Ironically, the smartest student in the class is also the one who is the most willing to share stuff with the public. Well done, Mercedes. You guys deserve all the glory.
They aren't sharing anything that everyone else doesn't already do or know. Some of you people are really easily impressed, to a hilarious level. I wonder how you'd react if they actually started talking about real engineering, and not this superficial stuff meant to impress 8 year olds, he's literally only showing you buttons on a steering wheel, there's absolutely nothing even remotely special about it.
They really said nothing in this video, most of this can be applied to every team on the grid. The true secrets are to do with the development of the car.
They are the team to beat, the overpowered big bad villain that the underdog teams needed to overcome in their hero journey, the reason why races are boring according to many people. I think this is an effort by the Mercedes to build up a more fan friendly image.
@BeyerT1 Wow, I don’t know what happens to you haters these days. Apparently, everyone knows they’re just showing and explaining the buttons on a god damn steering wheel, but do you really think that we, the normal audience, already knew about every detail of the car and the equipment of every team??? Yeah, there’s no secret technology being exposed here, but at least the majority of F1 fans get to take a closer look at what they usually can’t see clearly during live races. People’s curiosity got somewhat satisfied. Isn’t it entertaining? Isn’t it why you choose to watch races rather than take a damn nap? If people are glad to see this kind of “easy” videos being uploaded on RU-vid, then why the bloody hell are other teams not trying to do such an “easy” marketing? Oh..., I forgot that they’re all busy building a midfield car. Don’t pretend like you’re the only one with a brilliant brain.
Imagine in the middle of race, you press all that cheat button, and suddenly wings came out from left and right side and has turbo jet engine and you begin fly out of race track
Just a little secret, they never tell you: the driver actually receives audio feedback when clicking some buttons. For example, when changing the brake balance there is an audio sound to tell them the setting it is in. Stuff like the gear they are in they get that audio feedback from the engine sound directly, but for other stuff this is how it avoids them having to look at the steering wheel all the time. Now you know!
Custom F1 steering wheels Grosjean steering wheel : has crash button ,and ericcson blame switch Vettel steering wheel : has auto spin feature Kimi steering wheel : has cup holder Maldonado steering wheel : has an apocalypse guaranteed self-destruct red button ( not meant to be used anytime but its there )
@@zippofire8550 all teams have probably catched up by now so I guess it doesn't matter that much. They didn't share any important info either, they know what to show and what not to.
I can barely take my eyes off the road to change temperature on the climate control or change the radio station! Its mind blowing how these guys can fiddle with brake balance, strat modes, diff settings when everything is moving so fast around you. Amazing.
If you have your car for like a year then you should be able to adjust the radio or AC without looking. Just by feel and knowing how the layout of the dash is. Most modern cars have all these controls in the steering wheel.
I'm not an automobile or a mechanical engineer but I love to hear all the great things from experts like you Mercedes team is doing an absolutely amazing job to teach their fans about F1.
Probably near the end of the season since it will be outlawed next year. They don't want to give other teams insight in case they're developing their own version.
Check Chainbear's channel. I'm pretty certain he's done it. He's got a phenomenal channel explaining virtually everything. Highly recommended for F1 fans.
The more I learn about F1, the more amazed I am with the talent, technology, difficulty, and danger involved in racing. And I thought setting the cruise control and adjusting the radio while driving was dangerous. These guys are freaks of nature. Thanks for a really fun video from a new fan.
Ferrari actually has an even more complex steering wheel compared to everyone else on the grid! Just have a look at the number of dials & buttons they have on that wheel!
He is so professional and passionate about his work It is not only about the driver it is the whole team that makes it possible. Like the engineering is very important.🔥 Good work guys 👍❤️
Almost never. And that’s why I’m slowly becoming more and more of a Mercedes fan. I used to be so bored of their dominance (still am), but their human rights activism and open education to fans is really cool. I hope Toto doesn’t leave at the end of the year like it’s rumored.
How can you not love Mercedes after these sort of educational fun videos. It gives me feeling that Mercedes care about their fans around the world and wanted to educate us about technological advancement of our beloved sport. Thank you Mercedes.
