I dropped run flat tyres when I had to replace them after 3 years, because I found them to be noisy and insensitive, ie I thought it felt like I had a filter between the tyre and the road. So I went over to regular tyres (Pirelli PZero Nero), which I was very pleased with.
Definitely regular tyres like the Michelin PS4s over RFs. They're more performant, comfortable and more safe. No point to compromise the daily experience just for the one tiny chance to run flat one day, especially when you have roadside assistance.
I prefer non-run flat tires though I don't have room for the spare. Instead of the spare, I have a DEF Tank. I do keep both a can of Fix-A-Flat Slime and 12V Air Compressor. In my opine, the ride on non run flats are superb unlike the run flats that are much rougher. I've had side-wall blow outs on my former Goodyear Eagle Run Flats. In New England, pot holes are part of every day life. Worse in the winter months. In the event I sustain a flat and it can't be field repaired by the can of Slime, I have AAA to bail me out.
I just cleaned my wheels last week, and wondered about those extra holes, now I know! I used about 10 q-tips to clean them out they were Filthy! Good vide
I prefere regular tyres to run flats 1, cost issue 2, availability issue 3, convenience issue (you get a puncture on the bank Holiday and you then have to wait until the store opens to fix it) Regards Brian from England
Good video! keep making them more often and cover the basics more often for the novice folks like me. I have a question. I have a 2018 GLA 250. When I lock the car, I need to use the key. How can I lock the car without using the key? As for other cars, I can push the lock button when I get out of the car before closing the door.
Wait. Thats why my GLC was skipping at speed, no matter how slight the change in road surface on a curve? Why didnt the MB service know that! [rhet] I now have a newer GLC with regular tires. No skipping! Wow!! Run flats for 4 years with that problem!!!!
I agree with all negative comments with regards to run flat tires.... my largest complaint is that you can not patch run flats tires... if you live within a huge metroplotain city, where there is constant construction, you will have nails screws and sharp objects constantly puncturing tires... I have Pirelli scorpion tires currently on my mercedes and for the money, the best!
I’m a new Mercedes-Benz owner and by the way now I know the thrill about this machines I love it!!! But when the time for new tires came around I read about it and the majority of people went with the regular tires than the run flats, also a spare tire and Jack are available for your Benz online, the run flats people said the ride was not comfortable and the tires didn’t last at All!!!
@@MBZMaster just subscribed and great vlogs. Will be good to also talk about how to convert from run-flat back to regular tires ( and converting the truck space to fit a spare when not originally designed with 1 - for GLC) 💪
My Mercedes-Maybach came with Goodyear F1 Asymmetrical 2 SCT RunonFlat as OEM. These are the first run flats I have had on a sedan. The car is quiet...as quite as my two other S-Class sedans. I expected the double pane acoustic glass and better insulation would make the Maybach quieter, but the RunonFlat tires are probably the reason it is not. When it comes time to replace tires, I am getting the same tires my other cars have (Continenetal ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus). I am sure they will improve performance, increase mileage, reduce noise, and make the car quieter...as it should be. Besides, the Contis are less than half the cost and come with a better warranty (complimentary 3-year roadside assistance). The only potential plus I see for the Goodyears is that they are made in Germany. The Contis are made in Portugal (for the front tires) and Romania for the rear tires). I would trust German manufacturing to have better QC than Portugal and Romania.
@@MBZMaster I hear ya, and I would but I am schist out of luck. There is no place to put a spare...not even a donut. If I change to Contis on the Mercedes-Maybach, I will have to keep one of those "Fix-a-Flat" cans in the trunk where a spare should be or depend on Roadside Assistance (either through tire warranty or AAA). At least with the other two S-Classes, I have a donut spare just in case. I technically have a full spare for one car...20" AMG rims...but it stays in the garage. Actually, it is the original rim that came with the car. I hit a pothole (winter so didn't see it as it was filled with blackened snow) that cracked the rim. It was a hairline crack that was originally missed but the rim became useless as tire pressure kept going down necessitating refilling air every 1-2 weeks. Such a small crack could be repaired easily by specialists, but the closest rim specialist was over 6 hours away. I called the dealer to get a replacement rim while I sent the broken one out for repair and got a quote for something like $2500 for a single rim...or was it $4k? Whatever, it was a lot for a single rim, so I ended going eBay and getting one in great condition (not even curb rash) for $900 pulled from another car. I eventually got my cracked rim repaired for $200 so I have that as a spare in the garage in case another rim ever gets damaged.
I prefer the regular spare tire. Having the spare tire in the trunk would add extra security. I hate the run-flat tire because replacing the tire is more complicated. It is not like I call AAA and replace the tire within a short period of time. Unfortunately, when I was buying my car, the salesperson did not mention it and I did not check the trunk.
Depending on the time and location, being immobilized, calling and waiting for AAA is not as secure, as being able to drive home without the stopping. Plus, the spare tire is a temporary anyway, not intended for hard use.
