I leased a 2017 C300 with this engine for my commute to work. All my other cars have V8s, but I was more interested in MPGs with this car. I am actually really impressed with the power this thing puts out, car has very good acceleration, and the mileage is great. I may look at a C63s to lease in 2 years.
Ah V8s are the best! Especially modern V8s, they are getting so good. The perfect balance between power, efficiency and a compact/lightweight design (not to mention the awesome soundtrack!).
The most components of the engine are assembled by robots...I saw a couple of people doing stuff without importance...but hey the final price for the product is very high... imagine the company's profit!!
The new Mercedes engines, which I think the video was one of, are going to be modular, 4,5 and 6 cylinder all coming from a common source. ie just adding a cylinder to the 4 pot to make the 5 pot and then another to make the 6 pot. This heralds the return of the straight 6 which I prefer to a V6. The V8 will continue as it is.
