Thank you. I recently replaced my wiper gear and all was well. But have been noticing the wiper get stuck at low speeds, if i turn off wiper and reset it works again. Maybe the relay or maybe it just needs some grease. Will try this before replacing parts, thanks for the video!
Hello @Pat's Car Garage - Thanks for the helpful video. Could you please offer a more detailed description of how to release the cover from the base? I created a small tool to stick into the two holes, but I don't know how the detent clips work, so I don't know what to manipulate... Thanks again!
The cover holds on to the base from the sides. You can remove it with your fingers, just push it downwards slightly and pull the cover outwards from the little holes. It helps a lot if the plastic is warm, you can leave your parked in the sun to warm it up.
@@PatsCarGarage Thanks! I think my 1992 300TE has a different monowiper in which I have to remove the wiper assembly. There are screws in the back of the base that must be removed first. Thanks again!
Do you know if the big cover piece will come off without screws on a W201? I saw another video where they said you need to remove the whole wiper system
Watched this video today, 2021, after I got my first merc (w202 C180) took it on the snow yesterday, wiper almost stuck in the middle of a snow storm ... Thing is it does a complete circular movement but struggles to extend when it's at the " top " on the windscreen (in same direction as the central inside rear view mirror) - Gonna try this trick
@@joesaric1 sorry but differential oil is a really terrible idea for that. You need something that displaces moisture (and is actually grease, not an oil). Lithium or silicone greases would be best.
the video is fine only that the most important thing is how to remove the large lid, we could not see why you covered with your body and that is what nobody knows how to do it
That's a fair point, I'll be careful how I frame my shots in the future. I'm a one man army doing this, so I do my best. Removing the cover is pretty easy. there are 2 notches under the cover on either side (near the bottom). Feel around for them with your fingers, you pry up on those. New covers come off easy, but older ones get harder / less flexible. So you might need to use a small prying tool to get it open the first time.
Hi I got the cover off with a hook and greased it all up it moves down from the mid point of the windscreen but then stays stuck in the down position If I try to turn back on the wiper blade moves an inch down then up an inch then stays stuck there thx.
If it gave up completely then it sounds like the motor died. Usually when the transmission breaks it stops extending outwards during the stroke, but you still get a circular wiping action which cleans some of the windshield.
It's better to do it before you need it than after! I've had my wiper freeze on me once (it was a crazy -29C outside), I've been doing it once a year just before winter ever since.
So I've heard, had a friend work in BC for a while, he says that all the old cars look pristine because they don't salt the roads. Here in QC they dump a billion metric tons of salt per square meter pf road surface and then wonder why the infrastructures (and cars) implode.
@@PatsCarGarage I saw another video that it shows the coverd has screws underneath the way you show it seems it doesn't have it is just a push in Thanks
@@PatsCarGarage not the same, very difficult to remove the cover. The whole assembly has to be removed from the car and dismantled.Your one is very easy.
