Driven both cars already I don't think a California is even in the same category as the SLS. The finishes of the SLS plus its nav system, radio, etc... are top of the line whereas in the California you have the same stereo as a freaking JEEP CHEROKEE! Performance goes once again to the SLS, engine sound goes again to the SLS, and last but not least it's a Mercedes! Best automaker out there. The 458 is the SLS's competition, and the 458 is way better, but not a fucking California!
Very enjoyable video review! I like the part most when Harry just stops talking and lets us feel how it's like to experience the sound. Nice touch is the starting, that makes you live the experience
The vid is 5 years old but for the record - they fixed the gearbox shifts with a TCU update. Free to any owners. Shifts like a dream. BTW, such a tasty engine bay with the CF covers!
I've finally realised who Harry with those sunglasses reminds me of.... that guy Mr. Smith or whatever he's called, the crazy bad guy agent from Matrix.... yes, I am a bit slow to realise that
i dont think anyone would ever mistake it for a SL (too low, hood is too long, doesnt look like an SL, etc) but if they did, i bet it would attract some buyers who don't want a look at me sign while driving a convertible around town
The whole point of the SLS was to bring back the gullwing doors. Ironically this will probably be better than the coupe and the one to buy. The whole idea kind of backfired.
@jo05dk really? the thing is, i wasn't talking to you.. i read your comment and i know what you are talking about, i was talking to someone that have already thank me for my answer.
the SLS has more stuff than the california so i would take the SLS but the truth is im waiting for the all new SL which will come next year, it has the frond of SLS and rear of the new CLS plus its a hard top roadster and alot cheaper than the SLS even tho it shares the same engine.... talking about the SL63 tho
How about the F12 Berlinetta or the Ferrari FF? Mclaren MP4-12C? All the cars would leave this car behind like it was a snail ;). A good price for this car would be arround like the Ferrari california,
I agree, but not as overpriced as BMW in general. The 5-series, the 3-series and even the 1-series are insanely expensive in Sweden. They never cruise under 50,000$. The 5-series starts at like 60k$ and ends at over 120k$..... Even the 3-series can go up to over 100k$. But yeah Mercedes is decent i suppose, it's great value for money, for example good quailty engines like the bluetec V6, V8's that last for 800,000 Km. AMG models tho are overpriced ;)
I like this car and I like it better than the coupe. The gull-wing doors are cool and all, but are more gimmicky and impractical than anything. As he said though for the same money, I would definitely pick the Ferrari over this. One it is a Ferrari and two the Ferrari's interior is amazing.
@jo05dk ya 30k more than a california is a bet overkill but the california the fake ferrari, its based on a gran cabrio, it's not handmade, its got 110hp less than the merc ,and it kinda looks like a lexus sc430. I'd take the merc over the cali cause it's faster, better looking, and to the common eye it's a merc sl which means that you don't look as much of a showoff when you are driving it.
