The gospel, rock and soul singer, renowned as a backup artist for some of the world's leading musical acts, got some long-overdue public awareness from the 2013 documentary "20 Feet From Stardom." Now, years after losing both legs in a car accident, Merry Clayton has made a triumphant return to the recording studio for her new album, "Beautiful Scars." Correspondent Lee Cowan reports.

What a talented and gifted voice. Thanks Merry Clayton for sharing your voice with us. I was only 5 years young, when "Gimme Shelter" was being played on the airways, so some things I don't recall. Seeing "Twenty Feet From Stardom" helped me learn the story and appreciate the song as well. Thank you, Ms. Merry Clayton as well as CBS for allowing us to hear this legends story in her voice.

Thank you for this uplifting account. I've heard the heartbreaking story surrounding the Gimme Shelter recording session, and now this latest setback....and yet she is grateful for every day she has of life...a truly radiant individual! Very inspiring to me, especially as I am to undergo surgery (an amputation of sorts) next week. Thank you for helping me put things in perspective.

I can't stop crying because I thought about her often sense the accident. I wanted to know how she was doing. I just want to say hi and that I love you. I don't have Facebook so I hope you see this! I was blessed to be able to see you live twice. The first time was when I saw Ray Charles at the Boarding House it in SF and you were with me Raylettes . My granny who helped raise me when my daughter left in 1957 was from Georgia and her favorite song was Georgia on my mind. I also saw you with the Stones at Altamonte in 1969. I all ways wonder what happened to Ms. Merry after her accident. There were no info about her well being just that she lost both legs. Now I'm glad she's doing fine and we'll and singing again. Love you Ms. Merry.
