2270-4 "at least one of the glow plugs is not actuated" Hard Start while cold. and check engine light for glow plug controller.
I ran a few tests to see the health of the glow plugs and I determined that it was best to replace all the glow plugs on this OM642 V6 Diesel engine in my dad's Mercedes ML320 CDI.
You can find them on the amazon affiliate in the link below!

Hi, Your video is superb and very detailed. I have a few questions just to sort of summarise. What are the torque values for the glow plugs? What is the paste you're using on the connectors ? Most diesel engines seem to have some sort of horror story in regards to plugs snapping, it would seem that with a good penetrative fluid and a warm block they come right out. Thank you again.

Thank you for watching! The torque values are about 14 Ftlbs on the glow plugs. this may differ for some but that's what I found as the recommended. its not much! The paste on the glow plugs themselves is copper anti- sieze - amzn.to/3RStDES The paste on the glow plug wires/connectors is 'dielectric grease' amzn.to/3taxTFx Glow plugs are a mixed bag. most of the time with a Steel head or a really rusty engine they can get really bad, and with soot build up on the tip or melted tips they can be quite a headache to remove. But this engine is an aluminum head and has very little corrosion so they all came out just fine, I think getting to them while they are hot is a really good way to do it. The anti-seize should also help if there is ever a next time.

@MalarkeyTaylor Hi, Finally, I got around to replacing the glow plugs and relay. Such a simple & and straightforward task, well apart from cylinder 6, a little tight to get the socket in and plug connector back on. I used seafoam penetrant spray, and it really really helped. As you suggested, I took the car out for 30 minutes to get some real heat in the block. Thank you again.

Nice work...Gonna do the same thing next week .What is the grease you are using?Thanks

Oh, That's not grease, That's copper based anti-seize (can be found here amzn.to/3GIVJvv ) This is to help prevent any corrosion or difficulty getting them back out later in its life.

Have you tried your Autel on the ISM module? If so, what is the extent of its functionality? Considering buying one but I wanted to make sure it has decent functionality for MB vs being more generic. Cheers

I have used it to control and test a few different modules on the car. But I have not had a need yet to see if it can control the ISM. Overall it has been able to view and read almost all the info I’ve needed so far.

@@MalarkeyTaylor okay, so it's definitely a good alternative to buying one of the Xentry or star systems that are sold on AliExpress etc? I just recently had the ISM issue on my 2007 ML350 so I'm trying to figure out what to get/invest in versus spending the same amount or more to bring it in and have somebody do the same thing for me. Cheers

@@SaultiBalldeip I have not tried the xentry knock off systems from Ali, I get the impression they can do more but also run the risk of being unable to use them if they somehow got unlicensed. This autel can do A LOT. like controlling the turbo and lights and testing functions. I would say it's likely to be able to read the system. the only things it can't seem to do is re-key the car, or TPMS sensors. and it doesn't seem like it can modify the TRP settings for theft relevant parts. but over all I'm pleased with its function.

Why did you place the controller ?
@MalarkeyTaylor
@MalarkeyTaylor Год назад
The controller voltage has to match the glow plug voltage. There are some after market glow plugs that run a higher voltage than the factory ones. I was not sure when i started what voltage the old plugs were, so I bought a kit that included the controller and all 6 plugs so I would not have any compatibility issues.
