King Diamond fan from mid 80's to now. I named my Daughter Abigail almost 22 years ago and she recently asked me, Dad, did you name me after a demon baby who ate her way out of her Mother? I said that's not even the weird part Abby, you were born on Kings Birthday. She said how did you guys manage that? and I replied "Fate"

I took Abby to her first King Diamond concert back in Nov 2019. I felt her eyes glaring at me when the coffin was wheeled out with her name on it. She enjoyed the show and I was happy as could be being able to bring her to see a band that has meant so much to me since I was a child.

That something different is an anointing of evil on the music to poison your mind and damn your soul. That evil little pixie will burn in Hell if he doesn’t repent for persecuting Christ. He plays with the occult and Satan as if he will escape the torment to come. He treads where angels fear to tread, except those fallen from grace who await the final torment to come. God is so metal bro you have no idea how far and deep His wrath goes. Satan is only a puppet for the Almighty. Get on the team which is gonna win! Jesus is your ticket to ride.

The real important question you should think hard about is what choice you will make. It’s a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God without Jesus as your Savior! Believe me every knee shall bow and tongue confess that Jesus is Lord. Just don’t be a fool and face Him without humbling yourself in this life and asking for forgiveness! Ultimately it’s your choice...choose wisely.

Merciful fate sounded kinda like old school priest 'stained class' guitar tone. Which is necessary metal. I hear michael sheinkar and uli jon roth guitar influence . Mercyful fate king diamond always had good musicians that makes difference. Although sometimes I don't think they spent much time too perfect all riffs in songs.

@@RuthlessMetalYT not really. Ozzy never sang falsetto. Ian Gillian from Deep Purple was the only one who could pull off a higher pitched singing style with finesse and balanced it with bluesy rugged sounding vocals perfectly and he didn't join Purple until the early 70s. @@hullygullys maybe you're right about Ozzy not having the ability to sing that way but that was all for the best. Ozzy's voice was perfect for Sabbath. With the same old gear, using the same settings. In The Shadows was supposedly a "Reunion" album with pretty close to the original band, and it came out all sounding modern 90's and crap. How did they lose the songwriting, the KILLER guitar lead work, the KILLER rythym, the vibe- sound- and the mojo those other 4 albums had? I know Return Of The Vampire is supposed to be a collection of other versions of songs- demos or whatever, but it's one of the best Mercyful Fate albums to me. Love the cover of the album, looking all Classic and the Night. It really goes along with Nuns Have No Fun EP, Melissa, Don't Break The Oath. I just wished they would put out something like those again, which ain't ever gonna happen again.

@@RuthlessMetalYT Funny thing about that guy calling it “girlie metal” - first time I saw King Diamond, Nile and Behemoth opened. They were badass and I was expecting KD to kind of be more chill after the heaviness of those bands. It was the complete opposite! KD seemed louder and faster than they did because they actually used the mid-high ranges whereas both Nile and Behemoth were all low range. Brutal, sure, but KD was an auditory assault. I got Melissa when it was new, based on the album cover alone. Had never heard of them before. Put it on (cassette!), and I still remember being just mesmerized by Evil. This album honestly scared me, as it was the first album that sounded genuinely satanic to me. I definitely felt like I was doing something wrong by listening to it, which was part of the appeal, of course! This became “my” band that I would listen to alone, nobody else. Like with Iron Maiden I could play it around friends. But not MF, that was my private band.

🤘My band Serpent’s Knight was very fortunate to know King prior to their first US show in Portland 10/20/84. It was supposed to be on the 19th with Slayer but US customs screwed up due to the stage gear/props. We hung out with Slayer and MF at a signing days before and after the show, and our singer-Warrel Dane later toured with King Diamond, maintaining a good friendship. The guys were really nice and I was surprised hearing about how they recorded Mellisa with minimal gear. Seems much of the sound was due to the studio. Our bass player gave King a cross necklace that appeared in later photos. Thanks for making this accurate documentary! The memories return...🖤

Melissa is a classic! My favorite. I'll never forget seeing Mercyful Fate with Motorhead and Exciter in Rochester, NY. We got to meet the band at a local record store before the show. In fact they asked to follow us to the gig. We agreed and they jumped into their rented station wagon and off we went. The band was amazing that night. I can remember people flipping off the band. I'm not sure if it was due to the satanic vibe or what. It was magic in my eyes.

