one of my first thoughts when i was going through simpe was, ‘i wonder if there’s any chance this is what happened to blightgate...’ even if not though, doing this has helped me understand how even playable sims in subhoods may have their files completely mangled. hopefully calipers will see this!

aha, thought so! thank you for letting me know! and yes, i know ‘ok’ in simpe’s terms just means that the sims are linked and have character data, but even then i am not sure these sims are doing okay 😭

haha as soon as i noticed the stray sim-pets in simpe i started wondering if this might have happened to blightgate in some way or another. it definitely helped me understand how sims who i had assumed would be fine/generate normally like the uni sims might get their character files completely mangled. i really wish i had more technical expertise so i could explain why exactly these specific issues have happened, but i hope showing them is... helpful... maybe? 🤣

It's so hard to put into words, so showing definitely helps I think 😂 I've had a lot of practice recently extracting specific sims from a neighborhood file to move them into a different save or cleaning up/deleting sims but there's no easy way to explain the process without doing every tiny step - even though these sims are almost the exact opposite I feel it's still a very similar experience. I also really want to try and see if I can actually get Knut Futa working 100% without rebuilding him completely from the ground up 🤣 Though I'm sure people with much more know-how than me have tried already.

Juskaey dorsal-axe (who released their own clean template of strangetown last year) did try fixing knut’s file however they struggled with the data that gets randomised in game. mostly interests and maybe personality too? no matter what they did or what interests/personality dorsal-axe tried giving, they’d always be randomised. so i know they wrote him off as being irreparable and caution players not to touch him even in clean templates because he’s just too damaged. when developing their clean template they even considered outright delete 2ing knut because of all his problems. honestly though, i’d say it could be worth a try. idk, maybe it’s because i have a weird soft spot for knut. i don’t want him to be unsalvageable 😭

Ohhh you know I think I remember seeing that they had tried. I use Dorsal-axe's Strangetown for the townies 👍 Knut is such an underdog. Poor sim gets killed by Olive, gets all of his data shredded, and even when you can get him working kind of, he's stuck as a baby. Justice for Knut Futa.

Juskaey yes to be dramatic but when i was recording his parts in how corrupt is strangetown anyway i would tear up because i just felt SO SORRY for the guy. when i first found out about his problems a few years back (he got me into corruption!) he was really creepy and scary, but now i just feel bad for him. i want an au hood where knut lives his best life 😭

Also just realised you uploaded this video on the anniversary of the first time I uploaded a Blightgate video (though I wasn't calling it Blightgate back then because that was before I built a story around it, but the first 'Human pet video' I uploaded was on 31st July 2020.) So that was pretty awesome timing kind of like a holiday for cursed Sims hoods.

oh i was wondering what was going on since i got notified for two identical comments, but both disappeared when i tried opening them. then youtube decided to just... not notify me about this comment either. could only find it when i looked for comments i hadn’t responded to on desktop. odd since i’m sure i allow links in the comments (and i would absolutely love to read that article ㅜㅜ). i don’t think it’s exactly what happened to blightgate per se since like you say there genders are randomly mixed, humans became pets rather than pets became humans, and there’s more evidence of character data/files actually merging in blightgate like the sim (was it a dormie?) who somehow merged with sarah crittur. plus it feels like you would know and be able to verify whether you merged hood backups or anything similar but i’m guessing you didn’t do any of that and i’m still leaning towards messed up subhood generation that wasn’t down to anything you may have done. also i remembered a few days ago that something that happened with your hood was that townies/dormies who should have randomised names had the names from the game files (and were human pets) so i checked some of the sims from the messed up SSU and they had randomised names, though this may be due to the fact SSU had generated before i merged the folders while in your case it’s likely things went wonky during subhood/stealth hood generation. almost like if the game had crashed or something (again though, you would know if that happened...). but then you were seeing messed up sims from hoods you hadn’t even added yet like academie le tour (or la fiesta tech? one of the two, if not both...) and bluewater village where even ancestors were human pets?? but yeah all that being said even if this experiment can’t exactly explain what could have happened to blightgate it did help me understand how even sims who i thought would be untouchable (as in, their data’s already set) like playable SSU sims who had already been generated in one iteration of this pleasantview could have their data completely borked, which was something that always got me scratching my head about blightgate lol. one variable may also be that i have empty stealth hoods, so i did not see the effect - if any - having normal ones in would be. honestly i’d imagine the results would be the same: yeeted to the default household, all adult men even the animals, no aspiration, no data aside from what the game can randomise when the sim is initialised (interests and turn ons). actually, that got me thinking... it’s one thing seeing young adult women or elder men behaving and sounding like adult men, but i wonder what that would look like if, say, the ottomas or newson kids all became adult men... it’s just so weird because i did assume the uni sims had been outright deleted; it seemed the more likely explanation. like it never crossed my mind that they would have been exiled to the default household. love how unpredictable corruption is. i know i mention their character files being reminiscent of the most borked dead strangetown sims’ but i forgot to also include how much they reminded me of universal npcs and how they’re all adult men with no aspiration, although i’m pretty sure most of them do have a zodiac sign and/or a personality at least. i mean grim even has a bio. but then... the playable uni sims still maintained their bios too... ANYWAY the point i’m trying to make is that i believe what happened to these sims’ character files was due to data loss/data corruption rather than merging with other sims’ data which is a lot more likely in blightgate. it does seem like adult male = the default when it comes to sims with totally borked character data. sims like melissa and vicki sims, plus teenage sim luc jones and even creon nigmos (despite elder appearance) are all recognised as adult men, and their data’s some of the most borked. literally only knut is out here with absolutely no age data at all but honestly i think if he were just a teeny weeny bit less broken the game would at least recognise him as an adult male, but it would be incredibly difficult to know whether that’s because of corrupted data or if it’s correct since, well, knut _is_ actually an adult man. i hope that all made sense hahaha i try SO HARD to rationalise hood corruption and anytime i think i’ve got it something new and even weirder than before pops up 😭 WHAT that’s so weird especially considering i had planned to release this vid the day before but it was delayed because of the audio problem in the second part. it was fate!! from now on 31st of july has to be the annual day of sims 2 hood corruption. a legend was born that day 🤣

