This episode is dedicated to the simple tools of classic car restoration. The best way to keep tool costs low is to buy only what you need, when you need it. That way you can afford a better tool each time, and save money for parts and supplies. Some parts for the Mercedes W123 couldn't be found in time, so it's been a tough round of work on this one.

Man I like your style. This is car entertainment in meditative form. I'm *so* fed up with the channels that just speed-talk part numbers from the posh aftermarket catalogues. It doesn't teach me anything useful to know what performance part (that I can't afford) is best for a check-book style build (that I can't afford) that just throws everything away that isn't in mint condition, and replace it with billet this and carbon fiber that. But your stop motion of rust repairs show me *exactly* how to go about it. To us plebs in the wet zones (with salt on the roads in the winter) it is always the corrosion curse that prohibits us from getting our dream cars. One sweet day (or rather, number of years) I'm going to get a Mazda RX-7 FD that everyone thinks too far gone, and I'm going to save it from the crusher. Your work both teaches me and keep the dream alive. Thank you :)

Soup Classic Motoring Hello. I am very impressed with your videos! You are doing a tremendous job! All episodes were shot so that it is simply impossible to distract from watching. Your job of repairing rusted parts of a car’s body from pieces is really cool! This proves that nothing is impossible if a person has a desire and passion. These videos made me return to thoughts of restoring my very rusty car with renewed enthusiasm. Thank you for that! By the way, is it possible to somehow contact you for a consultation? I am also an ordinary guy who wants to restore a car with his own hands. I just would like to get at least general advice about my project, I could send photos of this car. Everyone who saw this car told me that this is impossible, I would like to know your opinion, if possible. Thank you

Someone recommended this channel to me a couple of days ago. some of the things that really appeal to me are the fact that it's not some fancy, shiny workshop full of expensive tools, the fact that the mistakes (I find I do most car jobs at least twice because I've messes something up!), the great, relaxed, casual tone of the narration and the mesmerising stop-motion which is incredibly hypnotic as well as being an excellent way of demonstrating and documenting the process! Awesome! I own a w116 300sd (1979) and I'm currently working on reinstalling the rear flanges back onto the hubs. I have to configure a tool to press the flanges thru the hub openings and get enough of the flange threads to protrude thru the other side so that I can then position the inner bearing then tighten everything else by tightening the grooved nut/castle nut onto the flange threads. The grooved nut/castle nut requires a matching special socket to tighten. I have to tighten the threaded castle nut/grooved nut to the correct tolerances (preload on bearings), without over tightening, or I will have to start all over. Starting all over would require the crush washer/ring to be replaced with a new one. The crush washer cannot be used again if you over tighten the nut (exceeded the correct preload on the bearings) . Dial gauge is absolutely necessary. Your videos allow me to concentrate and have patience. Thanks!

Ok, so I’ve now been back to episode 1 and watched ALL of them over the last 5 days. Great job with the cars but huge kudos for the quality of the videos! I’ve watched so many now I’m speaking with an Irish accent😂

Thanks for the videos mate, they superbly soothing, but also informational. I am also restoring a W123, and these close-up shots are amazing. Best channel on RU-vid - change my mind.

Looking good, George. I have one of those ball joint presses! And a breaker bar. Needed it to use the press to get the joints out, (and the new ones in), a few years ago as they were all loose. Fantastic tools! Hope you receive all your errant bits soon to get it going. I like the Jag in the background there. Always wanted an XJS HE, myself...

I think they should land any day, and I've plenty to do in the meantime. The Jag will come into the foreground soon man, but I've a few things to bring you first ;)
