From Mercer Island, Washington Mercer Island High School Marching Band performing their musical selection entitled Johnny Q by The Crazy 8’s at the 130th Annual Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade on Tuesday, January 1, 2019.
OK, I don't usually say this because I hate picking. All bands, especially here, are great and put on wonderful performances. However, Mercer Island High School was my personal top favorite band of both Bandfest and the Rose Parade out of all the bands I saw. I think what makes this group special is the great amount of effort they put in to help the band from Puerto Rico gather the necessary funding to make it to the Rose Parade. I love the bond these two groups formed.
Thank you for posting these videos! The night after the parade a bunch of MI band families were gathered around talking and your name came up as the best source to obtain footage of the parade. In case you didn't know, your videos really provide an invaluable service for us and they are thoroughly enjoyed. Big "like" from me! Also, much gratitude for your appreciative comments about our band's support of BEG from Puerto Rico. We really have a great bunch of kids, and I can't say enough about the work our band directors do.
Thank you so much! I try and get the best coverage of all the marching bands at the parade and bandfest. I'm truly appreciative of the band's efforts to help BEG and was amazed at the bonding both groups had when I went to their rehearsal at Rowland High School. Great music, great bunch of kids and awesome staff and Boosters. You all are one fine organization and I look forward to seeing your return to Pasadena in a few short years. @Music213 Thank you so much for this footage! I love being able to keep up with this band, even though I know very few members now. The MI band program is easily one of the best in the country. I say this because it focuses on the important things, the creation of a band family, of experiences and includes everyone it can. Now they've gone and spread that around the world with Puerto Rico. Such an inspiring thing to see from this group :)
Has anyone seen the parade pause that MI did?They played about a 30 second portion of birthday cake by Rihanna and was curious if there was a recording of it.
I heard this on the 2019 Rose Parade and thought this was one of the best bands I heard play today. It's so catchy... I love it!!! What is the name of this song the band is playing?? Many thanks!
@@tynanmcgee8624 I spent many hours yesterday after the parade trying to figure out the name of this song/band with no relief... My husband is a big 80's fan and he didn't know either. Thanks Tynan for providing the name of the song ;) and a lot of relief!
@@olgaaceves5552 Sure thing! I graduated from Mercer Island last year so I wasn't in this parade, but I'm very familiar with this song. We've been playing it for a while, I think we got it from the UW Husky band!
@@tynanmcgee8624 I was at the Rose Bowl and heard the Huskies band play that song at halftime. I was wondering if that was a coincidence. Anyway, thanks for the info, and thank you for your role in giving us this awesome experience- I understand the MI band from 2 years ago was the one that successfully auditioned for this Rose Parade performance.
