This was really interesting, should get them to write down their guess after each clue to see how early they figure it out or how their thought process evolves.
YES! I would love to see how their guess changes over the course of watching and listening! In fact, not just after each clue, but like... let them scribble out their guesswork all along! (and then show us at the END, so as both to not to spoil our fun AND to provide a few chuckles)
Can only support this idea. It felt a little bit, like barry was (like some other times) only hitchhiking on some guesses. I really wonder if they either switched who guessed first, or your idea, writing it down the answers would not be different.
@@Aquelll they pretty much did that already in one of the episodes, granted only barry got an ingredient but they all got a "twist" they had to use in the challenge
I had a feeling it had something to do with Elvis when Ebbers went from Royalty to Fried Chicken, and was confirmed with his “All Shook Up” and “Don’t be Cruel” references. Hahaha. I’d absolutely love to see more of these! I’m a sucker for trivia, history, and food, so this definitely ticks all of the boxes for me. 👍🏻
Idea for a scoring system. They have to write down a guess after each clue and get a point every time they're guess is correct. Then they lock in a final answer when the meal is complete which should be 2 or 3 points. Gives a reward for figuring it out faster and presents the opportunity for heartbreak if they have it right but change their mind.
I got Elvis at 3:57 with the fried chicken, but didn't figure out the wedding meal part. I wouldn't mind seeing more of these on the channel. The only problem is I usually end up just making my self hungry by watching your videos.
That's where I'm at... Still watching the vid but was sure it was to do with Elvis after fried chicken was mentioned, along with Royalty clue. Never got any further than that. Still watching the vid in fact😝
I’ve just figured it out: the reason why Bens chefs jacket isn’t on brand after the redesign, is because he has a new sparkly chefs jacket on back order. Must be, right?!?
I ADORE this and would love it to become a new permanent show on the channel. Learning more about history is always fun and this ticks all the boxes for me!
As a History teacher Id love yo see you go through that entire Menu book! It was the Ham and Eggs that gave it away for me only because it is my favorite breakfast go to and my Nan used to tell me it was Elvis's Favorite breakfast.
3:30 "rock and rolling" and 3:50 "fit for royalty" immediately tipped me off about who this was cooked for, had no idea why though. Then when you said Jamie and Baz each had one I guessed it was probably a wedding 😃
Yes, this concept is a keeper! Been watching Titanic menu on "Tasting History with Max Miller" and it has been interesting. Adding guessing element is fun!
Max Miller is so DREAMY! (Schoolgirl scream) And yes, I am up for the crew doing more historical cooking like Townsends and Early American...Get them out of that horrid little business park studio.
I absolutely love this. As a history nerd and foodie, this was right up my alley......didn't get the event correct, but loved guessing and watching. Really hope this series sticks
I love that you guys are still coming up with excellent, interesting, and brand new stuff after 10 years of watching. It's never what you expect, but always just what you need!
Watching Ebbers cut a piece of egg and put it atop his ham just gave him +5 brownie points from me. And no, I had no idea what the hell anyone was talking about but its always fun to watch Ebbers toss words at you and watch Jamie's face explode from disgust and confusion.
I would love to see Ben do more of these. Some of my favorite videos are Ben getting to just cook and show new food, his skill, and nerd out about food. His energy and attitude is just so fun to watch
How did they guess?! This was fun, guys. Thank you. I love watching Ben cook, it’s all so fluent and clean and efficient AND he manages to talk sensibly at the same time.
Jamie asking "Have each of us had one of these?" clued me in on it being a wedding, had no clue whose though. Love the idea of this as a new series, can't wait for more!
Idk why, maybe it's cuz you and Sorted occupy like 2 completely different parts of my brain, it feels so weird to see you here... Its like seeing a teacher at the supermarket...
I knew for sure it had to do with Elvis after the “Don’t be cruel” line Ben said, but wasn’t sure on the event. This was really fun and definitely would like to see more.
When Ben mentioned that Priscilla was young, I did a search. I never knew that Elvis started "dating" her when she was 14. He was a predator. Yes there was a caveat in the video, but celebrating this wedding menu? Gross.
I loved Ebbers' little mini clues. This was brilliant. I guessed who the person was around about 4.04, mainly from the oysters rock and rolling. Didn't really get the event though. I'll be ready for the next one.
I know it’s autocorrect not recognizing Rockefeller, but I kinda want to try “oysters rock-n-rolling.” 😁👍🏻 EDIT: I stand corrected! Ebbers said it, not autocorrect- but I still want to try it!
That's about when I figured out who it was about too. The rock and roll and royalty made it pretty obvious. It took me until the second clue to figure out the occasion though. ... at least, I think I figured it out. I'll let you know if I was correct once I finish watching.
I was right. Had he not given the second clue though, I would have definatly guessed his funeral. Especially given the "ending in tears (tiers)" clue. I was pretty sure they both hadn't been prematurely declared dead so I had to change my guess after the second clue.
I've always enjoyed Tasting History with Max Miller, and Sorted bringing historical menus, not just dishes, but entire menus, just puts a smile on my face :)
I just want to say I really appreciate that your videos have "handmade" subtitles. as a hearing impaired non-native english speaker, this helps me to better enjoy your content.
I love learning about dishes and cooking in history! I like to learn how things were made, historical and cultural things, and the like. I hope you do more episodes like this.
@@SortedFood You guys did a great job. I wouldn't mind seeing just a time period and some select dishes from it, not just a completed menu. I guessed right after Ebbers said it was a dish fit for royalty and started talking about fried chicken. Good clues!
