Dijak is underrated in my opinion. I LOVED his work in NXT when he having BANGERS against Keith Lee in 2019 and 2020. Hopefully he can be in some good feuds on the Main Roster and become champion
I called Mercedes mid and was told she wasn't. It was only an opinion, but seeing comments here it feels safe here, lmao Are you doing wrestle sketch on this channel as well? You should do something about the king/queen tournament
Mercedes is overrated. But imo, the thing that Sasha had that puts her above Mercedes is the star power around her. Sasha was surrounded by people that were household names. Even when Sasha fought Bianca, who was still somewhat new to the main roster, was already developing into a star. No disrespect to the ones that Mercedes has wrestled after leaving WWE. They’re good in-ring, but the aura of seeing two (or several) actual stars inside the ring is undeniable. It’s foolish for any company to expect one signing to turn the tables/carry an entire division on her own. Especially since it was already proven to be a bad investment after Paige/Saraya was signed & people started saying “Saraya was gonna turn the tables for the women’s division.”
@@kazkaze2456 Buddy, I never said Mercedes doesn’t have star power. What I said is the DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE PEOPLE AROUND HER THEN vs NOW. It’s no secret that she’s a star. That’s why she got all those roles/projects outside of wrestling. But it’s not realistic and fair for those that kept saying “Oh, AEW’s women’s division is about to be better because they signed Mercedes” to expect her to carry an entire division. Admittedly, lately AEW has built some stars in their women’s division like Toni and Willow. But, the star level is just a whole ‘nother level in WWE because they’re the bigger brand & has more exposure.
@@kazkaze2456 I agree with both of your points. AEW’s women’s division has improved since around the time Mercedes was coming in the company. My issue is the people pushing this narrative that by signing 1 person, everything will be better. AEW still has to build stars and maintain their momentum. I also agree w/ your point that WWE’s women’s division has seen a less amount of time in recent times. But it’s still a fact that the talent that several talents that they have in that division has undeniable name value. And WWE has the resources to utilize those names & talent for the benefit of their brand. Jade being the latest example.
@@kazkaze2456 Again, I agree w/ your first 2 points. AEW not translating well w/ ratings & attendance is a bit of a “little too late” situation but that doesn’t mean they can’t turn it around. The people taking the blame is not only Mercedes but also every & any new “big” signings they make ‘cause of unrealistic expectations from fans. It’s smart for any company to use their star’s name value to elevate others. My issue is that TK waited ‘til he signed Mercedes to raise the stocks of his women’s roster. On the “Mercedes is overrated” part, and this is just my perspective, Mercedes/Sasha was always great in-ring. Always loved seeing her work. It’s just that… I’m not a fan of how she does her promos & her character work hasn’t always been there unless she’s against people she has history with. So yeah, for me, she just comes off as another great wrestler in a sea of great wrestlers. If everyone’s special, then nobody is type deal, if that makes sense.
The fact that WWE turned sasha into a star is a testament to their system. They hid her obvious weakness on the mic by pairing her with people who can talk and experienced script writers who wrote dialogs for her. She wasn't good on the mic by any means but atleast they made her watchable. In Japan they don't give importance to promo only wrestling is needed, that she was good at so her "aura" remained intact. In AEW there is no script writer, everyone does their own shit so those with lot of good ideas and talent like MJF for example will stand out. The mistake AEW made is letting Mercedes do too much promos and interviews instead of focusing on what she is good at that is wrestling. Without the WWE system behind her she did terrible promo and cringe acting one after another and with each one she got exposed more until her stock completed faded. Hell even Willow, the rookie outshined and got more over than the veteran Mercedes in those segments that is saying something. She would have been better off not saying anything till her match! Now she looks like just another wrestler that is lost in the AEW women's division. It is not completely her fault it's also AEWs fault for not recognizing her obvious strengths and weaknesses.
Thanks for the mention, Matt! It was Too Sweet, for sure. This is a great segment and I'm looking forward to future topics! Wishing you all the best with both channels!!
AEW is overrated mostly because the majority of those rating it (IWC podcasts, journalists, etc) constantly try to excuse and overlook the flaws and overplay or overstate the positives. Also the arrogance displayed by TK and AEW diehards to not only ignore but outright dismiss ANY criticism as hate or Dave Meltzer and TK's favorite phrase "bad faith" or "disingenuous"and focus entirely on that. Instead of ANY acknowledgment of the obvious reality that things as os are not working. Instead, everything is always "great," which ironically is disingenuous. Lol
I don't think they're overrated. Even most AEW fans agree the current product is not what it used to be. Their disinterest shows in the viewership dynamite went from getting 800k-1 million viewers last year to now in the 600k range. Collision and Rampage are doing even worse.
@shadowsmith841 I agree that in reality, they are not overrated, but if you listen to 90% of the IWC podcasts, "journalists," or Cageside ( the folks quite literally doing the rating.) Still constantly attempt to create a narrative of either "but it's really good tho," or the ever present "AEW is back" or just trying to explain away or excuse the immense amount of logic pitfalls. They have been on a downturn for a while, and they still win best show awards for Dynamite and get rated highly still. So, quite literally overrated. Just because reality has become more apparent to some if not most fans doesn't change the fact that they are still overrated by those who do the actual rating and create the narratives.