I swear when I was just getting into F1, I was told the bottom of the car and the steering wheel setup were the two biggest things teams try to hide from each other. Therefore this feels like Merc is saying to the other teams: "Just take our secrets! Then maybe you guys will become real competition.". . .I am just saying that this is a top class flex and is another reason why I love this team.
In the past this was certainly true. Today the electronics are all regulated so there isn't much physical trickery going on. That doesn't completely stop programming trucks like Renault (was that last year?).
Regarding suspension systems, how does a modern F1 system work and what are some aspects of it that are bleeding edge for translation from racing-to-road technologies?
It takes a whole lot of confidence to openly admit and own up to when things go wrong. There are a few teams out there who should take a page out of your book. Kudos!
I don't they will let out too much details about those things... It will differ from team to team and it really gets so technical that it is hard to grasp it all , even for F1 enthusiast who is having technical background.... Another issue is of proprietary related... And that's why every team is so secretive about it... Although, if you want to learn about How software and sensors are deployed on a modern F1 car, you can look up for a webinar hosted by Indian researcher who worked building Naval ships... I forgot his name but will put a link here if it comes to my mind
he mentioned there's a CAN bus??? I want to know this too, like how is F1 systems different from a normal car. I wouldn't be surprised if that CAN bus was something different.
@@uptorest CAN bus is the communication system used by all modern cars. I doubt it's any different expect possibly being wider and/or faster. I am interested in how they make the connection from when to column though
i find this so interesting to learn about because the wheels are actually so complicated and I think it’s amazing how easily the drivers use these throughout the race
As a fan I can say that the steering wheel is the most fascinating aspect of the F1 car. Its small compared to the chassis itself but the steering wheel has to be perfectly made because the driver uses it for so many functions. Its amazing what Mercedes continue to do
@@olivierl2172 yeah you might be able to but it would be something like its round, very round did you know you can turn it, both ways not one also there is a horn in the middle, both middles
Well, they're essentially the same on all steering wheels in that all of them have two shift-paddles, and two clutch-paddles, although RP has separate paddles above the shifters for adjusting brake balance, and some other drivers on the left-hand side for operating DRS.
They 3D print the clutch pedals to fit the fingers of each driver perfectly, you can see Hamilton and Bottas have slightly different levers when they use the camera behind the steering wheel during races.
LTA Headphones wow that’s a fascinating detail i never noticed, see their shifters r kindve like on a pivot which surprise me cuz surely it would feel strange
Thank you for sharing this. I was always curious about the steering wheel and what role it played in an F1 car. It is a bit more than I was expecting it to do. Love y'alls behind the scenes and technical explanations. The question I have is regarding the wheels and wheel gun. I heard that they are on and off in the same direction. How is that possible?
Engineering/Electronics Marvel. TeamToto is an Inspiration! Keep Fighting for Victory no matter what they Try to Do to Stop you. You Deserve to Dominate F1. You've been Doing a Better Job than the Others.
I see the clutch pedal is 3D printed, I assume Carbon Fiber reinforced PA or just raw PA12? In that case, the same as my headphones, nice to see I can hold F1-level materials in my hands. 😉
@@bleb2771 Hi, it is what I do. Contact me through my website contact form or through email (small mail icon at the bottom of the website pages) if you're interested and we'll see what can be done.
I can't believe Mercedes are actually showing the back of the steering wheel - the part of the wheel, as Evan said, teams keep in Level 9000 confidentiality. Mega respect. Explanation was on point too. He should feature in the debriefs some time.
Merc is actually doing a great job for the fans o know more about f1 cars thanks a lot merc for sharing this and the dude is pretty chill and energetic
Hand down one of the only team put this much of positive videos for thir fans - Hats off Mercedes - Hats off - Anyways can you do a video on how your pits stop work ? and how you manage do do it so quickly ?
Why would they? Everyone knows it's there and what it does. Hell, they can even explain how it works in detail, considering it's gonna be banned next year anyway =D
Just what I needed after this day to make it a bit better. Formula video + listening to the music I like (Delta Parole, Metallica and other) make me feel the speed and excitement!