I was already edging towards Elvis, with the first clue "Fit for royalty" and the little tidbits Ben threw in with the "rock n roll" for the oysters. But the second he told Barry, "don't be cruel" - that sealed it for me. :)
I knew it was Elvis after the first clue of the feast being fit for royalty, and knew it was his wedding after the second clue where Ebbers said both Barry and Jamie had had one. This was a really fun episode and I'd love to see more in this series!
I'm sure this will get swallowed up in the deluge of comments, but... Absolutely continue this series. And to play off the "game show" vibe, set some rules for the normals (e.g., actually keep it to N yes/no questions). I'm a "normal". My mother taught me to cook as soon as I could see over the table top (standing on a chair). I spent most of my younger years working in restaurants (from "fine Victorian dining" to "bar & grill"), and I love cooking. Watching you lot is and absolute joy. I have a notepad next to me whenever I watch, and I jot down the important bits that I can call on when I'm doing my own thing. Thank you.
This is such a clever idea! ❤️ I'd love to see more historically significant menus be brought to life. I'd guessed it was a wedding when clue number 2 came around but I hadn't figured out it was Elvis'.
Fun theme...yes please! More of this! I thought the "tiers" clue was actually "tears," with Elvis' fans crying once the news about his marriage became public...but it definitely confirmed the celebrity was Elvis, and the event was his secret wedding.
I got it around 6 minutes 30..Ebbers mentioned the ingredients ‘rocking and rolling together’ plus the mention of royalty gave Elvis, and the ‘you’ve each had one (and only one) pointed to wedding. Very fun episode!!!
Improvement: when bringing in all the new dishes into the sexies after Bens made his 3, could you please put the title of the new dish somewhere on the screen?
I love the concept of this idea, I'd like to see more. That said I would also love to see the return of Pass It On and the conclusion of the Chef Skills Challenge.
6:35 My guess is Elvis's wedding feast; it feels fancy, yet also American South, and I know both Jamie and Barry are married. I was initially thinking maybe Elvis's last meal (after the fit for royalty clue) but then the second clue made me go with wedding. 8:14 Okay, now I am absolutely certain it's Elvis's wedding. A wedding ends in "tiers" because of the cake, and in the past I'm sure they made Elvis's famous peanut butter, banana, and bacon sandwich (maybe in a battle? I seem to recall Mike talking about it).
I love historical food videos!! The old cookbook you guys use is great too!! Keep these videos up please!!! History and food are 2 of my favorite things so I love when they are merged into one. You guys and mythical kitchen do this really well.
Was guessing something to do with Elvis with the "royalty" clue and Ebbers causally dropping the line "don't be cruel". Didn't know about the whole wedding though, so definitely enjoying the series so far; food and history, gotta love it.
Page randomly jumped, saw answer before could guess. Was on track for wedding, suspected southern with the chicken but wasn't sure who. LOVE the game please play more!
I think less obvious clues (or maybe less extra "hidden" clues?), but allowing them to work together so they can talk through their thoughts, would be good. Also like the idea of them writing a guess after each clue. But love the idea and would love to see more!
I've been to Graceland, but I don't remember this event being talked about. Then again, I was a teenager and too busy being distracted by how awesome his estate was. All of these dishes look and sound delicious.
Please, do more of this series!! 😊Also, maybe Ben can incorporate sequins into his presentation outfit for the reveal portion at the end? That would be spectacular 🤩
Love this series! I actually saw this book and thought this would be a fun one for you all to review. It’s like you’re reading my mind. ;) Good one boys!
Absolutely love clue #3 with its double meaning! This is such an Elvis menu, crazy good food, with no attention paid to appearances. Great job, really fabulous format-definitely want to see more, and a new book for me to buy! Ben could run a book club with these.
I’ve just bought the book! History is my favourite thing - specifically history of food, music, fashion and royalty! If anyone is interested, I’ll let you all know what I think of the book once I’ve read it!
You know, I would LOVE to see you try something from Les Diners de Gala, a recipe book written by Salvador Dali. That would make for a hilarious video.
The Normals should lock in their answers privately with time stamps. They can update their guess at any point but have to update their timestamp. Earliest correct guess wins! This was a really fun format.
Ebbers' clue of royalty got it for me. Oysters Rockerfeller is such an iconic Southern US dish so I didn't think it'd be any European Royalty for example. I knew it wasn't Elvis' final dish because that was famously some crazy dish with fried peanut butter, banana, bacon with ice cream or something mental like that.
My guess from "fit for a king" was solidified when the next dish was fried chicken. A "fancy" dish like oysters Rockefeller followed by a down home southern dish sounded very "poor man got rich." Elvis' Graceland screams this about him. I kept wondering if you were going to give it away by making grilled peanut butter and jelly too. The lobster accompanied by ham and eggs is part of the same story too.
I was completely lost and don't think I would've gotten it, no matter how many hints, but I still thought it was a fun and informative video. Can't wait to see which ones you do next!
Really good idea for a new series guys. Some people are gonna love the little snippets of info about the target before the end. History x Cooking? I'm all over that!
somehow the “randomess” of each meal made me think this was someone’s last meal. even with the clues, i was still fixated on that idea, which makes it funnier that i was COMPLETELY way off.
Loved this concept. ❤When Ben introduced fried chicken in buttermilk, I thought elvis for a very short second, then when I saw the egg and ham, I went really wrong. Drat!! 😅 Will watch this episode again and again to study and scrutinise Ben’s clue style to get ready for the next one. Thanks boys...you never disappoint. 🥰