Run flats are more expensive, do not perform to the level of standard tires, require the driver to slow down when punctured, and need replacement when damaged as they cannot be repaired. The only gain is that the driver does not have to change to a spare. To lose the benefits of standard tires for this small benefit seems ludicrous to me.
Run flats have a definite advantage but on my old 2016 328i I felt all of the bumps and cracks in the road. Can I perform a B service at home if I want to save some money?
MB Run-flats are not as rough as BMW's, it's a different Run-Flat tire technology. Of course you can do the service yourself, but FYI, Service B is not just an oil change. I still recommend to have a professional. Maybe not MB dealer, but someone specializing with MB cars. But if you feel confident, you can definitely do it yourself!
As always you are a máster of MB. Thanks for all the hidden secretos. I have a 2018 C43 with run flash. They are not as comfortable as air. In your opinion what is better for MB paint protection ?
I bought a 2006 SLK55 AMG last year 55000km.... original brakes I think, beginning to get a little squealing from the front disks, would you suggest replacement with Metalic or Ceramic pads.
Happy Newyear Your channel awesome Canyou discuss back up camera issues I have 2 ,2015 glk250 my wife bought me so in return I bought her one because we enjoyed the small suv ,wondering if you could do A brief discussion on them I love the run flats but I think the 20in rims are suscetable to
I have a question for you. I have 40k miles on my C300 4Matic, do you think the Brumeister system is covered under warranty, I still have no sound in my audio. I haven't wanted to mess with it myself seeing as it could be a fuse, an amp or something else....
The warranty is 4 years or 50,000 miles - whichever comes first. So, as far as mileage you're Ok, but you have to check the year, or when the car was originally sold. But it's probably as simple as checking fuses.
@@MBZMaster thank you so much. I have had the car 2 1/2 years and it's 5 YEARS old I bought it from a Custom foreign dealer outright it had only 9k miles on it. Its really gorgeous dark blue I customized it. It's the sports edition.
@MBZ Master Do you know which models come with the Burmeister AND sub woofer set up? I specially told the MB dealer that i want the loudest and bassist system they have. Well neither my 2017 nor 2020 GLCs have the sub woofer. But i hear other models do have the subwoofer. I am not a fan of allowing aftermarket techs touch a brand new car that i intend to return the way i got it.
if you hit a pot hole with quality steel belted radials, you will PROBABLY be OK. If you hit one with run flats, very likely you will get a blow out. That being said, with the run flats you don't have to stop & change the tire, and since you don't have a spare (likely) that's a good thing, but you will need to buy new tire and often NOT covered by road hazard warranty. As a 71 year old driver who drives at night often, between the two choices I'd rather not change tires on the NJ Turnpike at midnight. You will go through more tires with run flats, definitely!!!!!
I prefer regular tyres over run flats, even the MOE ones, I changed my OEM 20" run flat rims/tyres for OEM 18" rims and Dunlop MO Sport Maxx RT2 tyres, so much quieter and no nasty bangs when going over potholes.
@@MBZMaster Absolutely, rear 20" 275/30 replaced with 18" 275/40 and front 20" 245/35 replaced with 18" 245/45 which are all virtually identical in circumference.
I prefer run flat tyres. Knowing I will always reach safety and not be left at the side of the road gives complete peace of mind. I've noticed there's a big difference in comfort between different run flat tyre brands. My GLC was supplied by Mercedes with Pirelli summer tyres which I thought were ok. When they were due to be replaced my Mercedes service centre recommended Goodyear intermediate tyres so I listened to their advice. Immediately I noticed how much more comfortable and grippy they are. The Pirelli's are very harsh by comparison. The wear seems also to be be a lot better.
I found run flat tires have a very low mileage value....my set on my S550 was worn beyond safe driving at 17,000 miles. My car does not have a spare due to the original run-flat tires that came on the vehicle....so I opted to use regular Michelin tires and purchase a sealant that can be loaded into the tire for any minor flat...the tire dealer simply removes all the sealant crap when the tire is repaired. The ride and life of the Michelin was and is far superior to the run-flat.
MB has special run-flats that feel like the regular ones, and you don't have to mess with the sealant. I'm going to make a video about it, so stay tuned!
I’m very disappointed with the tires on the GLA Mercedes I don’t have the car two years yet and the tires are worn on the front I wonder am I under guarantee for these tires
The ride quality of run flats is horrible. I will replace them with regular tires and throw a flat repair kit and air inflator in trunk. I also have AAA for auch occasions
I am driving with run flat tyres as no spare to be replaced, to be honest I hate the driving experience with rft from my past BMW and MB now. Still I prefer my past Audi A4 B8 with spare tyres that so there is nothing we can afraid but no other choice beside rft. I love regular tyres on the comfort level and I was just wondering which idiot invented this stupid metal tyres that drive like a crazy horse also which stupid brainless engineers make car without a spare tyres that rely on this metal made round shape things that don’t works at all especially nowadays pot hole is more than asshole.
