1st visit to Southport which is terminus for Merseyrails Northern Line and Northern services via the Manchester to Southport Line via Wigan Wallgate

Southport opened as Southport Chapel Street in August 1851 although 3 years before in July 1848 the former Liverpool, Crosby and Southport Railway opened another station nearby Eastbank Street which only lasted 3 years until Chapel Street opened.
A dispute took place when LC & SR refused to allow the Manchester and Southport Railway to serve at Chapel Street and it was around there same time the East Lancashire Railway opened another station next door as Southport London Street which opened in 1855 and closed only 2 years later.
In 1882 the West Lancashire Railway opened a line from Southport Derby Road which became Southport Central however closed to passengers in 1901 and then closing for good in 1973.
The former line to Preston closed in 1964
Today Platform 1 is rarely used whilst Platforms 2 and 3 are used Merseyrail provide services 1 every 15 minutes to and from Hunts Cross via Liverpool Central which at the time of filming the Class 777s built by Stadler were close to completing their full takeover of the Class 507s and 508s with the latter withdrawn in Late 2023 whilst the Class 507s which were only 9 left in service were in their last weeks of operation before their retirement after 46 years of service
The present fleet are maintained at Kirkdale TMD on the line towards Ormskirk and Headbolt Lane whilst Birkenhead North TMD on the Wirral Lines will still be maintained for Stabling.
Platform 3 can be occasionally used by Northern services although mainly their use Platforms 4, 5 and 6 mainly for services via Wigan Wallgate along the Manchester to Southport Line with services to Manchester Oxford Road and Stalybridge with latter being via Manchester Victoria.
Class 150s and 156 Sprinters mainly use the platforms although their days in service are numbered and are due to be replaced from 2030 onwards with new BEMUs (Battery Electric Multiple Unit) according to Northern
The Class 769s can be known as the 769 Flexs are modified Class 319s although their future long term remains uncertain.
