Menzi Muck M545 digging out a reservoir in Switzerland on a extrem steep slope

The return: This construction site lasted over a week. The whole bottom of the reservoir was removed from the mud. We're going to film Menzi Muck on many construction sites, but that's not our main job. Therefore it was not possible for us to film the climb also, we're sorry. Franco climbed the slope, as he went down, only that the boom is placed uphill. He pulls up the Menzi Muck with the winch and the boom therefore.

I swear some companies are releasing machines which are two years of r&d away of being actual mechs. This is genuinely impressive.
@Googlencraptubesuckabandonship
What does it having wheels make it not a mech? Cause that looks like a mech to me.
@blackhawksp4453
@blackhawksp4453 Год назад
@@Googlencraptubesuckabandonship A mech's primary locomotion method would be it's legs on non rolling elements, it also would rely mostly on some sort of active balancing be it via computer or pilot mimicking like prosthesis the antirobot, these machines rely mostly on wheels for transport and passive stability by just stretching their "legs" which are more like a crane's arm due to the lack of joints and the presence of telescopic sections, effectively making them heavy adjustable tripods, tho no less impressive.
@amando96
@amando96 Год назад
@@blackhawksp4453 So a mech with legal restrictions
@Lappmogel
@Lappmogel Год назад
Pure walking mechs would be pretty dumb, there is no reason why you would be walking everywhere when wheels would do 99% of the time while being more effective in every way. Mechs would also require a lot of hydraulics so even if you where building a two legged star wars mech you would want to put some hydraulic powered ''roller skates'' on its legs and drive it around when you could. That would also give it some nice rubber shoes which you also would want. We might get 4-8 legged mechs with advanced lidar systems etc that scan the terrain and automatically walk over it (unlike this) because that would be pretty awesome in the forest industry (alot less destructive) but it would still have wheels on the feets so it could drive around if it needed to. What makes a true mech anyway? I'd argue that it should be able to walk over obstacles smoothly with only forward/left/right commands from the operator most of the time, which would require some type of terrain scan. If it have wheels or the number of legs doesn't really matter.
@Tankliker
@Tankliker Год назад
@@amando96 more like mechs without the restrictions. From a technical standpoint tracks and wheels are way more effective and efficient. On a human scale maybe not so much, but I mean nature had a couple million years to figure that out before us.

It's funny because the maternal half of my family are all heavy equipment operators and almost all of them are low status, highly bigoted, hate filled rednecks. They barely operate their machines, constantly get written up and their biggest concern is how to cheat the drug tests after having the winter off. I ran from that side of the family as fast as I could. Funny, though, I'd love to do blue collar work if it was professional and filled with skill and pride like in this video.

@K1lostream
@K1lostream Год назад
@@randygreen007 Possible but improbable- the entire point of this machine is that it can get to places other excavators cannot go. The cost of development will have been considerable (as will the cost of hiring it). The thing that makes it worth it is you save on other costs to get plant into position (like hiring heavy-lift helicopters and don't kid yourself the one that lifted the wood out could have lifted an excavator). If it had to be lifted by helicopter, may as well use a conventional excavator at that point.
@randygreen007
@randygreen007 Год назад
@@K1lostream There’s a lot of truth to what you’re saying and I agree for the most part. I enjoy going four-wheel driving and have managed to get my vehicle down many steep slopes but knew there was absolutely no way that I could exit that same way. I’ve also spent time in Alaska where heavy lift helicopters are a dime a dozen but you are right they come at a cost. The thing we don’t know is if the helicopter they used for the logs was also used for the equipment? All of this aside I’m not at all discounting it’s ability. It’s a very capable and remarkable piece of equipment.
