Taking the Mercedes 300E model in 1986, AMG turned it into a monster with the M119 V8 engine, and in 1990 signed an official agreement with Mercedes. Now AMG had become an official modification company from Mercedes. In addition, Mercedes and AMG would develop vehicles together, AMG modified vehicles could be sold at Mercedes dealers and could also use authorized service points.
The first real fruit of the union came in 1993 with the Mercedes W202 chassis C36 AMG. However, in 1992, a very special application was made for the 500E model. This time, AMG took its hand to the 500E, seriously strengthening the vehicle, making it a faster vehicle than the 340ps E34 M5. In other words, the legend of Hammer was realized under the eyes of Mercedes, in a controlled manner, under the 957 code in the production process of Mercedes himself.
The official collaboration between Mercedes and AMG was formalizing itself on the 500E model with the code 957. Vehicles with this package were now called E60 AMG instead of 500E. The VIN Data Card equivalent of the 957 code was referred to as "AMG Engineering Package". Only 150 vehicles with only 957 codes were produced.
On the other hand, some of the 500E owners handed over their vehicles to the skilled hands of AMG, and they had their modifications on the E 60 AMG model. Although many vehicles were converted in this way, none of them had the code 957. For this reason, in the chassis number query (VIN Decoder), the 957 on the vehicle's data card shows that we are facing an original E 60 AMG model. For other vehicles, the original E60 AMG cannot be called.
