Nice video! My friend has one of these cars (shxt box). I'm amazed Mercedes got away with building such garbage. While his car is beautiful to look at, the reliability is down right terrifying. To me a quality S class Mercedes ended with the w140 and w126.

Hi Clark. Still haven't given up on my 03 CL600. My misfire wasn't coils, VT, plugs or compression... Any other suggestions anyone? 2 misfires on each bank. 4 in total. It seems to be frying VT's (voltage transformer)

I found out that the spark plugs aren't even gapped from the factory. They have to be gapped to 0.8mm or the too large of a gap causes the spark to jump across the coil.

I have a 2007 S600 with a misfire in cylinder 2, 4, 6 10, and I notice that very 2000 miles I have to add 1 quarter of oil can you advice on what I can do this started three months ago.

valve cover gasket leak which will coat your coil packs and cause a misfire. Ask me how I know? 2008 S600

Mr C, how do you feel about silicone dielectric grease on the coil ends that contact the plugs? It's fantastic that a group of caring people can put the Star to shame. They have lost the reason for making fantastic cars, and Clark's people have given the owners a well needed option. Thank you sir !

Personally, I don't like it. Over a relatively short period of time it dries out, attracts dirt and debris and can create a conductive path to ground.

Hello Mr RUPP.My Dad have a C215 with M137 motor. I feel it miss some cylinders but there is no default code like P300 or misfire on others cylinders. The only fault are P 201A and P203D. Previously i had the P2091 from the oil pressure sensor and i remplace it. There is no oil on all the engine box connectors. Is tit possible that the transformer box is defective and that it blocks the ignition misfire dectection??? Thank a lot for your expertise.

No, a faulty voltage transformer cannot block a code. However, depending on the fail mode of the VT it is possible that it cuts in/out with the distribution of power. The VT is sending out 22,000 pulses of energy every second. If there is a break in that energy cycle the engine would shudder but no error would show since the entire car went without power for a millisecond..

@@clarkrupp Hi Clark, the voltage transformer is that item you opened on top centre of the motor? I am looking at buying an S600 Bi Turbo with misfires but apparently not throwing the engine light or codes. I do have my own Star system to check the car out too. Trouble is it is a flight and train trip away just to inspect it myself. The car is priced due to the issue so I might need some parts from you If I diagnose the coil packs as bad

2008 s600. I had misfire code, I got coil packs done... it was running great even with misfires now it feels like I'm hauling a boat maybe timing chain what you think?

Hi Clark, I need my coils rebuilt, 95k miles on the orginals and they are finally going out. Funny thing is, I had just replaced the plugs about 2k miles before they went haywire, it all started when I was doing 145mph and around 5600rpm and boom, the car went into limp mode. I check the transformer as you showed in this video but it appears fine. My only conclusion is the coil packs and possibly the crankshaft position sensor & intercooler temperature sensors. Where do I send my coils too and how much is it per unit. Thanks

Any advice if my 06 s600 only has p0300 code no other codes. P20e7 right bank it says. It no other codes and car seems to run fine

Jr Guzman coil pack starting to go - or plugs starting to fail. Get a stretch of road and floor it from 45 mph .....run it hard towards redline and you’ll probably get a hard code

Clark Rupp thank you for responding, got p0300 and p0303 did spark plugs and no difference; guessing it’s the coil pack starting to go ? Or should I start by changing the control module

If you got a P0303 that's the #3 cylinder - right side coil pack is bad. When voltage transformers go.... they go.

My mercedes 02 s500 keeps throwing code p0302 I already changed the spark plug coil and wire on that particular side and all the remaining spark plugs and I am still having that issue now P0 300 popped up but p0302 is a pain in the butt for this 02 S500 any help would be greatly appreciated thank you

The 600’s / V12 engines are completely different. A leaky fuel injector would do this to you as well…

I had an open injector and some fouled plugs due to my valve cover. I was also told a reason for the misfire could need the boots in the coil pack, low battery voltage and also your fuel filter can hinder your fuel pressure. I have installed fresh plugs, a few boots, and I’m going to replace the fuel filter in the future. I have two fresh coil packs + voltage controller so I’m pretty sure those are not the source of my issues. Misfire 7,6,10,3 plus a bad o2 sensor on the second bank.

how will I know if a coil pack failed or the ignitor failed?

You won't and DAS can't tell either if all 6 cylinders on one side are dead. You can look at the date codes on the packs and transformer. Packs can fail from age regardless of milege and transformers typically need 100K miles of heat soak to fail. Packs can go out between 50 - 100K, The two digits before the "W" are the week of the year the device was manufactured. The last two after the "W" are the year. e.g., 23W07 would mean that product was manufactured the 23rd week of 2007

Sorry can't say for sure - older generation car than 220 chassis. 1999 models are driver side - maybe 4 inches from the side towards steering column and about 8" back from front edge of dash

Cars 95 and below don't have obd2 . This one has obd1 it is one right side under the hood near the ecu's.

Wow I've been having so many issues with my car and only had it for 6 months and every cylinder that you are showing are the same ones that my car is showing also a couple other issues and it runs so bad, I have to push the gas pedal really hard in order to get the car to move forward and it jumps really bad and I think that is something more in the transmission because when it's really cold when it came from first to second the cars jumps but once it gets to normal temperature it runs smooth. it's a beautiful car, but I'm so fed up with it that I don't know what else to do, it's one problem after another can't even enjoy the vehicle, all I'm doing is putting more money into it and also make payments on it. I don't know what else to do about this car because every single time is something different. I already had all the spark plugs replaced and now it's still saying that it's misfiring and are the same numbers that you are showing on your video, and now I have one with the ABS unavailable and something else with the wheel speed sensor. do you have any suggestions, I see your video and it makes sense but also I'm not a mechanic so I'm scared to do a lot of those things especially on a car like this that I'm already having so many issues. where are you located?

@@clarkrupp that's exactly what I have now, somebody's else problem. I fix one thing and something else goes wrong. Everywhere I take the car they charge a lot of money and can't never get a solution. Is a 2010 S600. How can I send my vt to you so you can check it out? to see what's wrong with it, if it is something wrong with it, because all the codes that I'm getting are the same ones you are getting plus some

@@clarkrupp I'll do that as soon as I get the car back from a different shop I took it to because the car is running like is pulling a 18 wheeler, have to push on the gas pedal harder than normal to get it going.

#10 could be an echo off the crankshaft position sensore - i.e., a false positive. The right is definitely ready to be replaced.

@@coolguy93xd not worth it…. The others will fail shortly - end up costing you way more. Pack is done. Mercedes says replace after 60K miles - nobody does though !
