Merle Haggard Dead at 79 

Merle Haggard was country music, in my lifetime. There will never be another country music star to rival Merle, in my book.

It’s a sad day Merle left us but we will always have his music and his sons to keep his music alive Rest In Peace

Meryl Haggard was a complex and complicated person. Great talent but lived his life from adversity to total success. 'He did it his way". What an admirable example of how to handle life and its up and downs and get through it. Simply an amazing man. RIP!!!!!

I am saddened by the fact that many of the country singers of my teen years are almost passing away. Thank God for their songs and for all the people who still loves country music and country singers and who keeps uploading all their songs. God bless your soul, Merle Haggard!

So very sad, my husband and I had the pleasure of working our local Civic Center, taking photos and got to spend sometime with him for three days.. and the year before that we were at a performance given by him and he pointed me out and ask if I was married, I pointed go my husband and said yes!!! later he told me I reminded him of his wife...a year later he remembered me....I've always enjoyed his music....RIP....Sweet Patriot...

I met Merle Haggard in person at Flores country store in Helotes Tx a few years back who I considered the superstar of country music by far !!! I will never forget Merle i have almost all his CD's and felt a great loss on news of his death , tears rolled down my face as I accepted his passing.Good bye Merle may God have a special place for you in all of our hearts.

The music genre we know and love as (country) or whatever you choose to call it, has changed a lot over the fifty years since I first started enjoying it. Along with Rock n Roll the artists who perform Country and Rock... don't inspire the same feelings for me, that they did then. One singer who remained solid for me was the "Hag". True to the hardscrabble roots that inspired his writings in many a hit song, Merle Haggard will be sorely missed by his devoted fans. Not a perfect man, God only made one, Merle was perfect for his time, delivering a style and lyric that will not wear on the senses of country fans of every stripe. We needed him and will miss him, God bless you Hag and rest easy in the arms of the Lord, and thank God for your work. DMC

Another one of the greats gone. Takes me back to the American PX in Berlin, 1970 where I served as a Welsh Guardsman and first encountered country music. Now on my 3rd 12 string Yamaha guitar and still going.

I never got to see Mr. Haggard live, such a sad thing to begin with. I am a deep into the jungle Vietnam veteran. I've listened to him almost everyday since I was 12 or so. I've lived many of songs. Some I don't know how I made it through 'em but living many of his songs has also been someone of my best days. I will never forget him & miss him with a sad ol' heart. Quite a good man he was & is. Cool me a beer down Mister, I don't have long to go....

Very disheartening to hear of Merle's passing today.......music just lost another great artist, performer and legend! Oh how I thank God for Thomas Edison! If it wasn't for recordings, future generations would have no idea or recollection of how great of artists and music we were all so fortunately been to witness and experience during our lifetimes. It's a testament of what true talent once was.......Thanks for changing your Life around Merle! You done great! I am sure that even God is well pleased! I loved that he was never a sellout he was on the side of the underdogs and wasn't afraid to give his opinion. I think he would hate some of these poor excuses that call themselves country these days. He was an American treasure and a California hero
