Good video here. As for myself the first things I usually check is the fuel line, bulb, and check valve, then straight to the fuel pump(s)...an outboard that runs fine up to mid rpm then bogs is almost always being starved of fuel, and fuel pumps are so simple to inspect, and what I often find isnt a tear or hole but just a stretched out diaphragm that cant keep up at speed, that and the godawful tiny filters Mercury used to put pre-carb in the fuel lines that most people have no clue even exist.
Thank you for an informative video. My 75hp '93 Mariner wasn't running good and found a tear in one of the fuel pump diaphragm. Fixed it and it ran awesome 1 trio out. Next trip it does what you show. Changed fuel lines and nothing. Will try the carb diagnostic and see what it shows
Hey Mark! Subscribed to your channel! I had a question have a 125 mercury 2 stroke on my 18 foot searay... the problem im having is when i gun it it hesitates a little and than gets on plane and works fine after that... it takes a lot try to start when its been sitting for some days and won't stay on so i have to keep choking it to start it. Now i got the boat last year and did a compression check all around 150 spark is good new gas tank. Do you have any recommendation on what to do to get rid of this problem with hesitation and starting. Thanks in Advance and Let's go Brandon!!!!
Question. My mercury 2 stroke starts and runs but idles and sputter. Runs amazing wide open. New fuel, plugs. What would you suggest? Seafoam treatment?
Good info! I have a merc 200 efi. It dies in a no wake zone. If I go and squeeze the primer bulb it will start back up and run fine. Any ideas? Thanks much
Hey mark my 40 hp yamaha is hard to start and it sputters and dies after 5-10 tries it starts running then i can give it full throttle and it runs high rpms and almost stays in place its going so slow, then all a sudden it will shoot out like a cannon. Once i get past this point it runs fine until next time i take it out. Any ideas, your time and knowledge would be very much appreciated. Just trying to save some money at a boat mechanic
sounds like you're getting intermittent or weak spark to me, pointing to needing a new ignition coil, when you start it up on muffs, try taking off the spark plug boot on each cylinder, one at a time, if it dies that one is good, if it doesnt die your spark plug is fouled or your ignition coil is faulty on that cylinder and needs replacing
I’ve got a 6hp mercury that loses significant power after about 5 mins of running 75% throttle. The rpm’s appear normal but it just gets slower and slower the longer u run it, forcing me to shut it off and when I let it sit for about 10 mins, the problem is solved but it happens again. I just replaced the prop because it was spinning so I don’t think it could be that, what do you think?
Could be a variety of things, I would need more info to steer you one way or another. If it runs good otherwise and just won't idle I would start with a carb cleaning though
