I went on a guided tour of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum (listed as an UNESCO World Heritage site) on my last day in Kraków.
**View the two minutes of footage between 5:53 and 7:52 at your own discretion.**
The text at the beginning of this video reads as follows:
"*sensitive content warning*
in this episode, i go to auschwitz-birkenau, the largest of all nazi concentration camps.
it is located in poland just outside kraków.
the holocaust was a tragic loss of innocent human life born from an incomprehensible hatred for followers of the jewish faith as well as other minority groups (like gypsies).
it’s even crazier to think this happened less than 100 years ago.
the nazis tried to hide the evidence of their atrocities and attempted to destroy these camps at the end of the war.
this video shows some of what remains.
the official tour guides visitors around the camp where so many were held hostage, mistreated, and killed while sharing information and stories from the holocaust.
roughly 1.5 million had their lives taken from them at this camp alone.
there is a very heavy and somber energy here that affects visitors in a different way than a history book."
