i sat looking at the whole setup for like 20 minutes stressing out about taking the mount apart... the service manual didn't say anything about how to do this... but yeah, after watching this video I had the new belt on in like 10 minutes :) thank you so much for posting this :)
Very good video. It made the job easier knowing what to expect. I used a small bottle jack and a 3/4" thick piece of hardwood under the front main bearing area. I put just enough lift on it to take the weight off the engine mount. I had to pry the mount away from the engine to get the spacer out and to replace it. Mine is a 1992 Bayliner and it took a 40.5" belt. The whole job took 15 minutes.
Great video. I've got a 2001 motor and 15395 was the right belt number at any auto parts store. Don't forget to recheck tension after a day or three with the new belt to ensure it's still nice and taut.
Good work man, Made the job way easier. I used a small hydraulic jack and a piece of wood on the lip of the pan. After I put the spacer back in and bolted down the two bolts, I loosened the top engine mount nut and was able to remove the water pump pulley more easily.
The pulley and the mount where 1 mm apart impossible to squeeze the belt, but I followed your recommendation and success! I remove the spacer and jack up the engine loosening bolts from the other side of the mount bracket, I lifted just enough to squeeze the belt between the pulley and the mount. thanks ! I used NAPA 25-7395 v-belt, perfect fit
The marina told me I had to jack up the motor and remove the Engine mounting bolts.???Removing the spacer was excellent and quick. Great way to change the belt.
Break those 4 bolts loose on the pulley and the pulley comes right off, making it easier to get the belt in place. Most Mercruiser engines on boats manufactured after 2000 or so don't need to be scissor jacked, engine should be firmly in place even after that engine mount spacer is removed.
make SURE that you install the spacer block correctly. you can install the block upside down and this will cause the belt to rub on the block and destroy it. the clearance between the block and the belt is very small. the belt will just clear the block when installed the right way.
The belt for this motor is a 15395...they been using the same belt since 1988...15400 probably works but thats not the belt that its supposed to be....just thought I would throw this info out...and the power steering belt is a 15370 to the person that asked
Do you happen to know the length of the drive belt mentioned 15395 and does this one go around the engine main.. water pump.. and alternator.. 3 pulleys total
The Autozone Duralast 15400 (40") worked for the Alternator and from my measurements the 15370 (37") is right for the power steering. $9 each. My Alternator belt was really torn up and slipping big time. Will be curious how my temperatures run now. I was typically 200 degrees (the alternator belt also turns the water pump). Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much for this video! It helped a lot! I ended up needing a 41” V belt and worked like a dream! Only thing I need now is my adjustment bolt for my alternator is stripped. Was able to install with locking vice grips but definitely want to replace, any help on that would be appreciated!
This video was extremely helpful as I successfully replaced the belt with no issues! 🙌🏽. I have a new problem now, looks like I need to replace my alternator and looks like you have the same engine as mine. Do you happen to know what type of alternator I need by chance?
Semplice ed intuitivo. Avevo bisogno un suggerimento per sostituire la cinghia, in quanto avevo un dubbio se smontare i due bulloni come nel video; ora so come devo fare. Grazie. La mia cinghia è 57-69143Q.
Is it necessary for the spacer to be place back on after the belt is installed? I tried for 30 minutes to get the bolts back on to secure it and it wouldnt connect to the other end.
