Can we all just stop to think about what would happen if Meredith hadn't gone out drinking the night before her first day or if she had gone to a different bar. Derek wouldn't have pursued her like he did and when Addison showed up although he might have been attracted to Meredith he wouldn't have been in love with her. Without the case of him being in love with another woman their marriage could have held out for another year or two but we all know they weren't right for each other. After that Meredith and Derek would have probably gotten together. By the time Alex did the African kids program thingy MerDer wouldn't have been married or maybe they would have just gotten married. Therefore they wouldn't be ready to have kids or rather Meredith wouldn't be as Derek was one of the major contributors in helping with her mental trauma in the earlier seasons. They would not have adopted Zola. They would have much less time together. His death would still have as strong of an impact on her because she would still have loved him just as much. I said all this to make this conclusion: Alcohol is the real hero of GA. Everyone else are just side characters. Side Note: Meredith and Derek would not have been planning their wedding during Izzy's cancer period and so Alex and Izzy would not have taken over the wedding. They probably wouldn't have gotten married and Alex wouldn't have put away his sperm with her eggs. Therefore ALEX AND JO WOULD STILL BE TOGETHER! So good and bad things.
