Also there’s a theory going around that the prologue in Winds will be Illyn Payne’s POV he’ll be with the Lannister army in a battle with the Brotherhood without Banners. In the middle of this battle they’ll be overwhelmed by Nymeria and her great pack and Arya May indeed get to kill Illyn through Nymeria. The attack also has a greater meaning overall, as the prologue of each book usually sets the tone for the entire book. Winds will be mostly about the petty squabbles of men being overtaken by a greater supernatural force (the Others).

the first time I was reading this chapter, I was so confused, like WTF is going on ! Now, it's one fo my favourite Arya's chapters !

Maybe he will... Those sample chapters shouldn't be taken word by word, as the author changes some details in the final version. Example: in the Jon's sample chapter of aDwD, he hangs Janos Slynth, but in the final version, he cuts his head.

Arya was weasel last time she encountered Raff the sweetling, so wouldn’t have mattered much. He may just have got a glimmer of remembrance, especially if his life was flashing before his eyes. But I doubt it, this was just Arya removing another name from her long list of soon to be victims.

I think he never even knew her that well. Technically Raff killed Lommy and never even acknowledged Arya, who was Weasel or Nym at the time. It feels more satisfying to me that he died without even knowing what hit him.

@@Pentagathusosaurus Yes but that's ignoring the context of who Arya is and the environment she's in. She's a very street-smart pseudo-assassin who lives in a culture where the age of consent is way younger than ours. She was always going to try and use seduction to get what she wanted at some point in the story. also I would put her age at at least 11.

@@kuroshthegreat8073 yeah that still doesn't make it any less creepy. And as we see from the older guard "Mercy" (who is probably older than Arya) is still seen as a child. Arya is a very disturbing character now, George originally intended a 5 year time skip at some point but decided it wouldn't work out so now I guess we'll get lots of.extra creepy physco children.

Personally I didn't expect 11 year old Arya to have these scenes but I'm not particularly surprised George would go there, afterall Dany is only 13 at the start of this series and he doesn't shy away from sexualising her. But knowing he might write this and actually reading are two different things, it's still a slightly shocking experience. I really wish he'd manage to work in a time skip somehow.

Yeah, It was super uncomfortable to hear Arya (who is what....12? 13 at this point?) think and speak so frankly about sexuality. Made all the worse by it being read by a grown man. he did a good job but....ick....

Yeah. She's the only virgin in the seven kingdoms. But, in the medieval period the books are based on, it wouldn't be unusual for her to be married at that age.

Ash Scott fair point. I guess it's not so much the age as it is it being Arya. Granted, she was in character. I'm just so used to her being this tomboyish hardass who, at the core of everything, is still very much a young child at heart. Not to mention the dwarf sexually harassing her.

Michael Winsock Yeah, it's not the book-Arya we're used to, but we don't really know how much time has passed. This might not even be the first Arya chapter in the book.

Actually, it would be. In the real middle ages, child marriages were not common, especially with just one partner being a child and another adult, and when they happened, for political necessity, it was customary to wait until the girl is at least 15-16 to consummate the marriage.

Order of events: 1) Jaime encounters the mountain’s men at Harrenhall. 2) He has Bonnifer the good take control of the castle and offers him the mountains men. 3) Bonnifer accepts but refuses Jaimes offer as the mountains men are little more than savages; Jaime sends them back with Red Ronnet Connington whom Jaime had been angry at for his mockery of Brienne. 4) skip ahead to Kevan’s chapter at the end of Dance: In order to fix the Bravos debt situation, Kevan and the council arrange to send Harrys Swyft to Bravos to negotiate with the bankers. 5) Swyft requests more guards for protection; Kevan suggests he employs the mountains men who had recently returned with Red Ronnet (who had been kept as a hostage in case he was in league with Jon Connington.) A lot of well thought out reasoning as to why Raff the Sweetling is in Bravos. Meanwhile in the show characters just teleport around to where they need to be for this or that climactic scene.

Thanks for listening! I couldn't get into the tv series and I've never read the comics, though I've heard good things. I don't wanna rule it out forever, but I wouldn't expect it any time soon :/ However, if enough people expressed interest in that, I'd surely take a crack at it!

But you do understand that he set his fantasy in an imagined medieval England/Scotland, & based it on the War of the Roses, amongst other British conquests etc. So even the TV show (which, granted has nothing to do with the books, (but GGRM did have much input into the 1st 3 seasons), uses actors who use a wide variety of British accents. And being very familiar with the late Roy Doteice’s audiobook versions of Book 1-5 of ASOIAF (where he used variations on his own natural British accent); Hearing someone else read it, can jar… Nothing personal- but I hope this sorts it out for you.

The rape in the books is mostly the characters learning that some soldiers raped and pillaged a town nearby or whatever, not actual rape scenes happening to the named characters being described in detail. The show not only INVENTS rapes that didn't happen in the books, it makes consensual sex scenes from the books a lot more "rapey"
