Nice video. it's worth investing in a caliper retraction kit though as they are useful for different makes and rear calipers that need screwing in.

I have just finished this job (sort of). What a nightmare. Caliper bolts came out easy enough but calipers took lots of persuasion to come off, lots of levering with a pry bar. Caliper carrier bolts were horrendous. I was able to get the impact wrench on one but the other one just didn't have the access to get the gun on it, couldn't get the breaker bar on it either even with the wheel turned out. Luckily I'd bought some decent spanners recently so the spanner and lump hammer whallops got them moving. Once I'd got those off the discs had of course fused to the hub. Plusgas and more hammer persuasion. Finally time to wind calipers in....then I realise I can't get my retraction kit in this type of caliper....g-clamps and bits of wood instead will do. Putting it all back together is ok....except the springs require the strength of Hercules and by this time its dark and I'm knackered. Finally get it dropped, torque wheels up and go for a drive.....brakes feel like a bit soft. Good job I've just bought a pressure bleeder. No doubt the bleed screws with be seized.... Even when buy one with a FSH it's still a grind and you wonder if half the garages never did the work that's claimed. Hopefully anyone else doing this has an easier job.

Did you go into the service mode to put the car into pad change option... it didnt say in the video. In other videos it mentions this.
@RyansWorkshop
@RyansWorkshop 16 дней назад
That only applies the the rear pads, the service mode retracts the electronic handbrake motors so it's possible to change the pads

It looks like there was still a lot of pad left when you replaced them. Was your sensor alerting you that you needed to replace your pads or did you do this brake job just so you could replace the disc with the proper sized disc? Excellent video and tutorial by the way!
@RyansWorkshop
@RyansWorkshop 2 года назад
The pads were rendered useless because of the large lip on the edge of the pad caused by the pads hanging over the edge of the disc because of having the wrong size fitted. Also the vehicle failed it's mot because of it, the owner said he bought the vehicle like that. And thank you 👍

The best way is how I done it in the video really, you can use a flat head screwdriver to assist in clipping it back on if it makes it easier

hi there, nice job mate. i also have an AMG sports pack r172 but i am not ok with the ride which i find it extremely uncomfortable. i was in search of fixing it and some said change the wheels with smaller ones for ex. 17 inches or less. here is my question ; with those big 344 mm discs 17 inch wheels fit in there?
@RyansWorkshop
@RyansWorkshop 3 года назад
Hello and thank you, OK so the disc would be fine with 17 inch, it's the brake caliper that would be a tight fit, as long as there is clearance between the brake caliper and inside of the wheel it'll be fine, I would recommend trying a 17 inch wheel on the car before buying, just to confirm clearance of the brake caliper!

Howdy, You seem to be very handy with the SLK’s, I have a question about my r172 250. This one is all about the seats. I have never had a more uncomfortable headrest. I am unable to electronically move the top headrest above the neckscarf. I am curious as some have mentioned that the headrests “jut”out if they detect an accident as the previous owner on my car did have. Doesn’t appear to be titled TOO forward however. But it’s getting atrocious. Is there anyway to MANUALLY tilt the top head rest on your seat back-and-forth? Thank ya.
@RyansWorkshop
@RyansWorkshop 3 года назад
If the vehicle has had a rear end accident and the headrests have activated it would be quite obvious to notice as it would look like the front part of the headrest has detached from the back part, if the headrest looks ok then unfortunately there is no manual forward or backward adjustment on this particular model, only up and down, I believe on the later models they introduced a manual push button on the side of the headrest for manual movement.

This might be stating the obvious but would a car with 322mm discs be able to fit 344mm? Thanks
@RyansWorkshop

In a word, no, The calipers and pads would all be wrong and out of alignment.
@RickyBobby23
@RickyBobby23 3 года назад
Why no grease on the pads?
@RyansWorkshop
@RyansWorkshop 3 года назад
The need for grease has diminished in recent years in line with advances in shim technology, In fact, its use could have the opposite effect, preventing the shim, the basis of quiet braking, from doing its job. Most modern brake pads are now supplied with noise fix shims and do not require the use of grease, it could actually be detrimental to their performance, the correct grease should only ever be applied to the moving parts of the caliper.