After I listened to that album, I bought all his earlier albums and Merciful Fate albums as well. In 1993 King Diamond was on a local metal radio show in Philadelphia, United States. Merciful Fate had released "In the Shadows" that year. They were taking calls from listeners to talk to him. One of the guys who called in got his grandmother on the phone ... King Diamond said to her- let's have a cup of tea sometime The old woman told him it was her birthday that day and he said happy birthday. I also called in to the show and got through. I was so nervous, but I did manage to say something like, "I really love your music, it means a lot to me" to which King Diamond replied, "Thank you very much" in his Danish accent. I wanted to talk more to him/ask him a question.. but I froze & couldn't get any more words out, so they cut the call off lol

I thought she was going to complain about the lyrics or loudness but instead smiled and said "I like them. I love that singer". I had also bought the Melissa album at about the same time. My friend bought Melissa around the time it came out, based on the album cover alone. I had never heard singing like that and I was not a fan. From then until 1987 the only song I heard with King Diamond on vocals was "No Presents for Christmas," which I kinda liked. But then when I heard the song "Abigail" everything just clicked and I finally got it. Don't Break the Oath is my favorite Mercyful Fate album and Abigail is my favorite King Diamond album. But I love/like all of the material and own all of it. Great doc. Well done. More please.

I remember buying the Mercyful Fate EP when it first came out. Wish I still had the original album. It’s probably quite valuable now. Then bought , Melissa immediately when it dropped, then Don’t Break The Oath. Those albums are pure gold. And still as badass too me now at 55 years old as when I discovered them when I was 16 years old. King Diamond went on to create a brilliant catalogue of his own afterwards. But those first 3 Mercyful Fate albums were pivotal for me personally. And I will always hold them in high esteem. Just as brilliant now as they were then. Fuck. I can’t believe I’m an old man now. Last thing I remember is dropping 2 hits of acid, drinking insane amounts of whiskey, having my way with smokin hot 80’s babes, and rocking out to Mercyful Fate. Where did the time go? Quotes from famous musician and High ranking Church of Satan member and very close friend to Anton LaVey - King Diamond "Satanism is about the Powers of the Unknown. I have had hundreds of strange supernatural experiences with the occult, the other side, the beyond, whatever you want to call it that proves there is a spiritual world that can cross over into our world. Satanism is a life philosophy so within it you can have your own religion, any religion you want. Or take from various religions or your own whatever makes you happy. I have my own beliefs and Religiously Satan on a spiritual level stands for the Powers of Darkness, the Powers of the Unknown which are always all around us at all times. This is the best way to talk about these Spirits and Powers. Not a god or a devil as both of them are christian god's and that has nothing to do with Satanism. Of course there are different types of satanism. And I never wear gold as that is not healthy for you! Must need something bad and use that during ritual then you might be able to get help from these powers I believe are all around us. But that is only if they like you. I do not believe in the two christians beings god or the Devil, I believe in the Powers of the Unknown, Powers of Darkness, The Powers of the Occult what ever name you want to use. . I have done Satanic Rituals and have seen and heard spirits. Some people like to call "Them" God or the Devil or whatever, but I do not believe there is all one good and one all bad power. I believe there are many, many different Spirits and Powers that exist and that they are not good or evil, like humans they have both inside of them and I always treat them with the highest amount of respect and feel that respect returned by Them. It is massive mutual respect. Not Power, but Powers, Big difference. I believe we are one and the same me and these Unknown Forces. You really have to respect them for the incredible power they have. I believe they come to those who they feel can handle it and who will be faithful believers." In the song "Welcome Princess of Hell" you hear me singing to these spirits and powers and they sing back to me. They came to me to let me know they are here for me on my journey and that they are behind me and that they wish me good luck so I see them as my protectors almost like guardian angels. We all live several lives so that our powers/souls can grow in order to reach a higher plane and join with something greater. Our powers live in a human shell several times that will enable us to go on to a new life form a higher plane of being or join one day with a larger greater force. But 99 percent of the population live by the Satanic Philosophy whether they know it or not. As Anton LaVey even told me that Satanism is simply a life philosophy and NOT a religion. Satanism is based on logic and things that are proven which is why it could never be a religion as religion is based on things that cannot be proven. And that’s why I say that these powers of darkness are always welcome in my home. It’s as if the powers of the unknown came and said ‘Hey, we will stay with you and help you.’ That’s what I feel.” When I almost died during surgery I saw my body below as a demon tried to enter my soul and I had to fight him! These things are very real! Personally I do not use electrical lighting at home and on my Satanic Altar or in the studio when I record vocals, only black candles as electrical lighting drives away the spirits and I love having them near me. People who see Satanism from the Christian view point are not treating these powers with respect and that is very dangerous. I once actually summoned a spirit in order to prove they are real to a girl who doubted and Satan came. My wife will not look in our mirror in fear something will come out. In Satanism you are your own God. LaVey felt and I agree that we are all individuals born with different needs and views and so he felt everyone should make up their own mind about what to believe in spiritually if anything at all which is why he left a huge void in the Satanic Bible when it came to spirituality or any kind of religious beliefs and so within the Satanic Philosophy a person can still be a Christian if that fulfills their spiritual needs. Satan also means the Opposite, Inverted, Reversed which is why we wear the Satanic crosses and pentagrams. Satan means the opposite of religion. Satanism is living out your feelings and instincts without feeling it is a sin, enjoy yourself while you are here now while you can and have your own individual beliefs. One thing I consider almost mandatory though is believing there are powers around us. And you can use these powers to help yourself or those you care about. Or throw these powers at people in a negative way. I am not religious at all but you can say I am spiritual due to my experiences and beliefs. The Satanic bible is not really a bible because a bible is for religion so it should be called a book of philosophy instead. Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law. When people see the word ‘Satan’ they see only negative. Satan is not only bad, to me. It represents both sides of everything. I don’t believe in the Christian devil. “Christianity has both God and the devil. I believe there is neither of these two. I believe in the powers of the unknown, which I have experienced many times. I know that rituals work. I don’t do them often because you can easily misuse them. They will get back at you if you don’t respect them. Rituals can channel the forces that surround us all the time but I respect the powers and will not abuse them in any way. The Satanic Bible is 70 percent Philosophy and 30 percent magic. Satan is the power of the universe. Satan to me is the Powers of Darkness, not a man with horns. Some people think Satanism is what the Christian church portrays it to be. If you are as bad and as evil as you can be and you think that’s Satanism then you have become part of the Christian religion. That is Christian Satanism which is not what I am about at all. I know these powers are good because they saved my life many times!

