@@thejasb1948 If you have an electrical and electronics background, transitioning into MEP or BIM is definitely possible. However, if your background is in electronics or electronics and communication, it may not be the best fit for you, especially as a fresher. MEP is more suited to mechanical and electrical engineers. While I’ve seen many people from electronics, civil and other fields like automobile or aeronautical engineering succeed in MEP. Personally I know lots of people. But, it’s important to know that advancing in MEP, BIM-MEP field might be challenging without a mechanical or electrical background. You can still study and build a career in MEP or BIM, but I recommend starting your career in a field more closely related to electronics, as it might offer better long term prospects. To work as a MEP Draftsman, MEP Quantity surveyor, BIM Modeller, B.tech/BE degree is not mandatory whether it's in india or in abroad. Diploma is more than sufficient.

Many ITI graduates find opportunities in fields like MEP Quantity Surveying, Drafting, and even BIM Modeling, especially those with an ITI in Electrical or Mechanical. However, with a background in ITI Power Electronics, which is more technician-oriented, it might be challenging to build a career in MEP or BIM. Instead, I recommend exploring careers in Building Automation Systems, Building Management Systems, PLC, or SCADA. These areas align better with your skills. This is based on my insights.

Electrical covers lighting, power, data, PA systems, fire alarms, CCTV, and solar. Plumbing involves water supply, drainage, and irrigation. MEP-BIM integrates these services within Building Information Modeling (BIM), a process that uses Revit and other softwares for architectural modeling, structural modeling, MEP modeling, quantity surveying, estimation, construction documentation, sustainability , upto facility management. Means, from feasibility study of a project to facility management. Entering BIM directly often involves 3D modeling, but understanding MEP basics first is crucial. Without knowledge of conventional design methodologies and system functions, it’s hard to succeed in BIM. This versatility is common in the market, with many electrical professionals also doing mechanical work. Not only in drafting, If you're aiming for roles in quantity surveying, estimation, or BIM modeling, mechanical skills are beneficial. Getting a job in mechanical is not tough. You will get it for sure if you are skilled. However, focus on electrical too, as it's your primary background and crucial for long term career growth. Balancing both will enhance your career prospects.

With hands-on experience in MEP, whether it's in india or in abroad,I can confirm there are numerous vacancies in the market, in MEP / Building Information Modeling (BIM). If you are familiar with Design, Drafting, QS, Revit, Estimation, and can meet company needs, you can expect a decent starting salary. Don't expect a very high salary initially. Focus on performing well in interviews to secure a job with a decent starting salary. As you become more skilled, your salary will significantly increase, becoming very competitive. Don’t be discouraged. You should develop the necessary skills, either through courses or self-learning. Companies prefer skilled individuals over trainees, so ensure you can meet their needs to secure a good job with a decent salary in the market.

Since I'm working in MEP/BIM field I can assure it's a good field with decent salary prospects. For MEP, it's essential to have at least an engineering degree, diploma, or ITI certification. With an engineering degree, you can work in various roles like design, drafting, quantity surveying, estimation,bim, site either in consulting and contracting. A diploma allows for work in drafting, drafting with necessary design,qs, estimation , BIM or supervision roles, while an ITI certification qualifies for roles in drafting, quantity surveying, or BIM modeling. Without these qualifications, especially only having a 10th or plus 2 education background, it could be challenging to succeed in the MEP field. 10th or plus 2 guys can work under skilled labour(technician,electrician, plumber,duct or pipe fabricator)category rather skilled professional.
