yeah especially because they have been through so much things and I didn't except an ending like this:(

As much as I hated him dying, I feel like they handled it the best way possible all things considered. They knew Patrick had no intention of coming back and so having him just leave indefinitely by going to Washington or joining the army, or some other way where he left town and never came back was basically abandonment or an offscreen death we would hear about after the fact. That scene was painfully powerful and touched on a major issue most people don't talk about (which they have done a lot of over the years) Derek didn't have to die. The accident isn't what killed him. His injuries were completely fixable with proper care but Derek was taken to a facility with no trauma experience so he didn't get proper care. Instead they overlooked a symptom and let it get so bad that it couldn't be fixed. I can't accept that this was their ending either but from a writing standpoint I understand it.

TheCjma88 i think that they thought if Derek joined the army Patrick could come back one day but they want to see Derek gone for good..

He was the one who wanted to leave and he had no intention of coming back. Had they sent him off to war he still would have died or gone permanently missing (he would have to since the actor didn't want to come back) it just would have been off screen.

The way you wrote it still translates to exactly how I'm feeling to this day

I stopped watching too, but a few months ago I watched all episodes...and it was so good! Great acting and storyline. I was so angry, because they killed Derek, but in the end...best decision ever! Watching Meredith being strong and independent...such a wonderful message to all the women! Finding the one love is definitely the best thing to ever happen to you...but you can still survive without it! There's still a chance to find happiness and peace...even after losing the love of your life!
