Great work as usual! Do you know about the function of the valve that lets air in when the fuel cap is closed? Does it allow air to come in only as the fuel gets burnt, or does it also release increased pressure? Pressure built up in my fuel tank when the temperature increased recently and caused a leak. I wonder if the valve is not working correctly... Thanks!
Hello Paul, thanks for the comment. During rebuild I checked this valve and it allows air into the tank (one direction). During this video I performed some pressure tests of my new inlet to see if there were any leaks. At first I did it with fuel neck and cap closed. When I applayed some pressure - not much like < 1bar I have instantly heard big whistling from under the closed cap (both the cap and neck were brand new piceked them just days before, so the seal behind the cap is new as well) So what I try to say is that closed cap is not like 100% sealed with neck, it looks like it has some room to let the pressure out.
OK, this is great, thanks! My W463 has been off the road for years, so maybe the cap just needed to be broken free. I'll investigate some more. Thanks again for the information!
