I m pretty sure the 190 in its name is not its engine displacement. It was Mercedes's entry level compact car. Before this there were the S class and the E class in its line up. This car was never called the C class but its successor the W202 got the C class name when Mercedes started its class naming structure. Fun fact the C in the C class stands for compact, the E in the E class stands for executive and the S in the S class stands for sonder which means special in german language. 😊
