Franky already explained back in water 7. When a ship is too much loved and take well care of for your tripulants, there is a myth where the ship can became alive through Klabautermann(the litlle guy taking care of the ship back in skipea), some kind of spirit or manifestation.

@@AlexSR__ Bro neither did I cried at any of the arcs when I first watched one piece but whenever I go back to rewatch these moments I always tear up and sometimes actually start crying, one piece hits even harder 2nd time

Hey man, if you want to see him cry, then look at the squid game episode 6 reaction of them. Probably the only reaction in which he cries. The comments of the video was also "Just came here to make sure he was human" and stuff. It was such a memorable reaction.

This is how you perfectly execute the friendship trope in fictional writing 😁 A moment like this does not really have to be grounded by science and reality. Just this magical moment is very poetic and beautiful, a concept that I lack seeing in a lot of modern anime/manga!

the shounen troupe of an old (maybe lost) friend come back and appear to help main character is very well know, but in Merry case, any 1st time reader/watcher would not expect like at all That make Going Merry appear in the end of Ennies Lobby that good

There were some hints and I think she talked before I believe but nobody I know/seen got the hint or saw it coming. Oda brilliantly caught us all off-guard, wonder if he got the idea from The Event Horizon, probably not he just thinks differently. Usopp was the original shipwright so it makes sense he heard/understood her first. I think the worlds oceans rose a little bit from all the tears (of joy and wonder) people have cried for this episode alone. :)
