I've owned ours for 9 years! great review! Mercedes extended warranty for most of the common issues like soot particulate sensor and related emissions plus drivetrain for 10 and 3 years respectively. There is no substitute for this 7 seater .

Hi! I want to buy a year 2012 r -350 cdi r-klass. Is it good family car? I have 4 children. Was it expensive to maintain considering it’s a old one now? Have a nice day

We just purchased a 2012 model with just over 100k KM (60k miles) on the clock from an elderly gentleman. As new and a brilliant car. I had always wanted one, but in the past needed higher towing capacity. Loving the 7l/100km on the Highway (33 mpg).

it is the perfect family car. The 4x4 is for the safety, 7 seats in theory but I think when you have up to 3 kids the last seats are down so you have a massive trunk. Its a german car so its Safe and because its a benz it will live up to 400.000 km no problem. Imagine a long roadtrip your kids in the back the wife on the side and that car under the ass.

My first thought was it is a new car for old money. Reliable, safe, comfortable without drawing attention to oneself or your loved ones.. Value over appearance.

Looks like a good upgrade from a Vauxhall Zafira Tourer; which is another estate/suv 7 seater.

fat cat Hi there, this was a 2011 model. We filmed the review a while ago, but we only uploaded it last summer. In answer to your question, however, yes, Mercedes has stopped building the R-Class.

+fat cat That model body style is the 2nd generation R Class (W251), Only the front and rear looks are different beginning 2011. All R are produced in USA factory where they also make ML and GL. It's no longer marketed in USA and Europe, but it's still being produced to be sold in China market. I have a 2008, so I know this well.

Auto Trader Hi , I also think you should have mentioned more about the spec and used a high spec car as these are really good family cars,( radar cruise control , blind spot assist ,multi level suspension, rear heated seats, pre seat tensioner the list goes on and on, on my R class!. Kind Regards

Why would you get this, rather than a high spec'd premium 7 seater SUV. Audi, Volvo, the new discovery......?For ordinary folk needing seats for 7 six footers a Seat Alhambra with the top diesel is more than good enough.

David Hayes Hi David. Seat Alhambra with top 2.0l diesel is good car, but fully load with strong wind is too slow. This Mercedes is strong and fast enought regardless of weight or weather conditions. Also Alhambra is much higher and fuel conscumption with higher speeds could be higher or similar to this 3.0l diesel.

Henning Berntsen this is the 350 version I have the 06 r 500. it has nice amenities and ride is superb. ok now to how horrible this car is. air ride system will fail to a repair tune of 5 grand. the blower motor will continue to run even after you take out key and go thru all 4 fuse sections. yes 4 fuse boxes. the blower motors are horrendous. and the same for pricing and replacement $1500.00. most bulbs are very hard to replace as you have to be a rocket scientist to do so. several sensors in this vehicle so replacing just one is around 500.00. this vehicle is most definitely the biggest lemon with a 65k price tag. several problems with this vehicles huge engine. so far almost 10k in repairs. I highly recommend unless you just love having it in the shop more than enjoying driving it. Mercedes should be ashamed to place this on the market. it belongs in a showroom floor for good concepts but not for sale.

I agree with you. I have a 2008 R320CDI, a year ago I thought it was heading to scrap yard. Nobody could fix it, diagnosing along would cost you a lot of money. So I had to do it myself, and see if I could work it out. Fortunately, I was able sort it out, but I see why a lot of them could be a nightmare. Mine had sunroof drain hose came undone by itself, caused water to run down A pillar, thus corroding electronics underneath driver floor where gateway module is. Also, all the emissions (EGR, DPF, SCR) went bad, so I had to delete everything and got a tune. Next, oil cooler leak, and rack and pinion leak. Not to mention, both rear suspension airbags leaked too. I have two friends with same R320's different year model, experienced the same problem, but they gave up on it and accepted the loss.
