There's supposed to be a blue sleeve on the fuel filter as well but for some reason new filters dont come with it. The fuel accumulator is used to mainitain fuel poressure when hot, so if it has failed it would result in poor hot starting. It wouldnt affect cold starting.
I enjoyed this. I've just been trying to do the same job on my girl. Started out with a 'quick' change of the fuel filter...12 hours later, blinded by petrol and close to flicking a match at the whole sorry mess I came and watched you having a bash at doing yours. It's good to know that other people have the same struggles. I just wish I could stay so calm as you! These cars are just awesome though and well worth the effort. I hope you've got her on the road now!

@@furiousdriving I finished at 9pm today and she is back on the road, Waiting for my new fuel pump to arrive but at least she's mobile in the meantime just very noisy from the pump. It's on its last legs I'm sure.
Where you located bud? (General area that is), if you're not too far away I wouldn't mind dropping over and giving you a hand to get the old girl running :) I'm not convinced it's a blockage as there wasn't as much fuel coming out that pump as I would have expected.
@@furiousdriving The midlands, but I'm sure I could take a ride out. But BEFORE you do anything, get more fuel into the tank or level the car off as it's struck me all the fuel will be thrown forwards with the car being up on the stands at the back. I have a feeling its a supply problem from the tank. Also, if you can, prime the fuel filter and lift pump to help get the fuel up to the rail. If/when I do take a ride down, I'd suggest we replace ALL he fuel lines to eliminate the existing lines being a problem.
You seem to be ignoring the fuel delivery to the pump. There's a fuel strainer in the tank that might be blocked and that elbow joint is the pressure damper, which also might be faulty.
Is it not possible to bypass the fuel tank and supply system? ive seen mechanics gravity feed fresh fuel from a petrol can on carbureted systems to prove an engine ignites when the fuel tank is compromised with old petrol.

i have similar luck trying to fix my w123. i try to fix something and then end of finding something bigger needs fixing and ive knackered something else!
Wait till you see the next one - no update for 2 weeks as I found EVEN MORE problems with things I thought were sorted, maybe I can get some progress tomorrow...

fuel system does not need to be primed. I would see if fuel is getting through the hard lines to the fuel distributor as a next step if it was my car. See at the about 2min mark in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_0vhImRd-v4.html where he is unscrewing the fuel line. There is normally another filter at this spot too, most people don't know about it.