That weekend my aunt Debbie took me to the music millennium in Portland Oregon and I stole the only two merciful Fate tapes in the place. It was Melissa and don't break the oath. I remember playing don't break the oath first because it looked far more evil than Melissa. I'm glad I did, because the opening was absolutely unbelievable and exactly what I had been looking for in a metal band. I have been listening to merciful fate for almost 40 years, and I have probably owned those first two CDs at least dozen different times throughout the course of the years. I still hear little nuances and hidden notes each time I come back to these albums. I cannot believe that more people cannot get past their fears long enough to give good music a chance, because that's what it is... Actually no, it is excellent, top of the line, and I think I will recant my statement regarding more people not being interested in this band because if everyone wanted to listen to merciful Fate I fear what's might happen to the music, as I've seen so many times it becomes jeopardized in return for I hit song hencemore money and fame. 1983 was a good year for land mark metal albums with Mercyful Fate - Melissa, Venom - Black Metal, Metallica - Kill 'em All, Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind, Savage - Loose 'n' Lethal and Trouble's debut. A great time to be a metal teenager.

Still think that Don't break the oath is the best heavy metal album ever recorded. For I became notoriously addicted to it shortly after it was released. It is way better than MF earlier albums. King Diamond continued his chosen legacy to release a few more outstanding records like Fatal Portrait, Abigail, Them and The Spiders lullaby. A fan till my dying day. Saw him live in Bochum/Germany on The Fatal Portrait Tour, amazing Show! I was 16 at that year.

Oh man!! You got to see king Diamond on the fatal portrait tour?!?…amazing!!! Wish I would have here in the U.S. at that time but I was 13 yrs old, hard to get to concert then being so young!! How where the band back then? Love to hear some details!! 🤘💀🤘

@@TheBdomijan well, the King arrived with a private Ford, having everything stuffed in the back, but wearing a super cool Jeans Jacket designed on the back with a Werewolf at a cemetery scene presenting an inverted cross. Foreband Band were Germans called Iron Angels, a thrash Band of the time. Show was amazing, never seen such stage performance. After the Show I got autographs from All Band members on a sticker. Still keep this to this Day!
