Mercenaries (Xbox One X): 40 Tanks and a Bunker Buster 

Mine too I loved the epic tank battles before I did the taechon reactor tank battle with Chinese , they would already have a defense Outpost there already with 2 MBT there and the NK tanks would be there keep spawning in from 2 bunkers and I would take a tank and just keep fighting lol, or I would steal some tanks nearby and put Russian drivers in them and they just keep fighting lol

Yeah this game was pretty wild. It’s disappointing how few open world games have use environmental destruction like this game has.

Far Cry 2 was reallllllly fun too

I mean, yeah, he deserved it. :P And same, this was one of my favorite games growing up. I liked it better than GTA for the most part since it allowed for pretty much absolute freedom.

@@geoechidna yeah i think the coolest thing about the game is that almost everything is destructible that's also why it has "playground of destruction" in the title

In 2006 it was pretty mind-blowing to play on my PS2. Even the sequel didn't match the awesome feeling of utter destruction.

I’m pretty impressed how how hard you can push this game before it crashes. One of the best console engines of the era.

Haha yeah the physics in this game were jank as hell. But tbh that's why they were so so fun!

Goddamn right I do It's still a lot of fun and in many ways better than a lot of newer games because you essentially have total freedom in how you complete each mission. It allows for a lot of creative approaches in a way that newer games can't (or don't) offer.

At the moment I know of no (legal" way to play Mercenaries on PC, but there are 2 ways to play it on Xbox One: ---If you have a legit copy of the original game on Xbox (which isn't too hard to find these days) you can pop the disc in your Xbox one and your One will allow you to download the "game" onto your hard drive for free. The disc won't be read during actually gameplay, but you still must have the game disc inside to play the game even after you install it. ---The other way is to purchase a copy of the game from the online Xbox Games Store on your machine. It should be 10 to 15 US Dollars, or the equivalent in whatever other currency you use. After you buy it you can simply download and install it on your Xbox One.

@@geoechidna is there any benefit of running the game on xbox one instead of the original xbox? have you tried emulations on pc? i wonder if they are good. i got the game as part of my original xbox collection. one of my favourtie games of all time. would love to play it yet another time.

Yeah it was tricky back then for me too. Going back I thought it was funny how easy this game actually is as an adult.

It did pretty well commercially at the time of release but yeah it’s a forgotten game now. People rarely talk about it. IMO it’s one of the outright best open world games. You can truly play exactly how you want.

This entire GAME was a fun time. I remember this game being totally awesome as a kid, but even 10 years later this game is still da bomb. Awful pun fully intended.

It’s basically GTA meets Battlefield, 3 years before BF had destructible environments. Better in zones to GTA and worse in others but a really great game in its own right.

Yeah I highly recommend it. It’s one of the only games from that era that really lets you try just about anything.

Oh yeah, this kind of blew my mind in 2006. This whole game had some really cool scenarios that you don’t see much in open world games anymore.

"DuClare Chateau" from the original Deus Ex PC game fron 2000. I think Alexander Brandon was the composer for this particular track.

Ehh, that’s the max size of an explosion per vehicle. This was 16 years ago after all.

@@geoechidna im 30 i know but i dont think thats the point xD blow up 30 vehicles in san andreas and tell me time matters xD maybe use a different bomb . Either way it was still an awesome video. I hipe this game gets a re released one day same with the sequel they deserve remasters

I feel you, can’t wait for GTA San Andreas remastered tomorrow myself. This game still looks pretty sharp in 4K on Xbox One X, but yeah a remake would be cool someday.

2 ways: A. Have an original Xbox disc for Mercenaries, insert into Xbox One/Series X, go to Microsoft online store and download the game onto your drive. The system doesn’t actually read data from the disc during gameplay, but you will still need the disc inserted every time you want to play. B. Buy the game from the Microsoft store digitally. It’s like $15 I think.

It’s still imo one of the best open world games out there. Fun and varied missions, emergent gameplay opportunities that let you play however you want, an open world packed with things to do that isn’t too big or to small, awesome music and atmosphere... oh and explosions. Lots of those.

I believe so. You can also buy a copy of the original Xbox version and use that in the Xbox One. If I recall correctly you insert the disc and then you can download the game for free. I think you have to still insert the disc every time that way though, even though it’s on your HDD. Alternatively you could just download it for a small cost.