​@@tanicsims2 RU-vid itself seems to automatically delete comments sometimes I've noticed, it might be because the site was considered untrustworthy for some reason or might be unrelated to the link. But yeah the subhood Sims in Blightgate have the game file names for some weird reason, no idea how that happened but it does suggest something probably went wrong during the creation (unless it just reverted to those names later or something.) I added all the subhoods pretty early on I think (also added all the uni subhoods to Blightgate and none of the playable Sims were there D: in any of them,) But I don't remember noticing anything weird for a while and ended up dismissing or not paying attention to some of the signs since it had been a long time since I played before and I just thought 'well it's a custom hood so maybe those Sims don't show up' which is wrong lol. It didn't really hit me until I saw Human Sims in the pet adoption pool. The stealth hoods were definitely broken too though because the Garden Club seems to be missing and they weren't generating the sim bin Sims except for the two Pet households that ended up messed up and mixed with the dormie Sims somehow. So yeah I don't know if that happened later to those households but if it happened while the stealth hoods were generated then that would be a more serious issue since I hadn't added the other subhoods at that point, since the Uni Sims should only be there later. Actually the fact that they have the game file names could suggest that something went wrong with them generating from the game files but I haven't had any issues again like that in any other neighbourhood so I don't think the templates themselves are broken. It's quite possible it crashed at some point and I forgot, but I don't remember it crashing while the hood was created at the time. Oh kids can behave like adults btw and there actually are some in the game already that do. Moni actually made some videos about that with some Bluewater townie children. They also randomly floated a little off the ground and had weird leg animations where their knees wouldn't move: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wiqyiRFOudk.html Oh yeah with Knut he's so broken I guess his age data just got messed up too lol. But yeah the variety of corruption stuff is pretty interesting. I'm pretty interested in game corruption since there's a lot less info on that (compared to hood corruption,) and I've heard some interesting anecdotes like objects behaving like Sims and walking by houses.

Haven't played Sims 2 in like a decade, but I seem to recall the hidden hoods would generate automatically when you made a new world, while the other subhoods you would pick by hand. So if those hidden hoods were made first and failed resulting in their characters being deleted, the later created uni/downtown/bluewater sims could've slotted in character files while casually accepting the unpurged remnants of the deleted sims as their own. At least that's my theory based on what happened to your Pets bin families. At some point it would've run out of corrupt data and started generating new sims normally.

I remember very fondly that this exact thing happened to me years ago and nobody wanted to believe me. 😂 I'm so glad that people know more about corruption these days and know what can happen :D. I was 12 or 13, so that probably didn't help my credibility xD. While I tried to save my hood, I accidentally hit the off button and my PC was shutting down while I was saving the game. I hoped that it would save fast enough but realized it didn't. When I opened the game again I was so happy that I could load the neighborhood again and on the first sight everything seemed normal. Sure, the sims stood there a little bit different when I tried loading a household... but I didn't think much of it. I was just glad that it saved the game xD.. kinda? Anyways. So, the first thing I saw was a dog using the slide. Talking like a human while standing. I didn't think too much of it, because my smol ass thought they were a werewolf and since I've never seen one before, this is smhw what I was thinking xD. Then, everything took a weird turn. I tried making babies but it wasn't working as usual. My couple didn't know each other well and they were all mean af. Then I noticed the different voice. They were both male. Other "pets" passed by. Kids weren't kids either. Everyone was an adult male and they weren't related like before. Nobody could get preggers cuz all of them were guys. It was so weird xD. Probably the worst that happened to 12 y/o me in game. Hahaha.