I prefer regular tires for their smoothness over run-flat tires and you get a spare tire that will go a longer distance. I notice Mercedes-Benz is returning to standard tires on some models.
I have several MB cars and definitely prefer the regular tires over the run-flat tires. The run-flat tires can't be repaired, so one nail and the tire is done. Also, if a tire goes flat on the road, it's better to change the tire so you are back in full service, instead of limping along to find a tire service center.
Great point! But if you change the spare tire - you won't be back in full service, as spare tire isn't designed to be used at full force. Also, if you blow the tires at night or in the middle of nowhere, you can still drive home if your car is equipped with the run-flats. You won't need to stop for a replacement or call AAA.
Regular tyres for me, l carry a compressor in the trunk and no spare, gives me more stowage. I use repair plugs, Mercedes compressor is useless, so is the wheel wrench. I carry a tension wrench (140Nm) and My metric socket (rounded corners) with short extention and long bar. I don't use slime or other sealants because l don't want to compromise my inflation sensors in the tyres, l want to monitor tyre pressures after a plug repair.
Regular, but my Mercedes’ doesn’t come with a spare. It’s a C43 and comes with run flat tires . Convenient but expensive. Also, I feel the run flats contribute to the “rough” feel of the suspension when driving on challenging surfaces, like cobblestone roads, gravel/rock covered roads, potholes, and speed bumps.
I hate run flats and got rid of them even though my car has no spare. I carry a small air pump in case I get a leak so I can put in enough air to get to a garage or home - most flats are caused by relatively slow to moderate leaks rather than catastrophic damage.
Run flat tires are for safety not performance. I had run flats and had a puncture (ran over a nail) drove 20 miles to my guy to fix it. When i got there and looked at my tire, you couldn't tell that it had a nail in it. He patched it and I drove 2 more years on it
Great videos. Yours is the first RU-vid channel to which I have subscribed. Ever. I hated runflats on my BMW 535. Ride was rough and loose and they really hampered performance. I replaced them with P-Zeros, shortly after I bought the car. Overall performance and handling improved drastically. Still, I traded for my CLS400 (w218). It came with the same P-Zeros. Thanks again for all you do, dude.
No to run flats, Changed mine out to regular tires. Ya run flats can get you to the garage on a flat…… but then you need buy a new tire, Use AAA or auto club service also carry a small air pump and patch kit
Run flats are the worst invention ever. Absolute garbage. Terrible ride. Can’t wait for spring to throw them in the trash when I get real tires. Run flat sidewalls are insanely thick to be able to drive on when punctured. (In theory). What a waste of a good car to drive on solid rubber tires.
If you use Mercedes MOE (Extended Mobility), instead of regular Run-Flats - you won't see the difference. Because the sidewall are regular. The run-flat sidewall is hidden inside the tire.
I prefer regulars for the summer, but run-flats for winter. I do not want to be stuck on a mountain, with no cellular service, in the dark, in -20 degrees Celsius.
I have a CLS400 and have had 4 punctures with run flats in the last 3 years. I would definitely change to normal tyres purely from the cost of them. I am enjoying your channel.👍
The only benefit to a run flat is just that. Otherwise, they’re more expensive and noisier than regular tires. As soon as the RF on my Mercedes are spent, I’ll get an emergency tire repair kit and switch to better tires.
@@MBZMaster sure but, if you take care of your tires and don’t drive on them when they’re bald the chances of getting a blow out are minimal. I’ve been driving for 45 years now and have only had one blow out while driving. There were a few instances of finding nails in the tires but I had the mixed before they went flat. How many actual blowouts have you had while driving? Additionally, no tire can protect against sidewall cuts. You can’t drive on RFs is the sidewall is cut.
I'm fortunate not to have many blowouts - only a few. But my wife just had 2 in one month of December, lol! But she managed to drive all the way home both times.
Can we talk about air pressures , im buying a 2017 e class estate with AMG 20" rims , I have OCD regarding psi lol ,, Id love to know what i should be setting the tires to ,,, Al the best to you from the UK .. Roland
There are 2 spots for tire pressure reference - inside the gas flap and in the middle pillar. You should reference to the sticker attached to the middle A-Pillar, because that sticker came with the actual tires installed on your car. I touched a little about it in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZINBuQM-icI.html . Also get a portable tire inflator that I demoed in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZINBuQM-icI.html or here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GQ301csZack.html
Runflats! If you once had a puncture on your way to an important appointment and arrived in time with clean hands you will never go without. I have runflats on all cars as both have mixed tire width.
I have run flats on now and I don't like the reviews on them. I wouldn't have that safe feeling when driving in an isolated area and believe me there's lots of open space in Canada. I am going to have my Mercedes dealer change them over.
