The eqe suv is certainly not a small SUV. Nor should you feel cramped inside. What you do get is a curved dashboard feel at the corners but leg room and head it’s great.
I have sold my Tesla Model X after using it for three years, Now i have the EQS 580 ❤ I really love it soo much more than Tesla X. You mentioned that regenerative braking doesn't stop in EQS !! this information is not correct you just need to go to the setting and disable the Creep mode and the car will stop completely when braking. The cup holder at the back set is there you just need to press it one more time and it will come out . Range in EQS is 600 to 650 km , i don't know from where you got your data ?!! . Don't understand me wrong , i love Tesla but after using EQS for one year ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bJ4EoTpRM1E.html i can say it is better than Tesla in many things. One of the thing i hated in My Tesla was the Falcon Wings doors, it is really dangerous for Children, it bumped my head several times and my mother too, it is not a practical doors, you have to be careful every time some one enter the car. the Range was 400Km 👎 the cargo space is good when folding the back sets but if you brake !!! all the staff and the grocery will fly to you to the front set !!!. the HEPA filter in Tesla is not good as the EQS.
Great comments. 100% agree about the Falcon doors. Overall I love my X but the doors alone are a bigger flaw than any single thing mentioned regarding the EQS.
@@GusJohnson-b3walso the windows… cant stand them in LA. Taking accutane right now and a week ago I drove out to Ventura which was a 2 hour ride in my friend’s model X, my skin was boiling from the sun, the sunshade is… abysmal, what a trash car
i know the EQS is a quality built vehicle but I'm with the Model X all the the way. The EQS seems like it's on the verge of gimmicky with all the buttons and gauges. And the ambient lighting, while cool at first blush, would start to drive me nuts pretty quickly. As a current 3 and Y owner who aspires to an X, I'll stay on my current path. Great vid by the way!
i have driven some 11 flagships from BMW and Benz in last 23 years .. EQS hands down is the best thing i have ever driven and so much so that we bought 2 in 18 days by Trading our almost new ICE cars.. Tesla is not even a consideration in our household for being too bland and not well built..
Model X all the way. Wanted to like the EQS, but too many buttons, limited range, cargo space, and no 6 seat version are some of the deal breakers for me.
Thanks for the review, Kim. For $107K there are too many disappointments. Mercedes clearly has loaded the car with WOW features in order to make up for the lack of what make it a really desirable car. My first disappointment is having to purchase through a Mercedes dealership. (Ugh!) 285 mile range is a non-started for road trips which is strange since it is a very quiet riding car. CCS charging network dependency is also a big negative for road trips. They also put the charge port on the wrong side for future access to Tesla Superchargers. No frunk and small cargo volume tells me the EQS is an ICE crossover (not a clean slate design) A start button is an indication of non-integrated electronics. Portrait screen is not optimal for real-time information display. Lack of tech features like camping mode, sentry mode, Navigate on Autopilot, internet, games, FSD, etc. Some people will be attracted by the heightened sense of luxury, and you can call me a snob, but to my way of thinking, a car without a built in chauffeur is not a luxury automobile.
EQS is a clean slate EV design, but from a company still on the learning curve on how to package EV technology. Same problem with BMW, the X5 has more cargo room than the clean slate EV design iX.
Your first disappointment says it all. And honestly for luxury and tech you won’t beat it. A bit of substance would have went a long way with your comment. Just say not for me….rsther than putting down dealerships who are infact very helpful.
Both have sufficient technology and creature comforts to be rated as good EVs. EQS' sunroofs that can open and close plus the sunshades and ordinary four doors place it above Tesla Model X on my scale of preference.
Since we live in the Midwest, range is essential. I would like a quieter ride than my Model X, but I love the large space in the X to haul yard stuff. I’ll stick with the X!
@@bitkahunaIt is, been driving a Model Y, and my range is way better than what they claim. Also all electric vehicles have range issues of some sort, sometimes when it's cold your range degrades.
Thank you for this detailed trip. Since MB is switching and adding the charging capabilities, I would say the Benz. MB and Tesla have been partners from the beginning. It is always great when companies work together, and then hopefully, it benefits us at the end. Thanks again.
I dont understand why TEsla cannot give us rear cross traffic alert and 360 cameras for parking. All basic items other companies give us and they have less cameras.
It would've been better if you mentioned about the EQS automatic comfort doors in the front and rear. Closing can also be controlled by gesture via the optional MBUX Interior Assistant. I see most of the people in the comments section are talking about the model x automatic doors. Great review by the way!
I know it’s an EV comparison but for me the question that should be asked is EQS vs GLS. The Model X is simply the better EV, the EQS is the better luxury car. But at that price is being an OK very expensive electric (EQS) better than being a Great ICE vehicle (GLS)? Ultimately I think the EQS in the next 3-5 years will be an amazing choice for both luxury AND Ev needs.
