These engines are Under Rated stock HP is a claimed 288HP and Tq325. In reality it’s more like 320-330hp and 360-370tq These trucks weigh 5000lbs and hit 60mph in 6.5-6.7 sec. that’s identical times as first gen Jeep Cherokee with Hemi rated at 345hp 360tq. Keep in mind the JGC weigh 400lbs LESS. Both use the SAME transmission so.... Mercedes is known for under rating power figures for some reason. In 2004 Motor trend said the Mercedes E500 (same engine as Ml500) rated at 300hp felt much more powerful then the mustang or Camaro of the time rated at 335hp. Don’t believe me google E500 motor trend....
Personally I Love my ML430. It’s rated(under rated) at 268hp but I removed the cats for a single set of high flow cats and flowmaster mufflers and its probably a bit over 300hp now. Neck and neck with wife’s 2008MDX rated at 300hp and that thing is 250lbs lighter with a 6speed trans vs my 5speed I would take a ML500 they are faster but, not much and I have spent $$$ getting my 2000 ML430 all sorted out with the common issues all addressed already. 180k miles and good for another 50-100k I bet
I had a 2001 ML500 and my friend had a ML430. Drove his many times. Didn’t notice much power difference at all. Like running cheap Gas in my 500. Also driven a ML55 many many times. Didn’t notice much difference their either. If I’d jump the 55 at a stop light he wouldn’t catch up before the next Light….
I believe you on that one.I thought I was the only that felt like it had more horsepower than Mercedes says it does.I’m thinking more like 325 horses and the ml55 (345 hp)is a fraction faster than the ml500 (288hp)but has 57 more horsepower
Compared to the ML 500, It has a 5.0-liter V8 engine, producing around 288 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque and It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.7 seconds. your ML 430 that a 4.3-liter V8 gas engine, producing around 268 horsepower and 288 lb-ft of torque and 0-60 mph time of approximately 7.7 seconds.
I use to own a gold and tan interior 2003 ML 350 brand new for 43k in 2003 and that thing was SOOO slugish getting up to speed. but when it hit around 60 or so it MOVEDed but the lower end it did not and braking was Vary heavy as well.