i think the same thing! the weirdest/borkiest deceased sims in strangetown luc smith, creon nigmos, melissa sims, and vicki sims are all adult males despite their appearances, plus in a few other hoods (especially bluewater village, but there’s lucy mole in desiderata valley too) there are plenty of ancestors who are adult males even when their appearance is of, say, an elder female. it’s also the case for universal npcs too, which especially convinces me that ‘adult male with 0 days left’ is the default when character data has been corrupted, lost, or is otherwise incomplete. i really wish i could find out exactly WHY that is, but it’s definitely been interesting just discovering that this is most likely the case!!

@@tanicsims2 In computer code, a blank slate means all values are zero, so gender is probably a binary code with 0 referring to male and 1 for female. I don't know what to say about age though...

!! you’re right! i am like 99% sure that is how gender is represented in the sims 2; 0 for male, 1 for female. it’s highly likely the borkedness is all due to values being reset to 0. in some cases, the 0 does mean something (i.e. gender being 0 = male) while in others it just represents nothing, which could explain why things like aspiration, personality, skills, etc. are blank. guessing that’s due to how, in the sims 2, gender is treated as binary therefore 0 represents one of two values, but characteristics aren’t binary and so 0 is interpreted to mean nothing. if i were to guess, i imagine 0 when applied to species means humans/normal sims, though off the top of my head i can’t remember the value for age. it would make sense if ‘age: 0’ means ‘adult’. not in the binary sense, but more as a default... nothingness. seems they get reset to default settings - a blank slate, like you say. and that default is just a series of 0s. i’ve been trying to go deeper with studying simantics and how the game works lately, and this is extremely helpful information relevant to an upcoming deep dive into a certain shopping district. thank you! 🤗

@@tanicsims2 Same, it's really odd. It makes me curious about how the calculation formula decides the sign. Like, how the trait points in relation to each other are adding up to a sign. 🤔

@@glanni i think it's because Cancer is the most neutral one among all of personalities (6/3/6/4/6), while other signs have something "unique" (like Aquarius are a lot playful, or Libras are a lot sloppy etc)

I think my answer just got eaten by YT, Sad. (I think it is because I tried linking to a few examples I uploaded on imgur) In essence: what I wonder about is if there's a set of rules between certain bars (like: at least X amount of [Trait A], and Y amount of [Trait B], etc. = [Sign 1]; and X amount of [Trait A] and Z amount of [Trait C] = [Sign 2]), or if there's a mathematical formula that includes all the bars at all times and calculates the sign according to the outcome. (like: (2*A)/(B+C+1)+5/(D-E+2)=X ..I just made this "formula" up and it'd surely look nothing like this) I hope this makes any sense at all.

@@glanni oh okay, I've understood your question now. I think it's more likely to be the first formula, because the signs change when you change at least two of the personality traits (unless you do a 10 neat Sim which will result in Capricorn, Virgo or Scorpio regardless)

Angelic Galaxy i demonstrated how to do this in the first part of this video if you’re more interested in a visual explanation where you can see exactly what i’m doing, but here’s a step by step guide that i hope will be helpful too! this is for adding the clean templates to the game files under my documents (and is also probably only for windows): 1. remove the neighbourhood folder from the files in my documents (ea games/the sims 2 (ultimate collection)/neighborhoods/n0xx). let’s use pleasantview (n001) as an example. so you would take the n001 folder and place it elsewhere, outside of the game folders. you could drag it onto the desktop or just into a different folder for safekeeping - i wouldn’t recommend deleting the folder entirely, just removing it from the game folders. i also suggest renaming the old neighbourhood folder. maybe something like ‘n001 old’ or ‘n001 backup’ 2. place the clean template version of the n001 folder into the neighborhoods folder, where the old neighbourhood used to be. this way there is absolutely no chance of accidental merges ☺️ hope this made sense and could help hahaha

i... i didn’t even know the grim reaper had a dead token 😰 now i really want to investigate but i’m guessing doing that will modify the objects.package file and thus lead to game corruption which i’m not prepared to mess with at the moment BUT i’ve been considering installing the game on my other laptop so i could have this almost quarantined version where i do all the bad things, especially game corrupting vbts!! thanks for the suggestion, i’m really curious now!