Good to hear about the 3W liners. It's hard to find products that are eco-friendly and non-toxic that you can put in your car, especially mats. We'll have to check them out!
Great comparison video, however if you opt for the hyper screen it has way more tech than the model x. Either way the rear seat cupholders if you double push on the as you said pen holder it will come out to reveal 2 cup holders. It’s a fabulous vehicle.
Nice review. EQS has a lot more space (leg space) than Model Y or Model X, so no comparison there. Also the range is estimated at 285, but you will get 350+ actual range on it in city driving, where as Tesla is the opposite.
Air doesn't go through the grille because there's no engine to cool therefore it's not needed. It would just create more drag. Those lines are probably for looks and maybe aerodynamics.
Excellent and honest review. Great job. I like the tech in Tesla but hate the customer service I bought 4 teslas starting with my Very Orange Tesla Roadster #796. And 3 model S. Probably my last. Very disappointed in FSD. 11.4.4 sucks. The fact that you can never call anyone. When I started with Tesla I had the numbers and contact info for the head of service and Battery development. Now I can’t talk to someone in Reception at a local service center.
These old OEMs are completely indoctrinated into old stuff. Artificial engine noise? Really? These people are Insane! I will certainly not buy this overpriced hyped up useless outdated vehicle... Waiting for my CyberTruck...
The outside is so boring and yet the interior is so stylish. I think the extra ~$10k over the Model X is to pay for all the rgb lighting 😅 It does look very cool though. I still think the Model X wins for me in most categories but I do believe that ride quality improvements for the Model X and S would really take them to that next level.
As always a great review that talks about real life with kids. A lot of things with limited use. Looks like the back of my car when going on a trip. Do love the ambient lighting.
Great review. Now I know the Model X is overpriced. ( Sorry Tesla fans). Cabin quality and craftsmanship of the EQS is so well done. It's like a Sheraton bedroom compared to Tesla's Motel 6. The battery pack is the only well worthy advantage IMO. If you have a family, 0-60 times is not a factor either.
Yes, great review. My suspicions were correct. So happy I’m not paying for “luxury” but for performance, practicality and piece of mind. It will take much more than a fancy grill and flashy interior to give up these.
Tesla has a way better battery pack, and better range overall. Also gets you access to the supercharging network, which is years ahead of CCS. Also more storage, and ease of use.
I have not driven the EQS or any other MB EVs. But I testdrove a new Model X and was surprised at how noisy it still is as well as the poor ride quality despite having air suspension with the improvements from the Raven upgrade. Very disappointed in the X. (And of course the Model Y noise and ride are even worse.)
@@bavariancarenthusiast2722 I tried the EQE SUV and agree that it was very quiet, fairly comfortable, and has decent performance. The trim I drove was not very exciting, and the ride was a bit unsettled.
You videos are always terrific, and point out the things I am interested in knowing without digressing into unnecessary details. I got a 2023 Model X three weeks ago, after driving a Y and a 3. I aim very happy with the car's upgrades from the Y. While the Mercedes is interesting, I think I would find all the buttons and lights distracting. I love the clean look of all Teslas, and don't ever want to have to deal with buttons again. I can, however, understand how the Mercedes' features would be more entertaining for people with kids. Isn't it wonderful that we are getting to the point where there are more and more options for electric vehicles? Keep up the good work!
@@mikeni1225 yes it has a safety function. The lighting all pulses red when another car is in your blind spot or you trynopening a door into oncoming traffic or bikes
Fair and fun experiential comparison. The service dictates of my 2016 Model X has been, and still is, impersonally mean and cruel. I' will next opt for the EQS,: because preferentially, a sales/service PESON conversational interaction and negotiation is worth it, for an old guy like me.
If you’re an “old guy” Then I guess no internet for you. Go back to rotary telephones. And hit the library when you want information. Every tesla appointment I had they came to my house. That seems to be service to me?
The app of Tesla is better. You can’t start the EQS with the MB app. With Tesla app, you can drive even without the fob (key on MB version, you must have the key to start your eqs). You can open your home garage with the Tesla app. But not MB app.
Tesla Fan here and sold 2018 Model X and replaced it with EQS 450 4Matic. No complaints. Things I miss…. No Frunk in the EQS. Otherwise EQS is better in every way. Thing I don’t miss. The FWD on the X are a disaster and not family friendly for our needs. Try parking the X in a parking garage, you’ll soon realize FWD doors will not open all the way and having access to kids in the back seat is impossible. Still have my 2018 Silver Model 3 and will keep it until I upgrade to the S.
