work/ whatever. That is what feminism is all about!

You make some great points here. I was a stay at home mom when my kids were little. I knew it was exactly where I needed and wanted to be. I was overly fulfilled. I went on to work at a preschool at our church and I found myself having a heart for working moms who struggled leaving their kids at daycare. Feeling terrible that they were missing out on normal kid stuff, like running barefoot in the grass, getting filthy dirty from playing and exploring outside. So it became my calling to create a small preschool from my home where kids could come and just be kids. Most importantly, I never wanted any parent to feel guilty about the path that they are on in life. It’s been almost 10 years since then and I’ve never advertised my school and the lord has blessed me with the most amazing families. I was even able to homeschool my boys for two years in elementary school. (Middle school math might have sent me over the edge. So they had to return to regular school. We all have to know our limits. Mine is 7th grade math🤪) Life is hard enough and we are all just doing the best that we can.

Being a mom is one of the most precious and rewarding things a woman will do (if that is what she chooses to do). I missed out on ALOT because I worked outside the home, by the end of the day I was worn out and stressed out. Then there was dinner to make, house to clean, laundry to be done. So, even though I contributed financially I missed out on so much. Many years later, I injured my back and was facing a surgery so I came home. I would not trade those last few years with my son, he is grown and on his own now. I'm learning to balance my days, I'm learning it's okay to relax, read a book. Go to lunch with a friend. Do I get lonely, sure. Do I miss the money? Sure. But, in this season of life, I wouldn't have to any other way. To all you mom’s your kiddos will benefit so much more than you can imagine. If they have a happy and healthy mom. Do the best you can each day, and that is all you can do. YOU are enough.

I've come to the conclusion that when mothers judge other mothers, it comes from a place of insecurity and doubt in their own decisions. They are threatened that you made a different choice to them, so what is wrong with their choice? And are you judging them? So it's a pre-emptive judgement as a sort of self-defence, but the issue is all about their own choices. The way I run my family and home has nothing to do with anyone else. Every family has such intricate differences - income, illness, number of kids, schooling choices, other dependents eg parents, step kids that live away, even just hobbies and life balance - that it's impossible to have one blanket accepted way of life. And wouldn't that be so boring!

I would suggest you do a bit more research and reading into feminism - and not look at radicalized “memes” or radical expressions that are often shared as a smear campaign against feminism. In short the majority of middle of the road feminists aren’t against motherhood or SAHM - many of them are mothers themselves! They’re simply FOR women having a choice in whether they work, become mothers or whatever else they may choose to pursue. Feminism isn’t against motherhood it’s FOR the freedom to choose what your life looks like. I for one am a feminist. I work. I can’t wait to become a mother. I love watching your content for inspiration and a different point of view. I love cooking and quiet nights at home. I believe a woman deserves the right to pursue any dreams she has without societal pressure to be any one thing. All the best to you - hope this comment helps someone ❤️

I stayed home completely after my daughter was born and continued to stay home for about 10 years. We also began homeschooling during this time, and have been since. Several years back, my husband transitioned to working full time at home, which allowed me to begin working 1-2 days a week outside the home. That 1-2 days of outside work truly has helped me appreciate my role as a SAHM even more. I think I was at the point of needing some time to myself, focusing my mental attention on matters other than my children. It's been refreshing to me, I appreciate my SAHM (mostly) life even more now, and I've taken a bit of the financial burden off of my frugal husband. This wouldn't have been possible years ago or even been the best choice for us, but God often has different directions for us in different seasons of life.

Feminism is such a tricky thing to navigate through, I was a nursing assistant before I got married and I started being a stay at home just before me and my husband got married. Alot of my old coworkers called me brainwashed for marrying my husband since he is 10 years older then I am. There are alot of people I know that think I am a prisoner for being a stay at home. At the same time they say that they are pro-feminism so women can chose how to live their lives. If they are for letting women make their own choices, why are mine being considered to be such a horrible thing. I always have had the choice to go back to work, but my husband makes a good income, so it is not a necessity. I am a homeschooling mother of 3 children, I raise chickens and rabbits for meat to help feed our family. This was also my idea and my choice to do, I don't think people can live and let live anymore.

I love your perspective on this, I’ve always wanted to be a stay at home mom & once I was there I was so lonely & felt like I hated it … which was so disheartening because my husband and I worked 10 years to get to where I COULD be a SAHM.. and of course that made me feel really bad & guilty, because I know it’s such a privilege to be ABLE to be a SAHM, so for me the balance was finding a hobby I enjoyed while being a SAHM & now my dilemma is feeling that I should be making $$ from my hobby since it does take up all of my extra time that I’m not spending taking care of my kids, spending with my husband, or taking care of the house. But I think the balance I’ve settled on is just allowing it to be an outlet for now & then maybe it can make money once my kids are in school & I have more free time during the day :) I think we are all just trying to find balance like you said & I wish women could work more on encouraging each other rather than judging each other’s choices - and I also know a lot of working moms WISH they could stay home - which I know you mention all the time in other videos & how your heart goes out to them. I also know we can get stuck in the “grass is greener” from either side & finding contentment in our own situation is so important thanks for being such an encouraging light 💗

I’m not a mom, but I hope to be. It isn’t so much that I find children to be a burden, however, my family would be unable to raise a family on one salary. Additionally, I would love love love to be a stay at home mom. My mother was a working mother, as my father was sick for much of my life. I always wanted to have a mom who was a “classroom mom” like you other classmates. I’m an atheist, but I love watching your videos. Your honesty and courage to speak your truth is refreshing. I consider myself a feminist, but I think there’s one thing that I thing I wanted to clarify. I think the lady had the wrong idea who said you were “oppressed”. Feminist standpoint is women should be able to work if they want (with fair pay), or stay at home if they wish. It doesn’t discourage moms who embrace the more traditional role. I think many people have this misconception. It sounds like you might be a little feminist yourself ;) Thank you for making this video, I enjoyed tidying up while listening!
