Im going through a seperation/divorce and just when im about to heal, this song pops in my head today, because our kisses are everything and more😔 im 49 and havent thought about this song since the 90s. Its 2023 now, crazy how we just remember a song from so long ago.
I was on a date back in high school in the 90's and we had just left the movie theater after watching Austin Powers and decided to drive in the woods and park and listen to music. I wanted him to kiss me so bad. This song came on the radio and I got more than a kiss lol. Saw him at our 20th reunion recently and it was so flattering that he remembered the movie we watched and that this song was playing during our quickie in the backseat. We had "fun" during the reunion too 😁😍 I'll always love this song 🤘🎶💃
My girlfriend and I both had our first time together to this song, but then Cotton Eyed Joe came on and all we could do was laugh. This is a great song!!
Wow! No comments in two YEARS? I heard this song in a record shop at the Newberry Mall in Gainesville, FL back in late Aug/early Sept ‘96 while I was in college at the University of Florida. I asked the cashier if she knew the song that was playing over the PA. She told me it was Mouth by Merril Bainbridge. I immediately left the line and bought it. The CD quickly became one of my favorites.
Hey there. Live in the area and stop in that mall from time to time. Don't recall a record store as I imagine it is long gone. Wish Macy's was still there but thats gone too.
@@mikeivey8169 That's so true! Actually owning music that is not dependent on Apple never going bankrupt, like Sears! (Which was in business for well over 100 years, before vanishing overnight (although someone told me there is still one in Orlando? ¯\_(ッ)_/¯ ) It's ALWAYS better owning a physical copy you can hold in your hand, than merely "owning" a copy that could vaporize if Apple ever goes out of business, or they just get out of the music business! I really miss the ubiquity of record stores!
Never stop nothin' whatever near and far and always and everywhere and every way (I couldn't help it, that was another fave of mine in the 90s reminiscent of this!!!
Man, randomly saw this on a list of the highest charting songs of 1997. Haven't heard it in a while. Someone should come up with a radio station that plays lost gems like this.
I remember back in September 1996 waking up in the middle of the night, and hearing this song play on the radio, and I was totally mesmerized by her voice. It still holds up to this day, Merril Bainbridge is wicked fine here, and there's not even any twerking involved. I'm also proud to have the CD in my collection.
This was one of my top favorite songs in the 90's. It brings back such great memories and still gives me that rush it gave back then. A very underrated gem.
@barrydavid6634 yeah, no. She is Australian, and the song entered the Australian ARIA Top 100 chart on 26 March 1995, top 50 on 9 April. It spent 6 weeks at #1 in May-June 1995 and was the #4 hit of the year, 1995 on the ARIA chart, and top local artist hit of the year.
This was my daughter's father's & my song back then. He passed away 2 days before Xmas & tho we've been split up for over 23yrs, this song will forever be in my ❤️. Thank u for that, Merrill!!
I haven't heard this since 1994 or so. I am glad I found it again. A nice track of the time which just about sums up the happy go lucky vibe of the time.
not 1994 the album may have come out in 1994 but it took 2 years for "Mouth" to come out as a major single at le Soleil st that's the way it was when I was living in Michigan
@@barrydavid6634 I think you're right. I was only 13 at the time, but I remember this amazing song getting airtime around 1996. I have a pretty good memory and was stunned when I saw '94, because it seemed too early. :)
@@Side-chat-Lives-Matter I never really care about lyrics personally. I am more into production, and how well rhythms and melodies blend into distinctive patterns and harmonies. The words can be trite as they are here, but if the piece of music has a memorable catchy riff interspersed with a funky beat it more than makes up for a lack of lyrical depth. Other than Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Modest Mouse and a few select others, lyrics in popular music are just filler IMO. It helps fill out the song and give it a thematic identity, but not much else.
Heard this the other day in an 85c while picking up some baked goods and a tea. Gave me a serious flashback to late 96/early 97, reminded me of an amazing lady I dated who whispered those lyrics in my ear.
Wow this was my jam. Jumping on the trampoline with all my girlfriends. Getting tans at the pool we blasted this shit. I had the demo CD I stole from my bigger sister. You made my youth great.
@@docsavage8640 , I was old enough in the 1990's to remember. This song was popular even in 1996, I guess people really liked it! It was really popular from 1994 to 1996.
I don't understand how this video only has 15,000 views! It was a big hit back in the day and reached number 4 in the US charts! Anyway its a great song and I'm so glad I found it on here..
dmulk1 I agree! This is a song that just needs some director to put it on the soundtrack of his quirky movie for it to get a revival and new audience lol
It's because of the song title. I had to type in some lyrics on Google, as 'Mouth' isn't memorable. Emma Bunton has a similar song, where she's prancing around in a feminine dress, waiting for some guy on the road. 'I Waited For You' or 'Where Have You Been?'... or something like that. Dumb song titles 🙄
I was born in 2001 so this is definitely a bit before my time, but still one of my favorites. Simple enough to be catchy but still has a unique melody!
This album is on my top 4 most underrated female albums of the 90s. This, Donna lewis debut, Paula Cole’s debut, and Natalie imbruglias debut albums were all classics. All deserve a lot of recognition because all their styles were so different and stood out.
I had a friend who had this on her ipod playlist. The lyric " kiss my salty lips" kept coming to me tonight and I googled it. Found this song. Same one. It's crazy what the mind reaches back for.
Oh geesh this takes me back to my freshman year of college from 1996-1997. Feels like forever ago. Got lots of play on MTV and radio. 42 years old now.
This have been my soul song since I was 8.5...idk why but couldn't find it until about 8yrs ago bc noone knew this song. My husband and I just celebrated 20 years together and this is our song!! He's one of the very few people that remember this.
I remember my life when this song came out. Before marriage. Before divorce. Before getting financially destroyed for life in the divorce.Simpler times. Much happier times.
Funny story: I remember being in the parking lot of the Wolfchase Galleria in Memphis one Saturday night in 1996 on a church bus with my youth group (I was 15). Our youth pastor had the radio set to a station that he thought was a CCM station. However, I remember very vividly that once we loaded up as a group to go home, this song came on and all of us were singing it and he quickly realized by the lyrics that this was NOT a CCM song hahaha. He turned the station lol. 😂
I remember this song being played nonstop for what felt like months. Other girls on the school bus sang it nonstop. Gosh it was annoying, and I remember it sounding really screechy. Today I remembered its existence again and looked it up. The tune is the same, but it actually sounds really good! But yeah it's been a few decades so stuff changes.