Great review! Really day-to-day perspective which is very refreshing. For me its not a real comparison - the EQS much higher quality and superior in any way - except if you need the Tesla charging network (which will Mercedes use now as well), which would be a deciding factor for me. Since I live in Europe with a good CCS network - it's not a deal breaker for me. The EQS is a luxury car- the X is an appliance and people mover, for what it is - the X is way too expensive.
Let’s put it in this way: Europeans can’t match tesla in where it matters the most for vehicle - the power train and have to resort to becoming some upholstery maker with some fancy leds, wallpaper it ‘luxury’ to impress the uninformed.
@wsu8568 you can speak for yourself! I'm an American and having had the pleasure of both, I chose the EQS. It makes the tesla feel like a cheap Chinese knockoff. The tesla was not a bad vehicle but if you factor in the price point it kinda is for what you actually get. The only cool aspect about the X was the rear doors, the kids love it! Other than that it did not feel as special as the EQS.
We’ve owned two Tesla model S since 2017. Tesla really isn’t a luxury car like Mercedes. Therefore, we have the EQS 580 for 2nd home. There’s a lot to love about MB such as hyperscreen that spans entire dashboard. Rear wheel steering provides a very short turning radius and bird’s eye camera makes parking very easy avoiding curb rash. Massage, sunroof, ambient lighting, quietness, pillows, & fragrance really pampers all occupants. My sedan is getting 375-400 mi range and one pedal driving is almost as good as Tesla. Adaptive cruise control is better than Tesla with lane changing as standard. On the negative side, I hate the start/stop button and there’s no walk away auto locking. Lack of a frunk is disappointing. DC fast charging is only 200 kW and AC charging only 9.6 kW.
@@ramonorlando7124 Absolutely not, we love the car. In fact, we returned a Lucid GT after 3 weeks of driving due to bugs and bought the EQS. No car is perfect, so there’s room for improvement.
Thank you for the really detailled comparison! 😃👍 You have an American viewpoint. Interesting, but don't forget it's a German car. The operational concept is a bit oriented to German habits and to the habits and expectations of Mercedes owners. Just turn the time 20 years back and imagine you'd compare a Mercedes coupé vs. a Dodge Charger or Chevrolet Camaro. Completely different concepts for different people with different habits in mind. 😉 That's the interesting in globalisation: most people can choose what they like to purchase depending on their taste. And thanks to internet and RU-vid that everyone can make an informed decision. You gave your good share in helping people making a decision! 😃👍
The EQS is the superior car. Feel free to like the tesla, but it is objectively worse. Built quality, cabin noise, service is all better. Subjectively (for me) the EQS is a luxury car, the Tesla X is what some think a luxury car is. Nitpicking but the "pen holder" is a cup holder, double press to extend it. There is a sub-trunk.
4:36 You can seamless put a gas car driver inside and it can start without any instruction.... Seen that way, a former Mercedes Gas Driver can start with no problem ^^
Nice car but doesnt look very sporty. Looks like any other regular car. For that amount of money It should look a little more sporty. The lights inside are cool but after a month off playing with that they become boring. Just my opinion..
Does the EQS need regular servicing ? I may be cynical but Old schoolCar manufacturers are likely to nail you after you buy it with expensive servicing as they have done for decades. No servicing is still one of the many things I love about my Teslas.
This car looks INCREDIBLE.. but I'd be most interested when I'm going on a road trip.. and at that point.. no way. I'll take Tesla for the supercharging network all day long. Once they implement NACS, it becomes a viable option IMO.
Ambient lighting takes away from your night vision in a big way. Especially that one. As cool as it looks I’d never have it on. I don’t even use the tesla one.
That is simply not true. You adjust each zone to the brightness you like, and it is not even close to distracting. Only someone who has not driven an eqs at night would suggest that
As an owner of each, I was bemused by the early comment that if you want tech by the X and luxury buy the EQS. Thats just wrong. The EQS has way more tech than the tesla. The autopilot, wipers, handling, parking camera’s, voice system, headlights are all vastly superior in the eqs. The ambiant lighting is a fantastic as a safery feature. Open your door with a car coming behind you and watch the alerts. As for range…if you are a user like me with days between drives, the eqs has far more range than the x. The x looses so mich power just when just sitting around.
Mercedes needs to get off their high horse and leave ICE design cues behind. So much wasted space and materials, and goofy design choices (external port for wiper fluid, a start button, and artificially limited regen) Legacy autos are way out of touch
i just got my Model X a week ago, and what i noticed is the wind noise on the highway... on side streets the model x is quiet.. but, as soon as i go on the highway and go to 60-70 miles per hour, there is significant wind noise... i guess my Tesla was not well insulated for high speed driving... i wonder if this is something Tesla can fix ....
