E55 AirMatic Valve block and compressor service.
Suits I’m sure most early 03-09 W211 V8’s with AirMatic.
The part numbers are primarily all the same.
Parts I purchased from eBay and Pelican Parts.
Sorry for the lower res, my damn iPhone wouldn’t export anything bigger.

Over a year later and never had another Airmatic fault. Pump running great 👍🏼

Great video! What were the symptoms, when you decided to replace the Block? Mine is sitting in the front, after one night. And the compressor runs approx every 15-20 minutes, when driving around.

I think every 15-20 minutes is perfectly normal - mine goes off even every 4-5 minutes as the car goes over bumps and undulations. The main symptom for mine was when I scanned it the scanner said "Reservoir taking too long to fill" - which made me think the compressor wasn't working hard enough or air was escaping when filling. Now my airmatic 2/3 months later has NO codes - so I think the simple compressor refresh replacing the piston ring fixed it :) Another symptom which was random was the computer scanner would say that one of the accelleration sensors on the shock towers was giving a bad reading - so I replaced it but nothing improved, some online things said the valve block was faulty- It doesn't at all make sense really but I replaced the valve block and now thats stopped happening. I was getting 'Airmatic visit workshop' errors every few days. Had none since (touch wood). Hope this helps

Hello from a kiwi from Texas. What are the symptoms of a failing airmatic compressor/valve body? My 09 W211 E63 is drooping on one corner. Not sure if its the airmatic strut itself or a line issue, valve body issue or compressor issue. Car tries to raise when the car is on but then sags again immediately when off. Heard a sudden hissing nosie when the droop initially started.
@thatmatty231guy
@thatmatty231guy 2 года назад
Hello! That’s awesome :) …. OK so it sounds like the strut is leaking, where is the hissing sound coming from? And is it the back corner or front corner sagging? If it’s where the wheel sags then yep it’ll be the airbag. It won’t be the compressor. 😊
@supercricketfanatic
@supercricketfanatic 2 года назад
@@thatmatty231guy ah ok. The hissing sound is coming from the front driver's side wheel arch, so yeah I think it's the strut itself and nothing to d with compressor/valve body. I bought the Arnot As2300/1 remanufacured units here in the US for $528 US/ea. Hopefully Auckland gets out of lockdown soon!

@@supercricketfanatic The drive side arch (LHD US cars) is where the actually valve block is located too - so that makes in a bit tricky - if its that front left side sagging down, it COULD be then the connection to the strut from the valve block. If you just take that front wheel off and peel back the inner lining you'll see the valve block with clear hoses going to it, you could spray some soapy water on it :) And yes hopefully we do soon! Bit hard working from home with cars needing attention - (and) more importantly trying to stay focused working :)
@supercricketfanatic

@@thatmatty231guy ahh didn't realize they were also located on the LHS. Since I haven't got time to diagnose it this week, I'll probably just give it to a nearby mechanic and see what they say. Although I can distinguish an audible hiss near the wheel vs the compressor pump closer to the front bumper area. That's why I suspect it's the strut itself.
@thatmatty231guy
@thatmatty231guy 2 года назад
@@supercricketfanatic Yea most likely will be - hopefully they can help sort it :) Just get it done this week (sooner rather than later) so your compressor doesn't burn out from running constantly. Cheers!

Hello from Australia great video buddy just a question can you rise the airmatic suspension with that scanner without the car running l have a W211 E550 and l cant start the car because my motor is blown and the suspension is all the way down and it wont go up if you cant start the car
@thatmatty231guy
@thatmatty231guy 3 года назад
Hmmm you probably can mate because I added pressure into the airmatic with the engine off and depressurised it however it’ll probably take a while. Not 100% sure but that may work - howd the motor blow on it?

I have a "visit workshop" airmatic message after replacing a strut and the compressor. Compressor wont kick on when I press the raise button, but will inflate the struts when I manually do it through my foxwell scanner. Any ideas? I am going to replace the valve block to see if that changes anything
@thatmatty231guy
@thatmatty231guy 2 года назад
Hi Luke, yeah that to me sounds like a valve block issue - it has the pressure sensor built into it so that could be faulty itself. So yep replace that and it should work fine. Especially if you've done the compressor already.

@@thatmatty231guy no luck with the valve block. Suspension feels fine while driving no issues, compressor works, new valve block. Still have visit workshop message. Any ideas? going to check the electrical connectors tomorrow on the rear struts

Hi, I have a question for you. What could be the possible problem when the car starts the pump comes on for about 30 sec and then shuts off?
@thatmatty231guy
@thatmatty231guy Год назад
I think it has a 30 second failsafe from memory. So there is something possibly leaking / loosing pressure … does the car sag down or anything? Could be a small leak between the pump and the valve block or valve block and pressure reservoir. Otherwise if the car sags then it’s likely a airbag leak or leak in connection to that airbag.
@tommietaylor2668
@tommietaylor2668 Год назад
@@thatmatty231guy the car sags on all four, I’ll check for leaks and see what I come up with
@thatmatty231guy
@thatmatty231guy Год назад
@@tommietaylor2668 ok I’d say in that case could be your valve block then, maybe a partially stuck open valve - they can corrode over the yeads

did u fix it? be cause now i have that problem and i don't know what is the problem! i just Checked all thing and there was nothing leaking! the pump is turn on for 15 sec then its shut off

@@AS.MA_ on mine I believe the rear bags have a hole in them. If the bags are leaking badly, the pump automatically shuts off to avoid burning up