The only way you can look at some of the ‘’’’’’’’criticism’’’’’’’’ AEW faces online and not think it is bad faith is if you are helping perpetuate the meaningless discourse. Writing 500 word essays over why a five second clip (that no one would ever bring up again if it happened in a different promotion) is the reason why AEW is going to shut down in three years then getting pissy when people don’t accept it as “rEaLiTy” isn’t ‘’’’’’’’criticism’’’’’’’’, it is hate.
Overrated right now for me is Bron Breaker. I want to like him but you can’t keep giving me him running the ropes and doing the spear… it’s giving me Goldberg. I stopped watching NXT a long time again but I will have to check it out to see if he could have longer matches…. For right now I’m giving him the side eye treatment until I see more from him. Overrated.. the spear 😂 to many wrestlers are doing this move… I know there are other finisher moves that can be used than that one. That’s like having everyone do the stunner…it doesn’t feel the same seeing 5 different wrestlers have that same moves in their arsenal.
i don’t think “underrated” is the right word for Roman. i’d say “under appreciated” is probably a better term. but i feel like when he comes back and starts turning face the fans will love him
The bucks have a few issues they arent story tellers, their matches are very if you've seen one youve seen them all. And they came up in an era where their style was not the norm. Now its everywhere. And they are very indy heavy where their matches devalue alot of their offense. False finishes are great people stop buyin inti finishes at all.
Like Mercedes but here's a hot take: She's a woman, Con can hire Manami Toyota in her prime and not even she would make a lick of difference because its the booker, not the talent. Fun fact, I have never watched any roman match more than once until this year with Cody and likely never will. I will say 1 nice thing about part timer roman though...I ain't feeling this new bloodline and I underrated his aura. Now I am sick for completing reigns, take care Matt lol
Moné - She's been kind of boring. It's the same old thing every week. It's a bit worrying I'm bored of her before she's had a match. Too much exposure, maybe? Triple H, imo, is underrated by some fans. Every Batman needs a Joker. A villain on their level. He was THE villain for the likes of Stone Cold and The Rock. To me, people praising Romans run while criticising Triple H's is a bit odd. Matthews/Murphy - Definitely underrated. The dude is built like a warrior. You could see that build in something like God Of War. He is also talented in ring. I've never understood why companies haven't really used him. My main 2k24 character is a mix of him and Malakai. Lots of knees and kicks.
Underrated R-Truth Overrated Cutter/Superkick I find that the cutter now a days it's used way to often, compared to when it was only a finishing maneuver as the Diamond Cutter and RKO. Same can be said for the Superkick, it was something special when Shawn Michaels did it now it's way to over used in my opinion
10:31 I agree with the point, He's not underrated but people sometimes don't appreciate how legit the dude carried the dark times and pushed a lot to this new era
I don't want to pile on Sasha/Mercedes because she has been very good in the ring and her Boss character was really good. But it just feels like AEW is selling her as this incredible legend. Opinions will vary but of the original 4 horsewomen of wrestling, sorry, I still think she is 4th best of that group. That's not an insult. And it is really hard to ignore the fact that she was always either injured or taking time off for some emotional reasons. Reliability matters. My pick for overrated would be Jey Uso. One of the best tag teams in history but as a singles? Yeet is far more over than Jey is. He is just flat out bad on the mic and when he had a chance to shine at Mania with his brother, it was just ehhhh. Jey is not bad. He is just not a "main event" caliber guy. Underrated for me is Chelsea Green. Watching her improve as much as she has over the years... You can tell she put a lot of work into her craft. I pray she does not get lost in the shuffle because the womens division is pretty loaded right now. And from the looks of the women in NXT, it is just going to get more stacked.
Mercedes Mone/Sasha Banks is a great wrestler but I think since she left WWE I think 6 years ago I think she's had about as many matches as Undertaker during that time period
Triple H actually started his heel work... remember he was playing a heel dude? His heel persona started in th beginning of the Millennial in 2000 with the Helmsley McMahon Era from 2000-2002) His second heel work was the birth of the Faction Evolution in 2003-2005) In the mid 2000's. You do realize Triple H was a heel riiight?... one of the greatest heels.
Love Mercedes...loved Banks...but she was under utilized in the E! Since leaving she has been better off...I mean yeah, she's been injured for a while, but she'll come back at DoN and prove she hasn't missed a beat! The great thing about her in NJPW and AEW is that finally she doesn't get cut off on her way to ringside with pointless "foreign language announcer" introductions by Michael Cole...like every damn PPV!
On Mone, one could argue Punk hasn't wrestled much since wwe return for similar reason. I think it comes down to character and deliverance (writing) beyond the ring. Either way, im a fan of both
Sasha Banks has always been massively overrated, mostly by herself and her weird fans. She’s decent enough in ring and looks good (awful dress sense though), but she’s lacking in every other department.