Great review! If you turn off the creep function the car will come to a complete stop without hitting the breaks on strong recuperation. If you give the back seat pen holder a second light push it will slide all the way out into a cup holder.
It’s… just not great UI design for such a premium brand. I guess the “glass toy” icons work for some demographics, but it just feels like automakers are the last to leave the skeuomorphic aesthetic in the dust. The RGB strip LEDs everywhere makes it feel more like a gaming rig than a luxury SUV.
20:37 Because there are many not so attentive people on this world and having a car turn on simply when you get in might result in some issues. In addition, not everytime you get into the car you would actually want to drive it somewhere.
Yuu should try an EQS with the Hyperscreen. Will give you more tech and also remove the piano black center console. If the size of the EQS is too much, the EQE SUV is also great.
I love my EQS Suv. Smooth ride and the lighting and technology is amazing. I’ve also had a Tesla and even with the few advantages it had. The EQS ride quality and interior feel is leagues ahead and I would never go back to a Tesla.
After this video, and having visited the Mercedes website (again)... I believe for an SUV I prefer the Model X over the EQS. However, I might prefer the S-Class Sedan from Mercedes over the Model S.
Ahh, the EQS 450 is nice and so much superior to the Tesla - but wait you really need to review the EQS 580. There is no comparison there, night and day - Mercedes quality and luxury outstrip Tesla. Charging, I have no problem charging my 580 at Electrified America (EA), I took a trip from Phoenix to Charlotte North Carolina and had no issue charging (great network). I saw several Tesla charging on EA even though there was a Tesla charging station not more than 5 miles away (?). Best though the trip was free as Mercedes gives you 2 years of free charging (with 30 minute sessions). Another differentiator - Hyper screen, it's awesome, one screen across the entire dash, look beautiful. O can go on and on, love my EQS 580!
4:19 No thanks! I love my Tesla model y and cannot imagine having to turn the car on and off. I like getting into my Tesla and it being ready to go. So seamless and effortless!
So you’re telling us you’ve never had a better car? I drove a 2018 Raptor in high school, back then i thought it was the best thing in the world until I got my hands on a GLS580 in sophomore year of college. Two months ago i went back to Shanghai and rode in my dad’s Maybach.. all i can say is you need to experience different things to enjoy life instead of living in a bubble
Unless you love dealing with dealerships, Tesla all the way. The dealerships will find ways to make the maintenance of EQS comparable to ICE, if not most likely more.
Tesla called me and sold me the car. I picked it up in a dirty dusty transport yard, and do at least 5 trips each year to the big stinking hot tin shed (with zero bathroom facilities) to fix tesla issues. I get updates almost weekly to fix tesla’s last updates, and I cannot actually call anyone to discuss how the regular warranty repairs are going on the failure proned car. Yep, I’ll take the accountable dealership back. Over the tesla stupidity.
The reason Mercedes and other age old auto makers have all possible 'bells and whistles' is to have them break and suck out customers money for fixing them.
Being a R1S owner and have driven Model X, I prefer R1S more. R1S & MX are more practical for family with kids where EQS SUV is more for adults. Level-3 autonomy, HUD, rear wheel turning, ambient light, massage option and quiet cabin are basically new hallmark of Mercedes Benz brand.
Although I have range anxiety but I have been considering going EV. I am Mercedes Benz, only buyer/driver, NACS is what I've been waiting for. Next year, I will be getting the EQS 580. I have to decide between the sedan and the SUV. Tesla may have created the EV revolution, but I think the legacy manufacturers will not only catch up, but they will eat away Tesla market share. Tesla knows this, which is why they are allowing other manufacturers to share their network. The real revenue will be in the charging. Imagine if ExxonMobil made cars and distributes specialty gas at their gas stations. Which is more profitable, ExxonMobil or GM?
I love my Tesla, but it's nice seeing videos of the competition. I have so many family and friends that would rather by an ICE car or a non-Tesla than support Elon.
Good review. You are testing the lowest level EQS SUV. No Hyperscreen, and the worst looking body kit available. I own the EQE and EQE SUV (Wife's) at the level you reviewed because that is what I wanted. With that said it makes the comparison very one sided and not completely accurate. It is a fun conversation though. My Sister-in-law has a Model Y and it is what made me go electric. Also double tap the rear cup holder so it comes all the way out.
There's no amount of luxury that trumps auto presenting and closing doors, auto pilot that can take you around the city, or the thrill of 2.5 second 0-60 on demand
Tesla interior does look super cheap esp the dashboard and seats. I only like its speedy performance and onscreen features. Took my gf to both dealers last week, Tesla and Mercedes. At the end she said no to Tesla. Lol. For the low quality components Tesla put in their prices should be lower. They are making way too much money. MB Ev prices are also high 😮
