Totally. Ustad had to tone down to match the lower level of skills. It was embarrassing to watch, especially the tabla player who was out of his depth.

@@avishekroychowdhury347 This is always a problem when classical singers sing Bollywood songs. I felt the same about Parveen Sultana singing Hume Tumse Pyar Kitna vs the Kishore version which was full of emotional richness. Some songs are just best left alone. I would not listen to a Kishore Kumar rendition of Bhavani Dayani (a Bhairavi popularly sung by Parveen Sultana), if there ever was one.

How do you know that nobody could have surpassed Kishore Kumar. Kishore Kumar himself recorded after Lata Mangeshkar so that he could listen to her rendition and try to be better. Kasmen Wade Pyaar Wafa Saab came to Manna Dey when Kishore Kumar refused to sing for Pran and what a rendition given by Manna Dey! Lata Mangeshkar was so moved when she first listened to the song that she cancelled her recordings on that day. Even Kishore Kumar later regretted of refusing the song but commented that Mannada bahoot behatarin gaya. Somebody is comparing Humme Tumse pyar kitna by Parveen Sultana with that of Kishore Kumar forgetting that both the versions are different as the Parveen’s rendition was a classical bandish whereas Kishore Kumar’s version was in popular format. Though Kishore Kumar nailed it perfectly and it was one of his best rendered songs. So it is better not to use superlative for any artist in comparison to others because sometimes the market decides who will get the better compositions to render. If it was Mohd. Rafi in 50s and 60s, it was Kishore Kumar in 70s onwards. But all were greats in their own right and nobody was superior or inferior to each other.

0 seconds ago Tabla artiste is Anubrota Chaterjee son of illustrious Anindo Chaterjee. Actually here Rashid Khan has been missing his saans & off colour (maybe because he was unwell but we didn't know)
