Howdy Sean! Your technical instruction videos are nothing less than a gold mine of information for those of us with no formal training in automotive maintenance. Thank you for all you've contributed for the industry. I purchased a 2003 MB ML500 (9/2022) with this transmission and the first maintenance I completed was a transmission service. I replaced the conductor plate, installed some upgraded blue cap pressure solenoids, installed the TransGo shift kit, and, of course, completed the ATF/filter service when it rolled over to 100k miles. I also purchased an aftermarket TCM and my 722.6 W5A 400 is rock solid at this point. I do believe this is one of the videos that convinced me to purchase the TransGo shift kit. I used everything from the kit except a single spring. Again, thank you for you service sir! Thank you for helping an old aerospace propulsion journeyman supercharge his NAG1 transmission. It is greatly appreciated!
That s the most detaliated and comprehensive 722.6 workaround available, thank you very much for that! After seeing this video i plan to upgrade my VB with the Transgo kit, that s a nice design and i m sure it is an improvement over oem and much more reliable.

@@siuautomotive thank you so much Sean Boyle - need a little explanation - I do not think there is somebody out there who knows the 4L60E as well as you - well, it is about the P0758 - just this time because it is something very strange and you never have talked about it - this code was resolved just by making a proper overhaul in that 4L60E unit after checking everything electrical before taking the decision of taking down the unit to work with it - so, a mechanical problem can trigger an electrical one - yeah, the code just disappeared by overhauling the unit - this does not happen to me - it happened to a very good venezuelan technician - I am having a hard time trying to get in touch with him to ask him for a little explanation - that is why I thought you could help me just this time because you are very busy and even one day you said in one of your videos to one of your students; what? I can't come tomorrow, I have a life - hope you can help me with this strange code - Sean, even this venezuelan technician was using that day identifix after doing all the electrical testing before and even identifix with its hot lines says that one of the causes of that P0758 was internal mechanical in the unit - take care
I installed the Transgo kit, and the Sonnax TCC valve. Had flares, TCC lockups and hard shifts. Post repair I have greatly improved shifting, and 98% reduction in lockup. The only parts that were showing any signs of wear were the overlap bushings which seems odd to me because the wear was on the outside of the bushing and it appears they don't move in the bore. Otherwise everything looked and felt like new. The only real issue I'm noticing now (which is new post repair) is there seems to be a slight delay engaging in drive or reverse gear upon shifting. Previously it would immediately engage. Overall I'm happy, but did not enjoy doing this job. Messy and not easy on the ground. Much thanks to Sean, the videos were a life saver and I probably could not have done it with out them. Best advice I can give it to pay close attention to the valve orientation. You can easily mix things up.
Update: after driving a couple hundred miles I find it’s downshifting hard into first gear, mostly at low speeds. That’s a new issue that did not occur before the repair.
I have a couple vehicles with this transmission (Sprinter and Dodge Magnum). This info is amazing. At some point, I would like to rebuild the transmission in the Magnum. The 722.6 videos give me confidence that I can tackle the job.

I have a question when doing a transmission oil change the torque converter has a plug which we have to turn the crankshaft to find the drain plug. after emptying the torque converter will it fill itself with the oil that I will fill the pan after starting the engine?? Thank you for your answers
Yup. It'll fill 'er back up. Just make sure to account for that when you're refilling the transmission. Put it in neutral and let it idle for a bit as most transmissions will fill the TC while in N. That's why it's typically recommended to check trans fluid in N.
Great job on details !!!!! I see these improvement mods are for basically worn transmissions valve bodies ..Do you have modifications recommendations for a basically new (under 10k miles) oem transmission thats NOT experiencing any real problems to help on prolong / improve transmission life ( cooler, shift kit, etc?). This is 2017 Sprinter RV with 10.5k + GVW. Thanks Bob.G BTW my concern areas are the really soft shifts and sometimes low rpm Torque convertor shudder which i just drop a gear to prevent . The shudder seems almost eliminated since i had MB Dealer Emissions recall which included ECM flash there might have been possible SW improvement from MB for the convertor. lmk thanks Bob.G
Excellent presentation(s) Ref: 37:57... I have a Sprinter with the hole drilled. Before hole, the driveline would shutter coming to stop (referred to as rumble strip noise) and was quite concerning; felt like the ($1200) driveshaft would be destroyed eventually. After modification, life was exquisite as vehicle no longer felt like it was self imploding. (that took place 50K miles ago, and I have no codes or perceived ill effects) At 260K, I am preparing for a preventive tear down/rebuild. Is there a modification you would recommend which would alleviate the disconcerting condition that is RSN? 1985 SIU-C grad here, 1983 1-AA champions BTW, "You're doing a great job, keep up the good work."
I'm really enjoying these videos, unfortunately the transgo kit I bought had a pretty bad lubrication regulator valve - it was super notchy and only after some 2500 grit did it slide into the bore. Not sure if I trust that
Hi. great video. congrats. I have a 2012 JK Wrangler with 722.6 transmission in my garage. we made a overhaul but now, the transmission have a "little harsh" shift in the 1-2 shift and a slipping in 3-4 shift. we check the clutches and brakes clearances and are ok. the valve body looks ok, no wear on the valves or the valve body. we change de 3-4 shift solenoid but the issue stil remain. any idea what could be happening? thanks.
Hey man! Amazing video. I have a 2008 Dodge Charger SRT8 with a hellcat supercharger making 10psi on a stock NAG1. The 2-3 shift is poor at best. The trans was rebuilt 5000 miles ago and shifted very snappy with stock power, and even with boost, the 1-2 shift is very snappy. Which one of these kits would you recommend to improve the 2-3 shift? Sean, another excellent tutorial and explanation but what is the typical mileage of a automatic transition. As I live in the U.K. Most cars are manual transmission so expertise is very limited but as I have just retired I am now considering my next car which will be my retirement car and am thinking of purchasing an automatic. What transmission in a medium size European car in your opinion have a high reliability factor as I don't want to purchase a money pit on potential repairs.
Thank you! I'm not even sure what vehicles they sell over there, lol! I do like this Mercedes 722.6. Aside from that, I'd stay away from any CVT or DCT units. Honda's 10-speed is really nice. The ZF 9 speed is not well received, but I hear they're making some improvements to it. The ZF 8-speed is pretty good. I drive old junky cars, so I know how these new ones work and how to fix them, but I don't have any real experience owning them, lol!
Hii, when the gearbox is cold w211 722.6 5g tronic until it heats up you feel vibrations, tremors, humming when salting from 1 to 2 is most felt and so until it heats up a bit when the trabsmssion is heated flawlessly, oil and filter changed before 10 15 days what could be the problem ...?
I have a NAG1 (2005 version) that runs fine under light to medium throttle. Under full throttle, it will not shift, the car will go to the rev limiter. 200k - Filter and oil was replaced (+4). Any idea where to look?
Hey Sean, I’m having problems going into limp mode with my 2006 Grand Cherokee AWD, and am on a tight budget. What would you do for P0717 code(No signal from input shaft sensor).
Just order the conductor plate, it should also come with a new 13pin connector bushing which is highly recommended. I had same thing, and my input speed sensor was going bad and also had clutch residue all over it. Just my two cents
